Bond
Chapter 91: It Can Only Mean That They Don’t Have A Strong Bond
Mae glanced at Jason, a faint smile forming as she responded to his words, “Considering that you’re unaware of the issues that have been going on between Mark and me, what makes you think that his behavior is justified?”
Mae’s rhetorical question left Jason at a loss for words.
“And besides, I’m not responsible for what happened to him tonight. I didn’t even ask him to approach me. Mr. Delgato, you need to grasp the situation accurately. Don’t make me try to take the blame for something that I didn’t cause.”
Mae’s words triggered a subtle change in Jason’s expression. He tried to defend Mark initially, but as he formed his thoughts into words, he realized that he’d sound forceful no matter how he put it.
“Since Mr. Delgato shares a good relationship with Mr. Smith, why don’t you help me persuade him in expediting the divorce process?”
As she stated those words, she began to turn her back and walk away. However, at this moment, a rush of footsteps from the end of the corridor can be heard, coming in their direction.
Seeing that it was Rebecca Check–Smith and Jennifer Bleak, Mae’s expression grew more subdued.
“Jason! how’s Mark?” asked Rebecca, who caught sight of them first. Concern etched Rebecca’s well–groomed face.
Upon seeing Mae alongside Jason, Rebecca’s worry transformed into anger. She directed her hostility towards Mae.
“Mae? What are you doing here?”
Rebecca’s hostility is evident in her eyes, especially when she thought that because of this little bitch she was being scolded by netizens on the internet not to mention being mocked by those of all kinds, Rebecca was furious.
Mae disregarded Rebecca and proceeded to get on her way to leave.
Rebecca cannot accept such disrespect as she rushed up to stop Mae from getting away from her, her anger evident. “Did you cause this mess with Mark, you troublemaker?! Mark’s never been content with you around, and now you’re shamelessly clinging to my son again, you… you…” Rebecca’s words grew increasingly heated.
“Mrs. Smith!” Mae’s stern tone cut through Rebecca’s tirade, and her icy gaze remained unflinching. With a touch of nonchalance, she laughed at Rebecca’s fuming face.
“If you’re so concerned about me being near your son, then manage him yourself and prevent him from bothering me.”
As she said this, she deliberately paused for a moment to bring an effect. Mae sarcastically smiled, cutting deep into Rebecca’s anger.
“Oh, that’s right, you don’t! If you were only capable of controlling your own son, then Ms. Bleak wouldn’t be living in obscurity, and he wouldn’t be hesitating to divorce me for her benefit.”
Mae’s pointed jabs struck Rebecca where it hurt her. “Rather than jumping on me with any chances you can get, why not try your bullying tactics in front of Mark directly? Can you handle that?”

Rebecca seethed with rage, her face turning crimson.
“You… you bitch! You!”
Her anger prompted her to slap Mae’s face, but before she could do so, Jason intervened. “Calm down, Auntie Rebecca. Mae has nothing to do with the car accident.”
Rebecca’s fury remained undiminished, her aim solely on Mae. She didn’t care if the car accident had anything to do with Mae, she just wanted to tear this wretched woman apart as soon as she saw her.
Yet, she understood that attacking Mae wouldn’t serve her purpose.
What was even more infuriating is that Mark seemed to side with Mae, causing her embarrassment on a public scale.
Despite her desire to lash out, Rebecca couldn’t act against Mae with Jason around.
Glaring at her, teeth gritted, she threatened, “Mae, don’t think you’ve won. Sooner or later, I’ll make sure my son divorces you.”
“Good. I’ll eagerly await that news, Mrs. Check–Smith,”
Mae offered a smile that held an edge of satisfaction before walking away.
Although Jason might have wanted to persuade Mae to stay, the atmosphere at the moment wasn’t quite right.
Jennifer hadn’t spoken a word since she came here. She wasn’t stupid and she saw no reason to interject with Rebecca present.
Her current position cautioned her against making unapproved remarks and inviting further ridicule.
Rebecca’s actions only emphasized her ineffectiveness. Even with the identity of the Smith Corporation CEO’s mother, she couldn’t stand a chance against Mae Lee.
Useless!
With Jennifer’s disdain concealed, she changed back into a pleasing smile. “Auntie, let’s not argue outside. Mark is inside, recovering. It’s not the right time.” She said as calmed Rebecca down.
Jennifer effortlessly soothed Rebecca’s anger, skillfully diffusing the tension.
Observing her, Jason’s gaze held uncertainty.
He quickly discerned Jennifer’s intentions and pondered whether Mark, despite his emotional intelligence, was oblivious to her ulterior motives or was simply enjoying this woman’s attention.
If the latter part was true, then perhaps Mae’s stance on divorce was justified.
Jason believed that Mae had every right to end the marriage if Mark were truly unaware of Jennifer’s hidden intentions.
“Auntie, please sit down and take a moment to rest. I’ll talk to Mae,” Jennifer proposed with continued politeness.
Rebecca expressed dissatisfaction and proceeded in questioning Jennifer’s motives. “What’s your intention in persuading her?” She asked.
“Couples will always encounter conflicts, it’s inevitable. And Mae’s hasty mention of divorce could harm their relationship. As friends of both Mae and Mark, I wish to prevent a divorce from becoming

the final outcome.”
Jennifer explained eloquently.
However, Jason had a different perspective as he could see through Jennifer’s intentions.
He silently labeled Jennifer as manipulative, contrasting her intentions with Mae’s actions. Jennifer’s aspirations to join the Smith family were evident, and Jason was skeptical of her sincerity in persuading Mae.
If she’s messing around behind Mark’s back, then she should count her days.
“Ms. Bleak,” Jason spoke in a detached tone; clearly, he was much more lenient with Mae.
Jason’s address brought Jennifer’s attention, and a faint smile touched her lips as she acknowledged him. “Mr. Delgato.”
“I believe this is a matter between Mark and Mae; outsiders getting involved will only make matters worse, don’t you think so, Ms. Bleak?”
Jason’s statement appeared courteous, yet his gaze held a certain aggression.
The choice of words he employed seemed to insinuate hidden meanings, unsettling Jennifer.
The terms “outsiders” and “making a mess of things” struck her as veiled warnings.
Could it be that Jason was cautioning her?
Jennifer’s heart sank.
She believed Jason to be the most astute among Mark’s associates.
She could fool the affluent acquaintances, but facing Jason was akin to exposing her mind to scrutiny.
“Jason, I…I assure you that my intentions are pure. I merely fear the regret of a potential divorce between Mae and Mark. I’m concerned and…” Jennifer stammered.
“I think it’s their own business, Ms. Bleak.”
Jason’s deep voice cut her off assertively, projecting authority.
“If they do end up divorcing, it would signify that their bond as husband and wife wasn’t just strong enough.”
Jennifer’s eyes darkened, discontent brewing. She resented Jason’s firm stance.
Suppressing her emotions, she offered a strained smile, masking her displeasure.
