“Dad,” Liam interrupted with a straight face, “Let Grandpa David decide whether to forgive her or not.”
Shawn paused and then said awkwardly, “Of course.”
Everyone looked at David, whose expression remained calm. He said to Shawn, “Return the card to Skyler.”
Skyler hurriedly said, “This is our compensation.”
Observing the situation, Latonia swiftly interjected, “Dad, if it weren’t for her daughter, you wouldn’t have sustained any injuries. The hospital expenses and costs for your recovery should be their responsibility.”
David glanced at his daughter–in–law and said, “I didn’t hurt. There’s no reason to take their compensation. Isn’t this just extortion?” He then looked at Shawn, “Return their card.”
Having spoken, and the people around witnessing it, Shawn couldn’t say much and had to return the card to Skyler.
Skyler frowned, “You can also make other requests.”
David waved his hand, “I heard the apology, now you can leave here.”
Shawn, fearing offending Skyler, whispered to David, “Grandpa, they just arrived.”
The old man didn’t care, frowning and saying, “There’s no room in the hospital ward, and they’re all crowded around me. I can’t breathe. I might not die from a fall, but I’ll suffocate.”
Shawn was at a loss for words.
Skyler’s face darkened as her visit ended with a cold farewell. This old fellow really didn’t give her any face.
She sternly said, “In that case, we won’t bother any longer. Kaylee, let’s go.”
Kaylee quickly broke free from the bodyguards‘ restraints and followed Skyler out.
Shawn hastily went after them, “I’ll see you out.”
Latonia also took the opportunity to secretly follow.
One by one, people left the sick room, until finally, only Liam and Celeste remained.
David beckoned Celeste, “Letti, I’m hungry. Could you go out and get me some meat sauce noodles?”
Celeste looked at Liam, understanding that Grandpa David had something to say to him.
After Celeste left, David turned pale and leaned against the hospital bed, whispering, “Young Reed, help me turn over.”
Liam hurried forward, holding David and turning him over. At this point, the blanket was lifted, and a large bloodstain made Liam’s hand tremble.
When Celeste returned to the hospital with the meat sauce noodles she had bought, she bumped into Kaylee in the lobby.
She was looking down at her phone, smiling, with no sense of guilt or regret for her wrongdoings.
Thinking of her weak grandfather lying on the bed, Celeste clenched her fists and walked over.
Her gaze was so intense that Kaylee finally noticed her.
Kaylee put away her phone and glanced at Celeste. Seeing the meat sauce noodles in her hand, she laughed, “Is he still able to eat after that fall? Is the hospital stay just for show?”
Celeste didn’t respond and went straight to the elevator.
Kaylee let out a chuckle, her voice tinged with sarcasm. “I thought you were all so superior and proud, but here you are, running after a card. Even that old man has better manners than you, knowing when to step back. My brother even suggested that I apologize. But let me ask you, the esteemed Campbell family, is an apology truly what you seek? Or is it money? Quite amusing, I must say.”
