Chapter 746
“Why can’t I have some Lafite?”
Trisha shot him a glance and retorted, “The Lafite was an apology gift from you, why on earth do you think you get to drink it?”
Nicolas was dumbfounded.
His comeback was nowhere to be found.
Trisha placed the wine aside without opening it and started munching on her food.
Although she accepted his Lafite and seemingly forgave him, she didn’t utter a word to him throughout the meal.
Trisha was a chatterbox. Whenever she dined at his place in the past, she would go on and on about her work woes or the latest TV shows and anime she was hooked on.
In her own words, “If we’re not going to chat, what’s the point of eating together? We might as well eat separately.”
Nicolas was adopted into the J City high–class circle when he was 11 or 12. He was an outcast, far from the refined upbringing of the likes of Liam, who excelled both academically and in manners.
Stepping into this circle in J City for the first time, he felt like a mongrel among a pack of pedigreed dogs.
He was shunned and mocked.
He had to ditch the “low–class” habits he picked up living with his grandpa and put on a mask to fit into this circle because everyone was the same and he needed to be the same to not stand out.
He successfully integrated into the circle. Once he gained a solid footing in J City with the help of Nicolas Media Group, no one dared bring up his past. If anyone accidentally mentioned his “fishmonger background“, others would “kindly remind” them without him having to say a word.
They all assumed his humble beginnings were a forbidden topic for him.
He didn’t really care, but slowly, under their constant “reminders“, he started to feel alienated from his own background.
He was surrounded by young masters and misses from wealthy families. They were all so well–mannered and proper. Being around them, he had to first and foremost consider whether his actions would cause any disparity.
He had been in this circle for so long that he had slowly forgotten who he was.
Until he met Trisha.
She would cuss, and if you ticked her off, she wouldn’t hesitate to throw a punch. She was a messy eater with a mouth bigger than his. When there was only one piece of meat left on the plate, she would stop at nothing to snatch it for herself.
Her demeanor was nothing like the young masters and misses from wealthy families. But being with her, he seemed to have found a part of himself that he had lost a long time ago. He felt extremely relaxed while doing anything with her.
He didn’t have to worry about being judged for asking for a doggie bag at a restaurant.
Trisha not only didn’t find it problematic, but she also praised him for being thrifty.
He didn’t have to worry about being accused of having no taste for wearing cheap stuff he liked.
Trisha would say, “Share the link with me; let’s buy it together. We can’t let good things go to others.”
