I was relieved to see Barbara’s sanity and clarity, but my heart ached for her immensely. Any words of comfort seemed feeble. All I could do was to make Norman pay for
his actions.
After a moment of silence, Barbara said, “Since he’s betrayed me, there’s nothing left for me to cling onto. Tell me what to do, Rena, and I’ll do it.”
Barbara and I had a chat in the ward. I learned more about Norman.
Norman was not from a wealthy family. He was born in a small village, but he was a hard working and bright kid, which led him to a good university. After graduate, he got a job at his current company, and there was a good chance he was about to get promoted.
For Norman, his job was crucial, the comerstone of his life in Rosemont. If he lost his job, he might never find such a good one again.
Barbara also told me that Norman’s parents were only in their fifties, but they had already retired, completely relying on Norman for support. Barbara never cared about these things. She didn’t lack money and didn’t mind helping her future parents-in-law financially.
Just as we finished talking. Stella and the others came back with Barbara’s mom.
“Mom!” Seeing her mother, Barbara immediately burst into tears.
Barbara’s mother rushed over to her, her eyes filled with concern and love.
I left the ward with Stella and Alicia and filled them in on Barbara’s attitude and Norman’s situation.

“Neil, can you do me a favor?” I asked bluntly.
“Go on,” he responded succinctly.
I wanted Neil to ask the HR department to offer Norman an attractive job to lure him into quitting his current job.

I replied, “Who said I want you to actually hire him? I just want you to send an invitation, as long as it can entice him to leave his current company.”
Neil frowned, “What are you up to?”
Since Barbara had decided to end things with Norman and I indeed needed Neil’s help, I decided to tell him the truth.
After hearing me out, Neil narrowed his eyes, “So the soap opera you told me about last time, it’s about Barbara, isn’t it?”
“It’s not a soap opera! It’s real!” I answered a bit angrily, “If Whitmore Co. wasn’t that attractive, I would have asked my parents for help.”/

“Don’t you know that being with your boss, you can learn a lot?” Neil argued convincingly.
I chuckled and took the cup. As I was heading to make some coffee, I muttered, “Why don’t you have your college girl learn some stuff? She needs it more than I do!” Every time I brought up Bonnie, Neil’s facial expression would go frosty
Under his disapproving glare, I happily brewed a cup of coffee and handed it to him.
Just as I sat down at my desk, an unknown number texted me: “Irene, it’s Bonnie. Can we meet up?”
How did Bonnie get my number? I frowned, texting back, “Sure. After i get off work.”
