Chapter 21
“Stella Wallace needs to see me.” That was the lie I made up.
When I arrived at the parking lot of the Orchid Hotel that night, Oscar was already beaten up.
A few thuggish men, fat, with cigarettes in their mouths, started to laugh when they saw me, “Is this your back up? A woman?”
“Did you bring her here to spend the night with us to compensate for your mistake?” Another guy said even more vulgarly,
I walked up to Oscar, helping him up. This young man was beaten up so badly that I could barely recognize him. The situation was terrible.
“Irene, I’m working part–time as a valet here, and I accidentally scratched their car. I said I could pay, but they want me to pay ten thousand dollars… but I don’t have that much money…” Oscar whispered to me about what happened.
“What car? Let me take a look.“Lasked.
Oscar pointed at a car not far away. Under the dim light, a small white car was parked there.
I couldn’t help but frown. This car is worth just over twenty thousand dollars, and Oscar has to pay half of it for a scratch, what kind of logic is this?
“So, lady, have you figured out how to compensate us?” |
“You’re so skinny, and your chest isn’t as big as mine, one night with me isn’t enough!”
Hearing their vulgar words, Oscar actually stood up, pointing at them with his bloody hand and said, “Cut the filthy talk! Do you dare to kill me..”
I was a bit surprised, are college students so brave these days?
I thought he called me just to hide behind me and wait for me to solve the problem pitifully.
Oscar’s courage obviously infuriated those fat guys, I stood in front of him, seriously said, “give me three minutes.”
After that, I made a phone call.
This is the parking lot of the Orchid Hotel, Oscar is working part–time at the hotel, so it should be the responsibility of the hotel manager to solve the problem, but the hotel people did not show up.
“Oh, are you calling for backup? Lady, we’re quite well–known in Rosemont, you can ask around, who doesn’t know me? If you call ten people, I’ll call a hundred, believe it or not?” The fat guy was smug, but I didn’t care about him at all.
They’re just scumbags. I hung up the phone and smiled.
Within three minutes, the general manager of the Orchid Hotel appeared in front of me, greeting me politely, “Ms. Finch, what brings you here?”
“My friend works part–time at your hotel and was beaten up by these guys. Do you know how to deal with it?” I asked calmly.
“What? Someone dares to bully Ms. Finch’s friend?!” The general manager immediately turned to the fat guys, “It’s you guys, right?”
The fat guys seemed a bit stunned. The Orchid Hotel is a five-star hotel, quite large in Rosemont, so they know they can’t afford to mess with it.
Sometimes, power is so effective that even the most violent people have to bow to it.
Those arrogant fat guys, although they didn’t know my real identity, under the deterrence of the hotel manager, they apologized to me respectfully and compensated for Oscar’s medical expenses.
As they were about to leave dejectedly, I spoke up, “Wait a minute.”
Then I turned to Oscar and said, “Go, slap each of them.”
“Irene…” Oscar was stunned, his bloodshot eyes filled with fear and hesitation. It was already good enough to get some medical expenses, he never thought about fighting back.
“What are you afraid of?” I pulled Oscar over to the fat guys, “watch me!”
After that, I gave one of the fat guys a hard slap, then proceeded to hit the other two as well. They were slapped so hard that their eyes were red, but they didn’t dare to fight back.
“You guys can go now.” My palm was numb and I was getting impatient, so I told them to leave
The parking lot quickly returned to peace. The hotel manager invited me for a drink, but I wasn’t interested in having a drink with a stranger at night, so declined.
And Oscar was completely stunned. From the moment I started to fight back, he seemed to have never recovered.
“Let’s go, I’ll take you to the hospital.” I naturally took Oscar’s hand and walked out of the parking lot, my car was parked here.
“Irene, I can go by myself!” Oscar quickly said.
“Shut up.” I glared at him on purpose.
On the way to the hospital, I chatted with Oscar and learned that his father had injured his foot a few days ago and was in the hospital, so he wanted to do more part–time jobs before school starts to try to make up his tuition.
The reason he chose to call me for help was because his intuition told him that I could help.
I suddenly understood why Bonnie Tueley would gradually fall for Neil in my past life, because, when faced with an unsolvable predicament, having someone who can easily solve the problem is touching, isn’t it?
No one can choose their birth, but they can choose shortcuts.
After helping Oscar with his wounds at the hospital, I dragged my tired body home. Staying up late is really exhausting.
Neil was sleeping on his side. After I took a shower, I crawled into bed, ready to get a good night’s sleep.
“Did you have fun?” Neil suddenly spoke, his voice a bit hoarse.
I had just closed my eyes and immediately opened them again, “Did I wake you up? Just bear with it for two more days, this won’t happen once your parents leave.”
“Irene Finch, don’t test my patience.” Neil saying this means he’s in a bad mood.
“What did I do wrong?” I was so tired that I didn’t want to guess.
“My parents are visiting Sterling Estates and you dare to go out late at night? Do you want to die?” Neil turned to face me, his eyes full of anger.
I stared at him for a few seconds, suddenly feeling guilty. Did he find out that I didn’t go to see Stella?
Right, Neil likes to play around, yet he’s been restraining himself these two days, but I’m even bolder than him. I went out in the middle of the night to help a male college student and even kindly accompanied him to the hospital for treatment.
“Okay, I get it, I can’t post it on social media, I can’t go out and have fun when your parents are visiting, I’ll be careful next time.” I summarized.
I was planning on getting some more sleep, but then Neil suddenly rolled over and landed on top of me. His arms were propped up on either side of my head, the lines of his muscles so damn attractive when he flexed them, plus his handsome face – it was like the perfect display of hormones.
I snapped awake right away and felt something was brushing against me.
“Neil, did someone slip something in your drink?” I remembered the last time he tricked me, the tiny spark of affection that had just started to grow within me had quickly died down. “Are you sure you know who I am?”
Neil was definitely not the type to be void of sexual desire, otherwise how could he always be the center of all these juicy rumors?
The anger in his eyes seemed to shift, his fingers slowly sliding off the strap of my nightgown.
When I felt a chill in my chest, I realized I might be underdressed.
However, Neil seemed unbothered and wanted to continue.
