Was he in love with Mae?
Mark suddenly snorted sarcastically and coldly. How could he fall in love with such a greedy and calculating woman?
But even after emphasizing this in his heart, he still couldn’t explain why he had suddenly returned to live in the marital home where they had lived in the first place. He couldn’t even listen to half of his mother’s slandering words against Mae.
Damn it!
This was really getting crazy!
Mark cursed in his heart and walked up the stairs. His heavy footsteps echoed with hints of anxiety
Returning to his room, his gaze fell on the beautiful and luxurious boxes on the bedside table. He had asked Robert to select them a few days ago to prepare for Mae.
But his innate arrogance and flattered pride made him unable to lower his head to find her. Or rather, he didn’t want to face again the kind of loss and misery he felt when he was rejected by Mae. Those several boxes had been placed in front of the bedside table for several days.
He suddenly sat down on the sofa in a somewhat disheveled state, his mind in turmoil.
Surprisingly, he couldn’t remember how Mae looked at him with affection. The only thing he could remember was Mae standing there with cold, distant, impatient, and even disgusted eyes.
He couldn’t accept that the woman whose heart and eyes were filled with nothing but him was now looking at him with disgust in her eyes.
Everyone said that Mae loved him so much that there was no bottom line and dignity. As long as he hooks a finger, Mae would be able to return to his side.
Everybody said that Mae couldn’t leave him for the rest of his life and that her behavior these days was just her way of trying to catch him and get his attention on purpose.
He once believed in such perception for a while, but every time he met Mae’s strange and cold eyes, his confidence would shatter time and time again.
The more he thought about it, the more the irritation in Mark’s heart began to spread unchecked.
A few moments later, he took out his cell phone and clicked on Mae’s cell phone number, but his fingertips stopped the moment he clicked.
After hesitating for a long time, he dialed the phone anyway, and the force holding it unconsciously increased a little bit, inadvertently releasing some tension.
Mae had just finished her work and was coming out of the study when her cell phone rang, a somewhat familiar cell phone number.
Mark’s phone.
Mae recognized it at a glance.
She hesitated for two seconds before answering. “You have decided to sign?”
There was a strange silence on the other end of the phone, and in that silence, Mae detected a hint

of inexplicable pressure.
“Mark…”
“Mae, don’t keep challenging my temper.”
Mark’s voice was suppressed with anger, coming from the other end of the phone. “I said I won’t sign the divorce papers. You want to get rid of me, is that it?”
On the other line, Mark spoke at a fast pace. “My account book only allows for widowhood.”
Mae: “…
Could you still chat properly? Did you want her to die?
Seeing that Mark wasn’t calling to talk about the divorce, Mae’s brow furrowed unhappily. “So, why are you looking for me?”
His expression froze at her question. The words on his lips immediately got stuck and couldn’t come
out.
He didn’t know why he had called her all of a sudden, and deep inside he seemed to be carrying some kind of unlikely expectation..
Expecting her to go soft on him, expecting a perfect pedestal for his proud ego.
But there was nothing.
The only use of this phone call was that he had once again managed to make himself so angry with
her.
When Mae saw that the other end of the phone had once again fallen into silence, she said impatiently. “If you’re not going to talk to me about the divorce, there’s nothing else to talk about between Mr. Smith and me. That’s it.”
“Mae…”
Mark’s words were barely out of his mouth when Mae hung up on the other end of the line.
He gasped and his face darkened. In the bedroom without electric light, he plunged into the darkness. The moonlight through the window fell on his perfect but somewhat despondent side face. A long sigh came out after a while.
A few moments later, he suddenly stood up violently from the sofa. The loneliness he had just felt turned into a trace of overbearingness that could not be concealed again. He took out his cell phone and dialed out again, only this time, what he was looking for was not Mae, but…
“Go find out what Mae is doing these days and report back to me on all her travels.”
As he finished the sentence, he angrily tossed his cell phone to the side and walked towards the bathroom with great strides.
On the other side, Assistant Robert Sands, who was just about to enjoy the joy of being off work, stared at the screen of the hung–up phone. He froze for several seconds before exclaiming in a low
voice.
“Does this dog even want to be a human being?”
Surprisingly, he was asked to do something that only paparazzi do. He was asked to investigate his ex–wife!

If you care so much, don’t get divorced when you have the ability. Don’t piss people off!
Robert was furious, but after a burst of impotent rage, he silently put down the freshly cooked spicy hot pot in his hand, resigned himself to his fate, and went to work.
The next day.
A pile of not–too–thick documents was placed in front of Mark’s desk. Robert looked at his own boss with a pleasant face and said:
“Sir, this is Madame’s main daily schedule. Other than that, she goes out with a few of her close friends for shopping and coffee. Nothing more.”
Mark flipped through the information submitted by Robert. His eyebrows knit tighter and tighter. “She is still a researcher at Beyond Technologies?”
This was really beyond Mark’s expectations.
Although Beyond Technologies was not a deep–rooted biological company, it was by no means the kind of drug R&D laboratories that had come around. Especially Aaron Foster, who was also quite famous in the pharmaceutical industry, how could he just let Mae, a nonexpert, go to his research and development company as a researcher?
What did Aaron want?
Mark couldn’t help but think of that day in front of the Langley Family Martial Arts Center, the scene
where Aaron sent Mae back.
Then he thought of the earlier paparazzi footage of the two of them together…
Mark’s frown deepened with the anger and unwillingness to admit panic slowly rising from his chest.
Robert saw that the face of his own big boss was becoming more and more sullen, and he shouted in his heart that this was not good.
He pushed off his glasses and immediately said:
“Madam… is indeed a researcher in the lab, but it has nothing to do with the projects our company is involved in. What Madam is involved in is a new project developed by Mr. Foster.”
After Robert finished, Mark raised his head, the biting cold in his eyes not diminishing, but becoming even more intimidating.
“Get out.”
Unknown and innocently scolded, Robert didn’t dare to stop halfway. “Yes, Mr. President.”
The door of the office was closed. Mark looked at the information in front of him, and the dark color in the bottom of his eyes became more and more intense.
