Chapter 92 How Could Markt Not Be in
Chapter 92: How Could Mark Not Be Interested In Letting Her Go?
“Yes, Jennifer, there’s no need to be overly considerate to the two of them. To be frank, I’m eagerly awaiting the day that wretched woman exits the Smith family, so why bother trying to persuade her?”
Rebecca, unaware of the subtle implications in Jason’s words, responded by vetoing Jennifer’s idea.
Jennifer’s internal frustration grew. She recognized that her plan had once again fallen flat, and reluctantly conceded, “Very well, then.”
Inside the hospital room, Rebecca’s gaze rested on her son, who has lost so much color as he lie on the hospital bed unconscious, concern etched across her features.
Despite her lack of a close bond with her son compared to other mother–son relationships, he had still come from her own womb, invoking a sense of sorrow at her child’s pitiful sight.
“Such a good boy, how did you end up in such an accident?”
“Drunk driving.”
Jason’s succinct response held no unnecessary words. As for why Mae had brought him to the hospital, he figured that Mark would have to wake up to discover that himself.
Recalling Mark’s dispirited state in the bar and Mae’s determination and indifference when he left, Jason suddenly felt a twinge of pity for Mark.
However, upon further reflection, he came to the realization that Mark deserved his current fate.
“What do you mean drunk driving? Where’s his driver?” Rebecca exclaimed.
“Mark drove off without the driver,” Jason answered with a touch of helplessness.
Suddenly, a stir emanated from the hospital bed.
“Mae…”
“Mae!”
Amid panicked cries, Mark abruptly sat up from the hospital bed, the movement causing pain as his surgical wound was violently torn. It hurt so much that Mark couldn’t help but sharply suck in a
breath of cool air.
“Mark, how are you feeling?”
“Good heavens, Mark, you are scaring Mommy to death. Are you experiencing any discomfort?”
Rebecca and Jennifer’s voices, charged with concern, reached Mark’s ears, which made him furrow his brows out of confusion. His vision, hazy at first, gradually cleared as he looked around, seemingly searching for something.
However, the one he sought didn’t seem to be present, casting a shadow over his eyes.
“Mark, how are you? Please don’t scare Mommy like this.” Rebecca scolded in a reproachful tone.
“Mark..”
Mark’s brows furrowed further, a little disturbed by the noise. He responded coldly, “I’m fine.”

Suppressing the turmoil and disappointment in his eyes, Mark gazed at Rebecca and inquired, “Why are you both here?”
Where was Mae? Had she left?
Or had her presence merely been a figment of his imagination, and she hadn’t been here at all?
“Jason called me and informed me about your accident. It worried Mommy greatly,” Rebecca replied, her gaze fixed on the blood–stained wound on Mark’s forehead.
Frustration colored her tone as she added, “Why did you drive yourself? Why leave the driver behind? You’re lucky you’re fine, but what if something happened? How could you put your own mother through that?”
Rebecca’s reproach transitioned into a reminder. “Jennifer was deeply worried about you when she heard that you had a car accident. She’s pregnant, and your actions can’t overly distress her. Do not think of your own sake but for the sake of your unborn child in Jennifer’s womb.”
When Jason heard Rebecca’s words, his slightly lowered eyes met Mark’s, a glint of depth in his
gaze.
Why did Rebecca’s words sound so strange?
To those who didn’t know, it might seem like Jennifer was carrying Mark’s child.
Could it be that Rebecca unintentionally revealed this, or was she purposefully weaving ambiguity?
Fortunately, Mae wasn’t present at that moment; otherwise, she would have been appalled by Rebecca’s words and would likely condemn Mark to a harsh verdict.
“I’m okay, you guys can head back.”
Mark’s furrowed brows remained tight, and he didn’t pay attention to Rebecca’s mention of Jennifer.
Jennifer’s expectant gaze clouded as she witnessed Mark’s cold response, a stark contrast to the warmth she had hoped for.
“What’s gotten into you? We came all the way here out of worry for you, and you’re just kicking us out like this?”
Rebecca’s dissatisfaction colored her tone, especially when she noticed the palpable disappointment in Jennifer’s eyes. She added a touch of reproach to her words.
“Jennifer came over, pregnant, in the middle of the night to see you, and you’re not even giving her a
moment to rest. You…”
“Please leave.”
Mark’s impatience cut through Rebecca’s voice, his eyes betraying his current annoyance.
Rebecca was taken aback by her son’s demeanor, and her words caught in her throat. She refrained from saying anything more, but a sardonic expression lingered on her face.
Observing this, Jennifer recognized that attempting to stay any longer would only irritate Mark further. So, before Rebecca could continue, she intervened, advising, ‘Auntie, Mark has just woken up. He’s still feeling a bit off. It might be best if we leave him to rest.”
Rebecca, though reluctant, understood that Mark’s welcome had run its course. She had no choice but to concede, albeit with a hint of reluctance, “All right.”

She stood up, and Jennifer took Rebecca on her arm as she guided her out of the hospital room. Before leaving, Jennifer glanced back at Mark with a lingering look and offered a warm farewell, “Mark, make sure to rest well.”
Mark leaned against the bed, his hand supporting his forehead, and he didn’t acknowledge Jennifer’s words.
Jennifer felt a bit embarrassed, but ultimately, she had no choice but to exit the room with Rebecca.
As they walked away, the fleeting gentleness on Jennifer’s face was replaced by a tinge of bitterness and resentment.
She wasn’t sure if Rebecca had overheard it, but Jennifer had heard it clearly.
Before Mark awoke, he had called out Mae’s name, and there is panic and sorrow woven into his voice when he had called out for her, which cannot be easily disregarded.
As he sat on the bed, was he searching for Mae? Did the vacancy in his gaze result from not finding Mae?
Such realizations ignited a wildfire of crisis deep within Jennifer’s heart–a crisis she had avoided. confronting for days.
No, she couldn’t delay any longer.
“I don’t understand what is in Mark’s mind. Even after everything, how he can’t still see through Mae’s greed and vanity when she had already extorted a lot of money from him? Up until now, he still refuses to divorce her.”
Rebecca’s frustration surfaced as she spoke. She had intended to voice these thoughts back in the hospital room, but Mark’s impatience had silenced her.
Now, outside the room, her discontent spilled forth.
The thought of Mae’s smug expression pricked at her nerves. Did Mae dare to act so insolent because Mark still held onto her, refusing to divorce?
Jennifer glanced at her, a dark undertone flashing in her eyes.
In a hushed tone, she muttered, “Auntie, maybe Mark can’t let go of Mae in his heart, which is why he can’t let go of the divorce.”
Rebecca was displeased by the suggestion. “How can that be? That woman is materialistic and superficial, tricking Mark into marrying her so she can infiltrate the Smith family. How could Mark be unable to move on from her?”
“But…”
Jennifer’s eyes welled with tears, the emotion surging unexpectedly.
This spectacle startled Rebecca, who anxiously inquired, “What’s the matter, Jennifer? Why are you crying? What’s wrong? Tell Auntie. Don’t let your emotions overwhelm you, you’re carrying a child after all.”
