Chapter 215: Carter’s Disappointment
The impact made Vivien cry. Her face turned red as sweat trickled down her face. Lilian’s widened in horror after witnessing what happened.

“Vivien!” Lilian hurriedly went to support Vivien from falling to the floor, pushing Julia away from her daughter–in–law.
“Are you okay? Where does it hurt?” she worriedly asked while observing Vivien’s painful expression.
“It hurts! My stomach hurts, mom!” Vivien complained. Lilian glared at Julia angrily and shouted, “You stinky girl! What have you done to her?! If anything happens to Vivien, you will pay for it!” Julia turned her attention to Vivien’s belly and frowned. She barely did anything and just took revenge on behalf of Maddie.
For Julia, such a ruthless person like Vivien wasn’t worthy of being a mother. She was afraid that Vivien’s child would be the same as her. Julia thought that what she did was save the child from a horrible future.
“Don’t be afraid. I’ll take you to the hospital.” Lilian made sure to glare at Julia indifferently along
the way.
A few minutes later, they finally arrived at the nearest hospital. Lilian assisted Vivien in the emergency room, and a doctor attended to her.
Not long after, Carter arrived with a worried face. Lilian immediately greeted him in the lobby.
“Carter! You’re here. Vivien is in the emergency room right now. She’s in pain right now. If anything happens, I will call the police to arrest Julia!”
Carter furrowed his brows with what she said. “What exactly happened?”
“That bitch! She must have gone insane because of hatred in love. She dared harm Vivien openly! Julia probably wouldn’t care even if Vivien died there!”
Just as Lilian finished explaining, the door of the emergency room opened.
‘How come it happened so fast? Didn’t they just send Vivien inside?‘ Horrified thoughts filled their minds as seconds passed by. The next thing they knew, Vivien casually walked out of the emergency room.
Lilian and Carter were shocked at what they saw.
“Are
you okay?” Lilian and Carter observed Vivien’s body and movements. But the doctor spoke first before Vivien could think of what to reply.
“Nothing’s wrong with her,” he began, pointing at Vivien. “From now on, don’t pretend to be sick and cause trouble in the hospital!” The doctor faced Carter and Lilian, who looked dumbfounded.
“One thing’s for sure, there’s something wrong with her brain. She even tried to bribe me with money to pretend she was sick. Who do you think I am?!” the doctor said with an irritated tone. After speaking, he immediately walked away.
Silence filled the lobby aside from the noise coming from other people busy with their businesses.
The two looked at Vivien strangely, unable to utter a word. Vivien kept her head down in shame.
Vivien was confused; she was sure she was in extreme pain, but it all stopped after being sent to the emergency room.

She knew that Carter and Lilian were waiting outside, worried about her condition. But she wouldn’t dare go out and tell them she wasn’t in any pain anymore. That way, they would think that she was faking.
Vivien had no other choice but to bribe the doctor. She planned to make Carter and his mom. despise Julia. However, the doctor just scolded her. Instead of convincing him to pretend for her. she received harsh words. The doctor told Vivien she had bad morals and wasted his time on other patients.
Thinking about what happened made Vivien’s head hurt. Now, she had to think of a way to convince them she wasn’t faking it.
“Vivien, you–” Lilian began. Vivien pursed her lips tightly, panicking inwardly.
When Vivien noticed Carter sighed and turned to leave, she hurriedly chased him.
“Carter!” Vivien grabbed his arm, and Carter stared at her intently. He looked disappointed that he didn’t bother uttering a word. After a pause, Carter ruthlessly withdrew his arm from Vivien and left without looking back.
Tears began rolling down her face as she watched Carter walk away.
‘This is Julia’s fault! This is all her fault!‘ she kept repeating in her head.
“You’re not pretending, are you?” Lilian walked closer to Vivien. Seeing how pitiful Vivien looked, he eyes widened, and went next to her.
“I didn’t… Mom, please believe me. It hurts, but it suddenly stopped when I entered the emergency room!” She clutched on the hem of Lilian’s shirt. “Mom, Carter doesn’t believe me anymore. I could no longer take it if you don’t believe me. I can only live in shame.” She bawled her eyes out, making Lilian feel assured that Vivien wasn’t pretending.
“I believe you. But the doctor said you tried to give him money?”
Vivien nodded honestly. “I was panicking! I feared that if I came out fine, you would misunderstand and think I faked it. You would think that Julia was right…” She wiped her tears but continued crying, desperately wanting Lilian to believe her.
“I regretted it, mom. I just didn’t know what to do. I was wrong, Mom!”
Lilian hugged Vivien, rubbing her back to soothe her. “Hey, it’s okay.” Lilian sighed and gently patted her daughter–in–law’s back.
“I understand. Don’t cry now. I know you care about our feelings. That’s why you had to do it.” Hearing that Lilian believed her, Vivien slowly calmed down. She sighed in relief before looking at Lilian.
“But Carter…” Lilian wiped her tears. “Don’t worry, I’ll explain it to him.”
Vivien smiled and hugged Lilian. “Thank you, mom. You’re so kind to me.”
“Child, no need to say such things to me. You treat me as your mother, so of course I am treating
you
like my daughter,” Lilian said, smiling. Unlike Julia, who was ungrateful and vicious, she was satisfied with having Vivien as her daughter–in–law.
Meanwhile, Julia and Maddie went to a drugstore to buy healthcare products.
While choosing which products to buy, Julia received a call from Nathan.
“Miss, everything at the hospital had been settled. I guarantee that Vivien Smith won’t be able to get away with it.”
Julia nodded while looking through the shelves. “Okay, thank you for your hard work.”

She tilted her head and hummed. “Alright, I won’t say such things next time. Anyway, I’m busy, so I’ll hang up first.”
She didn’t wait for Nathan to respond and ended the call immediately.
Maddie was waiting outside the store. Julia lied that she wanted to buy eye drops and couldn’t let Maddie wait that long. However, it’s been a while since Julia went inside, and it was only a matter before Maddie decided to come inside.
Julia couldn’t afford to let her secret be exposed, so she tried to hurry.
After putting medicine and milk powder for pregnant women in her basket, she went to the counter to pay. However, just as she was about to swipe her card, Julia suddenly heard Maddie’s voice behind her.
