Mae rubbed the back of her swollen neck as she came out of the study and looked out the car window, the moonlight illuminating the white snow.
She picked up her footsteps and walked to her daughter’s room. Even though the heat was on all over the house, she was still worried that her daughter would catch a cold.
She had just tucked her daughter in her kicked–off quilt when suddenly the doorbell rang.
“Who would come this late?”
