Chapter 195 Key Evidence
Who is Ashley?!
The moment the words were spoken, a sudden hush fell over the room.
Even Ashley herself stood there, dumbfounded.
She thought. “I haven’t even said anything. Why am I being singled out?”
Investigation? What investigation? Is it about me?
Confused, Ashley wondered why she was being targeted, as she had been keeping a low profile recently and hadn’t done anything wrong.
She then glanced at the approaching guards, their armor glinting and emanating a sense of authority.
Leading them was a confident woman surveying the room.
“Ah, the leader… Isn’t she the officer close to Veronica of the Sherland Guardians?”
“Yeah, I remember her. Her name is Lois, isn’t it?”
“It’s Officer Lois!”
Seeing this, the guests around the room paid their respects.
www
But then they looked suspiciously at Ashley, wondering what she had done to be publicly called out by Officer Lois.
“Who is Ashley?”
After scanning the room, Lois’s eyes settled on Leones for a few seconds as if surprised to find him. there.
However, she wasn’t there for him today.
Leones was equally surprised. He didn’t expect Veronica’s officer to burst in.
And why was she specifically looking for Ashley?
He was just about to ask Ashley something when the Sherland Guardians caught her attention.
Why now, of all times, did she have to come and take the person he was going to question? Leones felt somewhat dissatisfied, but he waited quietly to see what she would do next.
Finally, Lois’s gaze fell on Ashley.
“Ashley!” Her husband, Jason, nudged her, bringing her back to reality.
“I… am Ashley,” She stepped forward. “What does officer…”
Just as Ashley tried to muster a smile, hoping to engage in some small talk, she was abruptly cut off by Lois, who sternly questioned, “Do you know Lancer Stone, also known as Lenny?”
Lenny?!
At the mention of the name, not only Ashley but also Timothy, standing nearby, were taken.
aback.
Before Ashley could respond, Timothy interjected, “Have you found the culprit behind Uncle Lenny’s death?
“Uncle Lenny was diligent in his work for the Bloom family. You must get to the bottom of this and avenge him!”
Upon hearing this, Ashley wished she could strangle her too–talkative son.
Anyone with a clear mind could see that the best move right now was to distance oneself from the situation. Even if you knew the person, it was better to claim not to be close.
Instead, Timothy had just referred to the man as Uncle Lenny, practically confessing a close relationship.
Even his father, Jason, let out a resigned sigh, looking at his son with an expression usually reserved for a foolish child, unsure what else to say.
Timothy, noticing the mood, suddenly realized he had misspoken.
Mainly because Lenny had been very loyal to him, doing many unmentionable deeds on his behalf. Their relationship was intense, akin to that between an uncle and nephew. Lenny’s death was a significant blow to Timothy. He hoped the authorities could investigate thoroughly and catch the murderer to avenge Uncle Lenny.
So, in the urgency of the moment, he had slipped up.
“Well, actually, it’s not a big deal,” Timothy said, “My mom doesn’t really know him…”
This addition only worsened the situation, like digging a deeper hole for himself. Even a fool wouldn’t believe him now.
“I do know him,” Ashley finally admitted. “But we haven’t been in contact recently. So, is there any progress in the investigation concerning his death?”
Even though she was well aware that Lois’s visit was not primarily about Lenny’s death but something else entirely, Ashley still tried to steer the conversation back.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Lois replied, pulling out an item of physical evidence. “Do you recognize this?”
It was a pair of pink diamonds, each quite large, like dragon eyes.
Under the room’s lighting, they gleamed brilliantly clearly of great value.
Upon seeing the diamonds, despite her best efforts to control her expression, Ashley couldn’t hide her reaction.
“This…”
Not only was Ashley shocked, but even Jason, standing next to her, was taken aback.
He was no stranger to those pink diamonds.
After all, he had bought them overseas as a wedding anniversary gift for him and his wife.
Later, when his wife seldom wore them and claimed they were lost, Jason felt quite heartbroken, given their high cost.
Yet, who would have thought that those pink diamonds would reappear as if they were stolen goods in the hands of the Sherland Guardians?
What in the world was happening? Was his wife keeping something from him? Were the diamonds not actually lost?
Indeed, Lois continued, “This diamond was found in the car driven during Lenny’s incident!”
What?!
At this revelation, Ashley was utterly stunned.
Meanwhile, her mind was racing, filled with fleeting images and regret. She mentally cursed
Lenny and his ancestors for being so foolish.
That’s because she had casually given the diamonds to Lenny, instructing him to get rid of them as soon as possible.
Yet, they had ignored her and kept the diamonds, perhaps as an investment.
But that very decision had exposed Ashley.
“That jerk!” Ashley took a deep breath and quickly explained, “They must have stolen my wedding anniversary diamonds.
“Honey, you remember I told you they were lost, right?”
Hearing this, Jason also chimed in. “Yes, yes, it must have been them who stole them. Man, what a relief to find them!”
The couple played off each other brilliantly, providing cover stories for one another.
“Oh, really?” Lois continued to inquire. “Do you remember when these diamonds were lost?”
“It’s been… about a year or two?” Ashley replied casually.
“That’s weird!” Lois hinted at something more while making her point again. “At the time of this incident, only one diamond was found in the car.
“And this other one was discovered in a car accident… five years ago!”
