Chapter 113. She’d Compromised And Reduced Herself To Dust To Completely Get Rid Of Him.
Jason fell silent as he looked at Mark in shock.
His mouth has got to be the toughest part of his whole body.
David, unable to hold back, leaned closer and whispered, “Honestly Mark, divorce isn’t such a big deal. After all, when Mae calculated things, you had no choice but to marry her. Now that you’re both divorced, you both can now go in your own separate ways. Isn’t that the sensible thing to do? No
need to – ow! Victoria!”
David’s words were cut short as Victoria ruthlessly pinched his arm, causing him to grimace in pain.
“I know Mae, she would never do something like that. There must be other reasons behind her decision regarding her relationship with my brother. If she is really in it for the money, she could have accepted Jaxton West’s offer to support her from the start. Why risk getting involved with your brother? She wouldn’t fear the consequences if he were to pass away.”
Even when Victoria initially learned about Mae’s involvement with that man, she couldn’t help but worry for her.
She knew his character too well; after all, she was his sister. Mae getting into a relationship with him meant not just the challenges of the entertainment industry, but everyday life would become complicated. Victoria hadn’t expected that the man would eventually propose marriage to Mae, leaving her dumbfounded.
She had assumed he was secretly in love with Mae and was proposing out of genuine feelings. But he quickly changed after they were married. He was either away on business trips or slept at the company, neglecting his responsibilities.
Victoria couldn’t outright say he married Mae to be irresponsible, but it felt more like a punishment than anything else.
“Jaxton West is good–looking and wealthy anyway. More importantly, he is more of a man than Mark will ever be. Considering Mae’s appearance and temperament and Mark’s attitude towards her, It’s like comparing a well–tempered dog to a dog with a terrible temperament.”
Jason remained silent, processing the conversation. David, on the other hand, seemed at a loss for words.
During his wife’s fiery criticism of her great–uncle, David couldn’t help but feel concerned for her. His wife was a force to be reckoned with, and he believed she was possibly the only person in the world who dared to criticize Mark like this.
“How did you find out that Jaxton West is pursuing her?”
Jaxton West, the crown prince of WGN Entertainment, is both handsome and wealthy. He’s a hot topic in gossip, just like Mark.
The positive thing about Jaxton West is that he’s open about his lifestyle and treats his female companions generously. Unlike Mark, who appears distant and unapproachable, Jaxton is well–liked in the entertainment industry.
Surprisingly, today they discovered that Jaxton West had also shown interest in Mae.
“I saw it with my own eyes.”
Victoria rolled her eyes at her husband’s confusion. “All of you think Mae is after money. Don’t you have any brains? Why aren’t you using them? If Mae is really going after Mark’s deep pockets, why wouldn’t she just ask my brother for ten billion dollars upfront? She knows his wealth well enough as his wife anyway.”
Victoria couldn’t help but shoot a scornful glance at the people in front of her. What did that guy have going for him besides his looks, wealth, and family background? Nothing but torture! Only Mae, that naive woman, could put up with his horrible attitude for a year before seeking a divorce.
David struggled to come up with a retort under his wife’s relentless gaze.
poor,
At that moment, Mark’s face was flushed from alcohol, and his expression held a hint of darkness. His eyes were cold, resembling a hidden blade ready to strike, exuding hostility and menace.
Oddly enough, in the midst of all this, they witnessed Mark smirking to himself. “You’re right, she’s not interested in wealth…” He murmured.
He stood up from the sofa, adjusting his suit jacket, “You all enjoy yourselves. Everything’s on my tab.” Mark said as he walked out of the scene.
“Mark……”
Although Victoria has spewed harsh words at Mark, she still cared for him in the end. Just as she was about to go after him to stop him, Jason intervened.
“Let him have some time alone. I’ll call his driver.”
They couldn’t afford a repeat of the previous incident.
Mark opened the door and came out of the private room, his head throbbed as if it was going to explode. He recalled Victoria’s words, his heart tightening as he did so.
“She’s not going after my money, but she…”
Despite her efforts to distance herself, she’d compromised and reduced herself to dust to completely get rid of him.
“I’ve never truly loved you. If given the chance, I’d still sleep with any wealthy man I meet…”
They couldn’t be friends; it was better to be strangers…
“I’m just a playwright. I’m not that noble…”
Mae’s words echoed relentlessly in his mind.
“Why does it hurt so much?”
Mark raised his hand, and pressed his heart, feeling an excruciating emptiness, as if a gaping void had been ripped open, allowing a merciless chill to invade.
His head ached, a torrent of pain threatening to rupture the veins in his brain.
“Young master…”
The driver received Jason’s call and rushed over, witnessing Mark leaning against the wall, his face crimson, contorted with anguish and pain.
“Young master, let me help you –”
Puh!
Before the driver could finish his words, his face was sprayed with liquid.
In the air, a faint metallic smell of blood filled the air, and the driver froze for a moment and was instantly shocked when he saw that the liquid that has been sprayed on him was blood stains, which spread out on his light–colored jacket.
“Young Master!” He shrieked. At that moment, Mark had completely lost consciousness, and the driver rushed to catch his falling body.
In the middle of the night, Mark Smith was rushed to the Hedwer van Duranstrom Advanced Private Hospital, Brain Surgery Department.
Torrance Remington stood beside Mark’s unconscious body lying on the bed and spoke solemnly, “The shrapnel that remains in his brain has started affecting the neurovascular vessels. This led to an increase in intracranial pressure, resulting in him vomiting blood and falling into a coma.”
The man with gold–rimmed glasses stood there, hands in pockets, his gaze fixed on the man lying pale–faced on the hospital bed. He responded with gravity, “But you previously mentioned that the shrapnel wouldn’t cause significant harm as long as it remained in place. How could this be…”
“The condition for it to be non–disruptive is that he avoids extreme emotional fluctuations. He’s managed it quite well over the years, so it’s baffling how tonight led to this…”
Torrance looked at Mark once again, his expression a mix of skepticism and curiosity. After knowing. Mark for years, he had always been the type to hide his emotions. For him to exhibit such mood swings tonight was exceedingly unusual.
The few individuals present who were privy to the situation wore slightly perplexed expressions upon hearing Torrance’s explanation.
“Hmm…”
Jason stroked his chin thoughtfully, searching for words to sum up the situation. “Perhaps… this is caused by love.”
“By love?”
Torrance’s astonishment was evident, almost dropping his jaw. But then, another thought struck him, and his expression turned neutral. “Is it because of Mae?”
“You’re aware of that too?” Jason raised an eyebrow.
Torrance smirked knowingly, implying that he might possess some insight, yet he chose not to reveal
more.
Not probing further, Jason furrowed his brow and directed his query at Torrance about Mark’s current condition. “Will this incident leave any lasting effects on him?”
“It’s not discernible at the moment. However, it does pose a latent risk. I’ve been exploring ways to surgically remove the shrapnel from his brain over the past few years, but a foolproof method still remains elusive.”
The shrapnel was embedded perilously close to vital nervous vessels, If it were extracted and the blood vessels ruptured, resulting in hemorrhage, Mark could either die or end up in a vegetative
Thus, no one dared to undertake the risk ny considered.
