Chapter 291
Bonnie seemed to have a sixth sense about me. Just as I tossed away that file, she called me from an unknown number.
“Ms. Finch, have you reviewed my partnership proposal?’ No sooner had Bonnie’s voice sounded did I hung up and added that number to my block list.
The afternoon flew by.
I tidied up my desk and then headed back to Sterling Estates.
Neil and I got home about the same time. The smell of food wafting from the dining room made me instantly hungry. I sat
down at the table.
Hannah was in her maid’s uniform, looking sprightly.
Her cooking was just as good as it was at lunch. I ate till I was full. Finally, I had hope of gaining some weight.
“Ms. Finch, can | officially start work the day after tomorrow?” Hannah suddenly asked. “Tomorrow, I have to collect Oscar’s
ashes.”
The mention of Oscar made my mood a bit heavy. I nodded and said, “Alright. I’ll go with you tomorrow morning. You can rest at home in the afternoon.”
Russel’s engagement party was tomorrow night, so I was free during the day.
Hannah didn’t want to trouble me, but I insisted on accompanying her
After dinner, I went to bed early. The following morning, I had to accompany Hannah to collect Oscar’s ashes, and in the afternoon, I had to prepare for Russel’s engagement party.
Those days, Russel hadn’t contacted me or sent any messages. Sometimes, I thought he should have just given up on me. but then I thought that was impossible.
I lay in bed, thinking about these things, waiting for Neil to come to bed, but he didn’t come back until I fell asleep.
When I woke up early the next morning, I saw Neil coming down from the upstairs study. He looked like he had worked late in the study last night and just slept there.
I wished he could sleep in the study every day.
“I’m going out for a bit.” I gave him a nod.
“Alright. Don’t forget we have Russel’s engagement party tonight.” Neil reminded me casually, hands tucked in his pockets.
He wouldn’t let me go before, but now he was afraid I wouldn’t go. It seemed like he agreed with my analysis,
I nodded, heading downstairs.
Hannah was already up early waiting for me.
I asked Bailey to drive us to the funeral home. As I left, I felt Neil watching me for some reason, and his gaze was a bit odd. But I didn’t think too much about it. Right now, I was heading to the funeral home.
On the way, Hannah started talking about Bonnie again. She knew about what had happened between me, Neil, and Bonnie. Because Oscar had told her.
“Ms. Finch, why do you want to get back with Mr. Whitmore? Oscar said you’re a good woman, and Mr. Whitmore doesn’t deserve you.” Hannah usually seemed timid, but now she was blunt.
Even Bailey, who was driving, couldn’t help but cough.
I didn’t know how to answer that question. In fact, I planned to leave Neil as soon as I had achieved my goal.
“Hannah, our situation is complicated; it’s hard to explain in a short time. But I’m curious, why didn’t you like Bonnie back then?” I changed the subject.
Hannah was silent for a few seconds, then sighed and said, “Of course, there’s a reason, but she and Oscar have been apart for so long, so there’s no need to bring up those things.”
Hannah had a good heart. Even though she didn’t like Bonnie, she didn’t badmouth her behind her back.
The premise was that she didn’t know that Oscar’s death might be related to Bonnie.

When we arrived at the funeral home, Hannah collected the ashes, and then we returned to Sterling Estates. She cried all the way, and I felt depressed. If Oscar knew I was back with Neil, he would be disappointed.
Back at Sterling Estates, I found Neil wasn’t home. I wanted to ask the servants, but I didn’t do it in the end.
After dinner, I chose my clothes and then did my makeup. Even though the engagement party started in the evening. I needed to arrive a bit early. Just as I was carefully applying my makeup, the door opened.
Neil walked in. I glanced at him, feeling that strange sensation again.
I could say I was one of the people who knew him best, so even if there was no change in his expression, I could feel he was different
He walked over to me, looking at our reflection in the mirror. A faint smile tugged at his lips as he asked, “Do you really need to dress up this seriously?”
“There will be a lot of people there, some of whom are my business partners, so I need to put some effort into my appearance. I replied.
“Oh.” Neil nodded, casually picked up one of my lipsticks, and fiddled with it.
The atmosphere in the bedroom was silent. I felt a bit nervous, but I didn’t ask Neil what happened.
We were about to leave. I didn’t want to have any conflict with him at this time.
After a while, I was almost ready. I was preparing to leave with Neil when he looked at me with a gloomy expression and said, “Have the driver take you.”
“Aren’t we going together?” I frowned. I didn’t necessarily want to show up with Neil, and I just didn’t know what had happened to make him change his mind.
“Hmm” Neil grunted and headed to the underground garage, leaving me alone in the living room.
Hannah looked at me, her eyes filled with worry
-I was used to Neil’s sudden changes, so I walked out the door calmly and asked Bailey to take me.
Russel’s engagement party was held at the Orchid Hotel. We had dined here before and discussed my marriage to Neil.
Now, I was here for his engagement party.
“Irene””
Just as I entered the elevator, Kitty’s voice rang out. She came in cheerfully, with Cooper by her side.
She definitely didn’t come with her dad. She was clearly not cool with him,
“Why are you here alone?” Kitty looked outside the elevator, asking with a puzzled look.
“Isn’t that the norm?” I replied with a smile.
“Where’s Neil?” Kitty sighed, “You guys didn’t have a fight, did you?”
Without missing a beat, Cooper replied, “Isn’t that what you’d want?”
Kitty shot him a glare, then laughed and admitted, “Yeah. As your competitor, I’d actually love it if you guys fought, hahaha…”
I couldn’t help but laugh. Kitty’s candidness somehow lessened my guilt towards her.
In the midst of our conversation, the elevator arrived.
At Russel’s engagement party, there were a lot of familiar faces, including Stella Wallace and others. But what I didn’t get was, why on earth would Russel and Chloe Invite Bonnie and Kate Aaron?
They were even seated next to Louis Aldridge and Malinda.
“Why did Russel Invite them? Isn’t he worried they’ll pollute the air here?” Stella walked over, rolling her eyes at Bonnie and speaking loudly.
Hearing her, Bonnie looked around. She instinctively scanned the room, and her eyes started sparkling when she didn’t see Nell
Just then, Neil arrived. The moment Bonnie saw him, she immediately put on her love-struck face.
But Neil was weird. The more a woman chased him, the more he seemed to detest her. And that was something I had experienced first-hand.
