Chapter 31: If a Real Conflict Arises, Mr. Smith Won’t Be Embrassed Either
Her expression remained lazy, even when the topic of the child from years ago was brought up. There was no hint of change in her expression as she spoke, “Didn’t Mr. Smith also review the medical record I provided back then?”
She gestured dismissively at Mark, “This child has nothing to do with you. You can rest assured. If there are no further questions, I’ll take my leave.”
Turning around, she only then realized that her wrist had been held by Mark and he hadn’t let go.
She struggled slightly, failing to break free. “Mr. Smith, with so many people around, it wouldn’t look good for you if things turned into a real scene. Let go.”
The smile on Mae’s face faded, replaced by a gaze at mark that even pretended politeness couldn’t hide.
Their eyes met, and in the still air, a sense of tension began to rise.
“Mr. Smith…”
“Mark!”
The angry tone in Mae’s voice was interrupted by a clear and melodious female voice.
The next moment, Jennifer appeared within everyone’s line of sight.
She approached with a smile, heading straight for Mark. “Mark, I…”
But in the next seconnd, as if just spotting Mae, her expression changed to one of surprise. “Mae, what a coincidence to find you here. Do you… have something to discuss with Mark?”
With an apologetic smile, she added, “I seem to have come at an inconvenient time. You two go ahead and talk.”
“I’ve already finished discussing matters with Mr. Smith.”
Mae’s gaze casually swept over her hand that was being held by Mark. “Mr. Smith, if you don’t let go soon, I won’t be polite.”
Mark caught the hint of anger in her eyes and his lips curled into a slightly amused smile.
For the past couple of days, he hadn’t seen anything on Mae’s face other than distance and indifference. But now, seeing the fire burning in her eyes, his mood actually improved.
A pleased smile formed at the corner of his mouth. “Alright, Ms. Lee, show me how you’re going to be impolite to me.”
With his words, Jennifer, who was standing next to him, suddenly raised her eyes to look at him. A faint change could be seen in her expression.
She didn’t know if Mark had noticed it himself, but she was standing right beside him and could see clearly.
Despite Mae’s unfriendly attitude, Mark not only wasn’t angered, but… she could hear a sense of unsettling delight in his teasing and seemingly indifferent tone. He… was actually pleased by Mae’s demeanor?
No, how could that be possible?

What was Mark thinking?
At this moment, Jennifer couldn’t help but feel a slight sense of crisis. She couldn’t pretend to be magnanimous like she had earlier. She immediately spoke up, ” Mark, I have something very important to discuss with you.”
The evident pleasure on Mark’s face, which she had disrupted, faded noticeably. An impatient furrow appeared on his otherwise aloof brows as he replied, “Whatever it is, Robert will handle it.”
While speaking, Mark’s gaze remained fixed on Mae’s face. Seeing the intensity of the fire in her eyes grow, the corner of his lips involuntarily curled.
Seeing that Mark hadn’t released her yet and not intending to continue wasting words with him, Mae lifted her other hand and aimed a punch at his left cheek.
“Mark!”
Amidst the exclamation from Jennifer and the collective gasps of the onlookers, Mark took Mae’s punch squarely on his face.
She hadn’t put all her strength into that punch, and Mark hadn’t expected her to act so straightforwardly and violently. He hadn’t had time to dodge, so he ended up taking the full brunt of
the blow.
