Chapter 5
In their circle, everyone knew that Mae was deeply in love with Mark. Four years ago, the couple suddenly divorced, and after that, Mae left and no one, not even her closest friend, knew where she had gone.
It wasn’t until last month when she received a call from Mae that she finally learned what had happened back then. Mark, that trash, had actually forced Mae to get an abortion using the divorce as leverage, just to be with Jennifer, a woman from the entertainment industry.
“What a scumbag!!” Jean cursed lowly, but considering Mae’s feelings, she tried to console her. Just as she was about to speak, she saw Mae’s serene and calm eyes, as if the stranger they saw earlier had nothing to do with her.
“Mae–Mae, don’t pay attention to them. What’s so good about a pair of trash? I’ll introduce you to a man better than Mark another day.”
Hearing her best friend’s indignation, Mae remained calm. She smiled and nodded. “Mark is already in the past. Don’t scold him for my sake. Maybe he still thinks I have lingering feelings for him.”
Jean pursed her lips and nodded thoughtfully. “You’re right. Let’s go back.”
Until they left the airport, Mae maintained her smile and didn’t look at Mark again.
She had anticipated that she would run into Mark sooner or later after returning, but she didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. Moreover, she saw that he was officially with Jennifer as soon as she came back.
But when she thought about it, it made sense. They had been divorced for four years, and there was no need for them to hide. They even received support from the public. With such a good opportunity. how could they not be together?
“Why are you here?”
Mark withdrew his arm from Jennifer’s grasp without hesitation, and his furrowed brows clearly showed displeasure.
With a cold and deep voice devoid of any emotion, and his dark eyes inscrutable, he looked at Jennifer, who still had her hand hanging in the air.
“I had a shoot in the neighboring city, so I coincidentally saw you at the airport and came to say hello.”
Jennifer explained with a stiff smile.
Mark didn’t respond to her explanation and just raised his wrist to check the time. He then turned to his assistant and asked, “Is everything arranged?”
“Yes, everything is arranged.”
“Let’s go.”
Mark didn’t spare a glance for Jennifer and headed towards the boarding gate.
However, after walking a few steps, he suddenly stopped and looked fiercely towards the airport entrance. His previously dark eyes turned sharp in an instant.
Following Mark’s gaze, his assistant also looked in that direction. Besides the regular flow of people coming and going, there was nothing special at the airport entrance.
Chapter
“President?”
“No, it’s nothing. Let’s go,”
Mark withdrew his gaze, concealing the inexplicable emotions in his eyes, and resumed his usual cold demeanor.
His assistant couldn’t help but wonder, “President, who did you see just now?”
Mark’s hand on the luggage clenched into a fist inadvertently, his eyes dim and filled with self–mockery.
He had actually thought he saw Mae just now.
Watching Mark walk away without looking back and not even bothering to speak to her, Jennifer couldn’t help but feel a tinge of disappointment.
“Jennifer.”
Her assistant’s cautious voice sounded in her ear.
Jennifer’s gaze fell on the mini SLR camera that her assistant held, and she asked coldly, “Did your capture everything?”
