Chapter 15: Embracing
There was a moment of silence before Julia replied honestly, “Yes.”
“What’s going on? I can’t believe Carter apologized to me!” He exclaimed and glanced at the man, Carter, with uptightness, almost like he did not want to look at him.
He could not fathom the thought that Julia could make the CEO of the impressive Ross Group apologize,
“There’s a long story behind that, Conrad. I was just lucky after helping someone, so…” She halted, not knowing the following words to say to her brother.
Thankfully, their topic shifted to another, and they chatted about another thing before they finally decided to hang up the phone.
Julia stood by the window and glanced out.
It had been days since she stayed at that villa. At that time, Jared and Shiloh were out, so she could freely roam around and investigate the situation.
She was planning that in mind, but unexpectedly, an unexpected guest arrived at the villa as soon as she came out of her room.
“Is she the one who married Jared?” The girl in an expensive dress from a well–known brand looked warily at Julia.
“Yes, Miss Yang,” the maid replied.
‘Miss Yang?‘ She thought. It was as if she had heard that title before. It was familiar to her.
“Who are you?” Julia asked deliberately.
In Julia’s mind, she knew that she had already investigated things about Jared. However, of course, that was for the sake of her goals.
She remembered running through a confident Miss Yang while reading facts about the man. Her name was Cameron Yang, and she was the adopted daughter of Jared’s mother. She was considered the childhood sweetheart of Jared.
Cameron walked up to Julia, lightly lifting her chin with a towering appearance.
“I am Cameron and Jared and I were childhood sweethearts. I like him, and he also likes me. And do you know what? I waited for Naomi to break her promise, but you came and intervened.”
Upon hearing this, Julia suddenly understood the situation.
“I knew it,” she murmured and continued, “I’ve been wrecking my head thinking why Jared, who is highly attractive, is rumored to be a hideous man. It turns out that you
intentionally spread rumors against him to push the Scott Family away.”
“I didn’t expect you to be a smart person,” Cameron didn’t expect Julia to associate this with her. “Well, as expected, if you weren’t so smart, there’s no way you’d be able to use Shiloh and my Jared to get married.”
“You flattered me,” Julia muttered with a flat smile. “Don’t worry. You’re not so stupid either.” Her gaze fell on the orange on the table. She picked it up and peeled it off.
The taste of this variety of oranges was quite good.
Cameron did not like how Julia was acting. Her face contorted as she observed how dismissive the woman was and because of the words she spouted.
After slowing down, she looked at the bodyguard next to her. The bodyguard understood and placed the black suitcase in front of Julia.
“I’m offering you two hundred thousand dollars. Take it and leave Jared alone,” Cameron declared as she stood aside while looking at Julia with a commanding gaze. She was looking down at her.
Julia’s gaze lightly swept over the box, sneering in her heart, ‘Two hundred thousand dollars?‘ It was not enough for her to buy two clothes.
“You’d better take it back; I don’t need it.”
‘Not enough?‘ Cameron thought and asked the bodyguard to bring another suitcase over again.
“Four hundred thousand dollars is enough for you to spend a long time.”
However, Julia continued to eat her oranges as if she hadn’t heard her.
Julia’s attitude angered Cameron, and she said, “I’m telling you, don’t go too far demanding money and leave today! What can you even do to cure Shiloh’s legs? Your lies just blind Jared, but everyone can see it! You’re just messing with us. Don’t overestimate yourself.”
“Aren’t you done? If you’re not tired of babbling, then I am. I’m tired of listening,” Julia harshly said in her ear and frowned. She went there with a goal not to mess with some childhood sweetheart.
“Don’t be ignorant!” Cameron shouted.
At that moment, the maid ran over and informed, “Miss Yang, Mr. Brooks is back.”
“Jared is back?” Cameron looked towards the door and heard footsteps nearing. It seemed like he was near the door already.
A flash of spiritual light brought forth a plan in her heart. Cameron raised her hand and slapped herself in the face. Then she pretended to fall. After that, she was on the ground, looking like a victim while eyeing Jared, who had just entered.
“You, you hit me?” Cameron pointed at Julia with tears in her eyes.
Julia calmly ate the orange and thought Cameron and Vivien were like each other. If she were honest, she suspected that they were sisters.
Of course, this was not the time to complain about this. Based on her understanding of Jared, although not as blind as Carter, Cameron was like his sister already; the two of them were childhood sweethearts. So she could not be so passive.
Wasn’t the woman just pretending to be pitiful? If she were who she was before, Julia would not be able to do it, but now, she acted without any pressure.
Just as Julia was about to pretend to be miserable, she suddenly felt her stomach hurt immensely.
“Ah–ouch-” Julia squatted from the sofa, covering her stomach.
Damn it! How could she have overlooked this matter?
That body was suffering from severe stomach disease. She just ate so many cold oranges, which must have stimulated it to cause gastritis.
As Jared lifted Cameron, he saw Julia kneeling on the ground in distress while holding her stomach. At that time, without even thinking about it, he released his hand that was supporting Cameron and rushed to Julia’s side immediately.
Cameron was so angry! Jared ignored her for the sake of other women!
“What’s wrong?” Jared asked with concern.
Julia wanted to scold herself badly. How could she eat all that and forget her current body’s condition?
“I’m fine. It’s okay.”
‘It’s okay?‘ Jared raised his eyebrows and darted at Julia’s face.
The girl’s face was pale, her lips were colorless, and large beads of sweat were on her forehead.
‘Does this look okay to her?‘ He thought in mind.
Suddenly, Jared thought of something and veered to look at Cameron.
“Is she behind this?”
“No! Oh my god, Jared! You just wronged me-” Jared interrupted Cameron before she could finish her words.
“I’m not asking you.”
When Cameron saw his seriousness, she dared not say anything anymore.
Julia glanced at Cameron. Just earlier, she was thinking of pretending to look pitiful to counter the woman’s lies, but thinking of it if she acted, she would be discovered later on, which was not good. So she felt that it was better, to be honest.
“No, Jared. It’s because of me. I’m not feeling well myself,” she answered and squinted her eyes.
‘Feeling uncomfortable? What a coincidence! Will he believe it?‘
“Can you still get up?”
“Yes,” Julia gritted her teeth and tried to stand up while holding onto the sofa, but reluctantly, the pain caused her to feel dizzy and shaky.
Her waist suddenly tightened as she was about to fall to the ground.
