Chapter 396
Celeste walked upstairs to the rooftop while holding her phone, then answered the call.
“Celeste, why are you answering my call now? Didn’t you see the message I’ve sent you last night?”
“I saw it.”
Celeste said in a faint voice
Shawn frowned. “Then why didn’t you call me back?”
“Dad, you called me in the middle of the night because I hit Angel, right?”
Shawn was choked and didn’t expect Celeste to be so direct.
He said. “You guys never fought when you were kids. What happened to make you hit Angel like that?”
“Didn’t Angel tell you?”
“She said Liam was drunk, and she helped him up. You got upset about that. Do you think it’s worth it? Liam is her brother-in-law. How could she have any improper thoughts about him?”
Celeste laughed, “Just helping him up? Is that what Angel told you?”
Shawn felt uncomfortable when he heard her sneer because it was too similar to her mother Caitlyn’s tone.
“Then you tell me what happened”
Celeste put away her smile, “Do you still remember the rabbit I raised when I was young?”
Shawn frowned, not able to recall it clearly.
“On my birthday, a classmate gave me a rabbit. Angel liked and wanted it, but I didn’t want to give it to her. When I was not at home, you let the rabbit out for her to play with, and in the end, it was hit and killed on the road,”
Shawn vaguely remembered that it seemed to have happened. He couldn’t remember the details, but he only remembered that Celeste picking up the dead rabbit with swollen eyes from crying
“Throughout my whole life, as long as Angel wanted something, you gave it to her, even if it was mine.”
Shawn’s face changed, and his tone softened, “It was indeed my mistake, but it wasn’t intentional. The rabbit was running around, how could a child keep an eye on it?”
“Yeah, she was young then, so I let her have her way. But now she’s 23. Is she still young? Liam was drunk, so she stripped and climbed into his bed. What is Angel thinking? Does she think I don’t know? And you’re questioning me why I hit her? What kind of person is she? An adopted wild child! Who is she to covet my things?”
Shawn’s face changed, “Who are you calling a wild child?”
Celeste sneered, “If she’s not a wild child, then what is she? What kind of child from a normal family would be abandoned in an orphanage? We took her in, do we owe her something? Or do you think she’s more important than your biological daughter in your heart?”
Shawn’s face was full of embarrassment, and Celeste kept implying Angel had a bad background. But he couldn’t deny the fact.
He grew angry and said indignantly, “You two grew up together. Don’t you think your words a bit harsh? And how could Angel possibly do
something improper? Even if you saw it, how could you determine that it wasn’t Liam who started it? There’s such a big difference in strength between men and women. If Liam forced her, could she resist?”
Celeste was almost amused by his words.
