Chapter 190: Familiar Man
“I, no. Nevermind.” Julia hesitated to open up. She walked toward the bench a few meters away, feeling some relief from her sudden discomfort.
“Would you like some help sitting down?” The man’s voice was courteous, and Julia sensed his genuine concern. She decided not to decline his offer.
The man refilled her cup with hot water as she settled onto the bench. Julia lifted her gaze to meet his, a word of gratitude forming on her lips. “Thank you.”
His kindness caught her attention: He was not striking at first glance, yet he had an indescribable allure., maybe because he seemed like a good person. His lashes were longer than hers, framing his eyes like a curtain, lending him an air of mystery. It was as if there were stories hidden within those eyes. Looking at him stirred an odd sense of familiarity deep within her.
“Feeling better now?” His inquiry broke her reverie.
Julia rubbed her stomach, the discomfort still lingering butt less intense than before. “Much better, thank you.”
“You’re welcome. If you’re still experiencing any discomfort, don’t hesitate to call a doctor.” “Sure thing.” She had just finished responding when someone called out from nearby.
“Randel! What are you doing here? Let’s get going.” The approaching man who addressed Randel noticed Julia resting on the bench.
“Hey, Randel, you sly dog! Did you ditch me to flirt with a girl? But what a looker!” The man, Gary, playfully elbowed Randel.
Randel rolled his eyes at Gary. “Cut the nonsense. We don’t know each other. I was just passing by and noticed she wasn’t well. So I stopped to check on her.”
Gary’s attention shifted back to Julia. “Oh, my bad. Thought you were friends.”
“No worries. It’s fine,” Julia responded nonchalantly.
While the exchange continued, Julia couldn’t help but fixate on Randel’s back. It nagged at her memory. ‘Where have I seen him before?‘
“Miss, if you really don’t have anything else to do, we’ll take off?” Randel couldn’t quite explain why, but he found himself meddling in this girl’s affairs, even though he wasn’t typically nosy.
“Just dealing with a stomachache. It’s been a while, and I’m okay,” Julia responded aloud, while internally she muttered, recognizing her discomfort wasn’t merely a stomachache–her abdomen. held more intricate issues.
She resolved to conduct a thorough self–check and ensure no underlying problems. Her mind. drifted to her missed menstrual cycle this month; her period hadn’t arrived.
Just as Julia was lost in her thoughts, Gary’s boisterous voice broke through, yanking her attention back to the present. “Let’s roll. I’ll tag along for your asthma checkup. It’s been ages, and I’m starving.” Gary slung an arm around Randel’s neck and guided them toward the hospital exit. Julia’s gaze remained fixed on Randel’s departing form. Why did he seem so familiar?”
An elusive sense of sadness settled over her. She felt an odd urge to remember, Normally, if faced with such a situation and failing to recollect, she’d let it go. However, this time, an elusive sense of sadness settled over her, as if there was something crucial she shouldn’t forget
Despite her efforts, her mind remained frustratingly blank.
Chapter 190: Familiar Man
A sudden deep voice cut through her thoughts. “What are you staring at?” The deep voice jolted her back to her senses. It was Jared.
Before she could respond to the newcomer, he followed her gaze, his eyes locking onto Randel’s “You found him handsome, do you?” Jared asked casually.
“Not conventionally striking, but there’s something about him,” Julia admitted without a second thought, her curiosity piqued. She was drawn to the way he carried himself.
Especially his eyes–their depth intrigued her.
Jared observed her intently. He seemed to detect her unguarded honesty. “Really?” he probed, arching a brow.
“Yeah, but you’ve got your charm too. A different kind of handsome–distinctive and magnetic,” Julia reassured him with a playful grin.
His lips curled into a satisfied smile. Julia flattering him always made his heart flutter.
Just then, Joseph approached them. “Sir,” he nodded, addressing Jared before glancing at Julia with a puzzled expression.
Jared gestured for him to proceed.
Joseph’s expression grew more puzzled, and he hesitated before continuing, “It’s about the Watsons.”
Julia’s ears perked up upon hearing his words, sensing the gravity of the matter.
Meanwhile, Jared’s gaze remained calm. “Tell me.”
Joseph s frown deepened. “Since you ordered the restoration of the burnt mansion of the Watsons, we’ve had guards posted. Last night, someone broke in.”
“Who?” Julia asked urgently.
As the words left her mouth, Jared and Joseph exchanged glances, their attention now on her.
Realizing her slip, Julia quickly devised an excuse. “Just curious, that’s all.”
She was about to leave to give them privacy when Jared held her wrist tightly. “Stay.”
Julia faced him, her eyebrows knitting in question.
Joseph cleared his throat. “It involves your family.”
Julia’s heart raced. “What happened?”
“Ever since we started guarding the mansion. Then someone broke in last night,” Joseph repeated.
“Who was it?!” Julia‘ s anxiety spilled into her words.
Jared leaned in, his voice calm but intense. “Who’s behind this?”
“I couldn’t make out the intruder. They were skilled; by the time the guards arrived, they had vanished.”
“How about the surveillance cameras?” Jared inquired.
“It was turned off. However, someone managed to capture a photo as they got away. “Joseph fished his phone from his pocket and handed it to Jared.
Julia watched from the sides. The image of the figure fading into the night shrouded in dim lighting was familiar. She racked her brain to remember the figure. And as she stared closely, something clicked in her mind.
