Mason asked in a soft tone, “Did you lose trust in me because I didn’t help you win the case against Shawn, so that you’d rather seek help from an intern than ask
me?”
Celeste denied it immediately, “No, why would you think that? We didn’t lose the case. We just dropped it. You can’t blame yourself for that. Who could’ve predicted that Shawn and I weren’t blood–related?”
Mason looked hurt, “Then why are you avoiding me?”
Tm not avoiding you…” Celeste was at a loss for words. She couldn’t possibly say it was because Liam was jealous, could she?
She and Liam weren’t exactly on good terms right now. Even if they made up, she didn’t want to share too much with others.
“I just feel like the money you can get from my case is just peanuts compared to the divorce cases of those rich folks. I don’t want to hold you back from making your bread and butter. You’re helping me purely as a friend. I don’t want to be a constant hassle for you”
Mason replied, “I never considered your matters as hassles. I’ve always felt guilty for not being able to help you reclaim your mother’s heritage. If I could help with this, maybe it would alleviate some of the quilt. So could you not turn me away?”
Was this his pride as an excellent lawyer?
He couldn’t let go because he wasn’t willing to accept defeat?
Mason had already helped her a lot. She couldn’t say no to a friend who had been there for her in her lowest moments
