Chapter 111: She Was Incredibly Fortunate That She Did Not Abort Her
In this last sentence, however, Mae kept to her thoughts. She never said it in front of Mark.
Mark stared at Mae with raging eyes, his expression had many more fluctuations than before, but Mae couldn’t read it and didn’t want to bother to do so anymore.
In a few moments, Mark finally released Mae from his tight grip. After giving Mae a cold look, he turned around and left in big steps.
Until Mark completely disappeared in her line of sight, Mae finally let go of her tough exterior and collapsed, her reaching out to hold the armrests of the bench as she slowly sat down.
Her hand gently rubbed the shoulder that Mark put his tight grip on earlier. With eyes empty, she murmured in a low voice. “We have long been finished… long, long ago…”
After a while, Mae before gritting his teeth to endure the severe pain in her feet as she walked out of the hospital, step by step.
At this point, it is still hard to hail a taxi. After thinking about it, she reached for her phone and began to call her friend Jean. “Hello, Jean? Come and pick me up at the Hedwer van Duranstrom Advanced Private Hospital.”
When Jean received Mae’s call, she had just finished a lawsuit and come out of court. She immediately set out to fetch her friend.
When she rushed to Hedwer van Duranstrom Advanced Private Hospital, Mae was standing at the main entrance of the hospital waiting for her. Wearing a black cashmere coat, Mae looked extremely frail in the snow, as if the wind could blow her away at any second.
“Mae!”
Hearing Jean call out to her, Mae raised her head and saw that Jean was leaning over to the side of the road to the park, and for some reason, her eyes soured for a moment before she waved and smiled at her.
“Why did you go here? Are you not feeling well?” Jean asked.
“No, I came to save Jennifer’s pregnancy,” Mae replied casually, her feet limping towards Jean’s car.
“Hold on, what’s wrong with your foot? Why are you limping like that?”
Jean noticed that she was out of sorts and hurriedly pulled her to ask.
“It’s a long story, let’s talk about it in the car.”
Jean nodded and didn’t ask again. That is until they are both sitting inside her car when Jean started bombarding Mae with questions.
“What the hell is going on? What do you mean you’re here to save Jennifer’s pregnancy? Why are you bothering to save an unborn child of a shameless mistress like her?”
Jean looked at Mar incredulously, dissatisfied with the decision that her friend made today. But saw Mae smile with a disbelieving face and said, “Because it’s what Mark and I had made a deal out of. In exchange for keeping and saving Jennifer’s unborn child, Mark agreed to a divorce.”
Jean froze for a while, then slapped her forehead with a dazed expression. “Right! You have mentioned this to me before! How could I forget about it?”

As soon as she said this, Jean pouted with contempt and said angrily, “That bastard Mark has been refusing to get a divorce before, he seemed to be very devoted. And now his tail is exposed! He is willing to divorce you in order to save that illegitimate child of his with that mistress. He got tired of his pretentious ass.”
Jean is right. In the end, Mark is still very concerned about the child in Jennifer’s womb.
Mae inwardly sighed in her heart and said, “Let’s not talk about him anymore. Since we’re now divorced, I don’t have to ask what kind of relationship he has with other women anymore.”
“You’re right.”
Jean didn’t want to poke his best friend’s sadness again, so he joked, “It’s a pity that you didn’t want any of his huge assets. I could have filed a lawsuit for you, and we will undoubtedly win. You will share a point of my lawyer’s service fee, and I’ll be rich…”
“Look at you go…”
Mae slapped Jean at the back of her head in a bad mood and asked, “It’s been so long, your brother still hasn’t considered returning the shares to you?”
“Ah, my brother. The board of directors is putting pressure on him every day. I’m not in a hurry, though. If he’s capable, he’ll just continue to hold it, or else he’ll still have to give it to me sooner or
later,”
Jean was upset at the mention of Peter Gray and directly changed the topic. “You still haven’t told me what happened with your feet. That scumbag Mark didn’t hurt you, right?” She asked.
“What are you thinking?” Mae glanced at her angrily and asked.
“It’s true that while that scumbag deserves such a title, he won’t resort to doing this to you. Now tell me what’s going on with your foot.” Jean answered.
The smile at the corner of Mae’s mouth tightened for a few moments, and her gaze became thoughtful, “Someone drove a car into me, I don’t know if they wanted to kidnap me or kill me.”
Screech!
The strong and loud sound of brakes startled Mae as she almost fell face flat on the car’s dashboard. She saw Jean stop the car, looking at Mae with a face full of shock. “What the hell is going on here?”
“Those three people have already been taken away by the police, I guess later, the police side will have an answer.” Mae acted like it wasn’t a big deal, but it made Jean anxious and angry, and he cursed angrily.
“Bastard, son of a bitch, I’m going to the police station to tear those fucking dogs apart!”
Looking at Jean as she restart the car while cursing non–stop, Mae helplessly shook his head and smiled bitterly, “Jean Gray, drive safely. My little life is in your hands now.”
Jean deflated, reluctantly quieted down, and drove smoothly. But in her heart, she was furious.
“Eh? You say you’ve only been back for how long. What kind of gods have you offended that people want to lay hands on you?”
Hearing this, Mae shook her head. “I’ll go to the police station tomorrow to ask about the situation.” There was no way this matter could just be left alone like that. If someone really had their eyes on

her, even going so far as to take her life, she wouldn’t be able to take this matter too lightly.
“I have a few friends I know over at the police station, I’ll find them tomorrow and ask carefully.”
“Good.”
Mae rubbed her temples, suddenly feeling a little tired, leaning back in her chair and closing her eyes without making another sound.
Jean gave her a sideways glance, knowing that she was not happy in her heart, and didn’t make a sound to disturb her at this moment, so she drove all the way to the direction of Mae’s home.
“Here, let me apply this ointment,” Auntie Melissa gently held a tube of warm brown ointment and began to apply it to Mae’s severely swollen ankle. Her caring words accompanied the action, “You really should be more careful. Take these days to rest at home properly.”
“I understand, Auntie Melissa,” Mae replied warmly, finding comfort in the familiar and loving scolding. Being around Auntie Melissa felt like being with her own mother, a nostalgic and comforting sensation.
“Mommy…” Sandra chimed in from the side, quickly making her way to Mae’s side. She wrapped her chubby arms around Mae’s slender waist, her little face scrunching adorably.
“What is it, my baby?” Mae softly asked as she reached out her hand to hold Sandra’s chin.
“Did a bad guy hurt you? Tell Sandra, and Sandra will help you get back at them.”
Sandra’s innocent concern and determination to seek revenge elicited a smile from Mae. Her heart was instantly filled with warmth when her little girl tutted her pink lips and huffed as she clenched her small fists.
Sandra was a constant reminder of the happiness and blessing to Mae. In this life, she was incredibly fortunate that she did not abort her and take half of her life to give birth to her.
However, alongside this happiness, memories of her past life haunted her. The guilt and sorrow she felt for having listened to Mark’s words and gone through with the abortion were like shadows, sometimes clouding her thoughts in the quiet of the night.
“Sandra, thank you, but the bad person has already been caught by the police. Mommy is okay now. See?” Mae assured her daughter, her voice soft and reassuring.
Sandra’s response was swift and fierce, “Stupid bad person, how dare they hurt Mama! Sandra’s really mad at them!”
