Chapter 150 Do you still not believe me
Mae was surprised for a moment.
“Oh, I know.”
Her answer shocked Mark. “What? You knew about it?”
“Yeah, yes, I just found out about half an hour ago.”
After Mae finished speaking, an inexplicable irritability suddenly appeared in her heart, “It’s only now that I know that President Smith has a special hobby of being a father.”
Mae though that he would rather have someone else’s child than his own. She felt that her current situation was both pathetic and ridiculous.
In the past, she could foolishly not want that child just to save that marriage that existed only in
name.
Thinking back, she deserved everything she had endured from the past.
“Is Mr. Smith finished now?”
Mae asked him, obviously not wanting to continue listening to him, and Mark inevitably felt it too
The more things happen this way, the more he refused to let her go easily.
He wrapped his hands around Mae’s waist and subconsciously tightened his strength, “Mae, before I took over the Smith Corporation, I serve as a soldier of a special forces for two years. That child’s father is a comrade–in–arms on the mission with me.”
Hearing this, Mae’s eyes flashed with surprise, and his memory suddenly returned to when she was
sixteen.
She was kidnapped and locked in a dark, abandoned factory building.
It was a cold and snow–covered winter. When she was kidnapped, she was only wearing a light pajama.
She was groggy, cold and hungry.
She felt that she would definitely die in that winter.
She didn’t know how long she had been locked up, but just as her consciousness was gradually blurring, she saw the first rays of sunlight that morning.
The man dressed in a black outfit was hidden in the sunlight as he slowly walked closer to her.
She saw the first light in the morning, and the light of life that had pulled her back from the gate of
hell.
He picked her up, wrapped her in his warm coat, and said, “Don’t be afraid” in her ear.
Those simple words were like a hot brand on Mae’s heart.
She only knew that because of those two words, her heart that had been terrified for many days was really no longer afraid.
She closed her eyes, tired and hungry, but she could still feel his steady and powerful heartbeat, as if he was hugging her.

So… at that time, was he on a mission?
At that time, she had been surprised that the man who came to save her was not in the police station. She had been searching for this for several years. When she saw him again, it was at a charity dinner.
He was the unattainable CEO of the Smith Corporation, and she was just a little star who was crawling through the ladder of the entertainment industry that even greeting him was too much to ask.
She suppressed the ecstasy and throbbing in her heart, but she couldn’t help but go over to thank him for saving her.
However, he only gave her an indifferent look and told her that she was wrong.
But deep inside Mae was sure she wasn’t mistaken. That face had already been deeply engraved in her heart. Even if she became old and died, the light in her life would not dim because of this. How could he say that she was mistaken?
She thought that Mark might have just looked down on her. For in his eyes, the one who thanked her at that time might just be a scheming starlet with an impure purpose to get on his sponsor.
So, she did not insist, she apologized and left.
What happened next was just too many mishaps.
She thought that she would not have anything to do with Mark anymore. If it wasn’t for that night, or after that night, she and Mark would not take things seriously. Maybe, there would not be so many tragedies.
Mark saw that Mae was suddenly distracted.
“He had already retired due to injury like me, but he was sent on a mission last year. In the end…”
After sating that, Mark became quiet for a while before he continued speaking with his hoarse voice, “He’s gone.”
Mae was not stupid. Mark only needed to say this to understand why he cared so much about that
child.
Because that child was the only bloodline his comrade had left in this world.
In that way, Jennifer took it as a chance to use that child to pinch him and force him to sign a divorce, just like how he forced her back then.
Mae’s heart suddenly felt a little sad.
“I really don’t know about the scandals about me and Jennifer on the Internet. I have too many things. to deal with. I don’t have time to pay attention to things on the Internet. I don’t know that those scandals will make you misunderstood so deeply.”
Mark continued to explain earnestly, for fear that Mae would not believe his words.
“Mae, believe me, I have nothing to do with Jennifer at all. Everything I gave her was just to encourage her to keep that child, that’s all.”
Mae looked at him with a cold expression and could see that he did not lie to her, or that he did not need to lie to her.

“Then…then why…”
For a split second, Mae almost asked why he chose to save Jennifer by leaving her alone in the cold water in the past.
But when she reached her lips, she realized that what happened in her previous life did not happen in this life. If she really asked, Mark would probably think that there was something wrong with her
brain.
“What?”
Mark asked her. He frowned, but his expression was very serious. “If you have any questions, you can ask me directly, and I can answer you.”
May sternly said, “Your mother didn’t say that back then.”
Mark was stunned. When he remembered how his mother wanted to shove Jennifer into his arms, he knew what Mae was talking about.
In those baseless scandals, his mother must have contributed a lot.
“You don’t have to listen to her.”
When she mentioned her mother’s name, Mark’s voice became colder.
He had just found a way to dodge what she had just asked a while ago, and had no intention of dragging her mother’s name in the conversation again.
After Mark said that, she gave a faint “Yes” and stood quiet as Mae remembered a memory from the
past.
In the same year after losing her child in the past, Mrs. Smith kept accusing and scolding her for running on her in private. She was reminded of several things that happened before which had like piles of straw that slowly crushing her.
Hearing how perfunctory Mae’s ‘Yes‘ was, Mark felt anxious.
“Do you still not believe me?”
Mark asked her, his brows furrowed.
At this time, Mae felt that she should probably believe his words. After all, he had no reason to lie to
her.
