Celeste was reluctant. Skyler’s friends were all rich, and she had never been good at dealing with them. So she didn’t want to go and made an excuse, “Isn’t Kaylee at home? She’s better at talking to these ladies than I am. I’m not good with words and might make things awkward.”
“Kaylee went out with friends, or I wouldn’t have asked you. You’ll have to deal with them when you go out with Liam in the future. You can’t refuse every time, or people will think the Reed family’s daughter-in-law isn’t presentable.”
Celeste didn’t say anything.
“Get ready and come over as soon as you can.”
After saying that, Skyler hung up the phone,
With no choice. Celeste had to get ready and head to Skyler’s house.
Skyler had been a socialite in J City when she was young. After marrying into the Reed family and as they became more famous, her position in the celebrity circle has been consolidated. She often invited some wives of the Reed family’s business partners to gatherings. On the surface, it was to make more friends, but the real purpose was to exchange information.
Some things that men couldn’t openly talk about, women liked to discuss privately.
Around 10 am, three ladies arrived Mrs Garber and Mrs. Kelley were familiar to Celeste, but Mrs. Meyer was a stranger.
Judging by her attire, Mrs. Meyer shew no difference from the other two ladies, but when she spoke, Celeste felt that Mrs. Meyer was more dominant. Mrs. Garber and Mrs. Kelley were always giving in, and even Skyler was more intimate with her than with the others. As Celeste brought the fruit, Mrs. Meyer glanced at her and said leisurely, “Skyler, this is your daughter-in-law, right? She’s quite pretty”
Skyler smiled faintly without responding.
Celeste put the things down and then left.
Mrs. Kelley waited for her to leave before asking. “Skyler, did you get that medicine? Do you think it helped?”
“I’m not sure.”
“How many doctors have you guys found for her now? She should be pregnant soon, right? Is there something wrong with her body?” Skyler, with her eyes down, calmly said, “As far as I know, her medical report shows that there’s nothing wrong with her. I don’t know why she hasn’t gotten pregnant yet”
“That’s really weird! Could she be cursed or something?”
Mrs. Garber chimed in, “Seriously, from upbringing to family background, which part of her is a match for the Reed family? I really don’t know what the Old Lady sees in her”
“I heard that she and her mom were in a car accident years ago. The passenger in the front seat was seriously injured. But she was sitting in the front seat and was totally fine, not a scratch on her. Her mom, on the other hand, ended up in a vegetative state. Don’t you guys find that strange?”
