Kaylee jumped in fright.
She’d never seen Skyler so mad before. She stuttered for a moment before saying, “I didn’t… I just think Uncle Clyde has been pretty good to us.” Skyler realized her reaction was a bit too much and took a deep breath to calm down. “Don’t blindly trust people who do good things without a reason. Think more.”
Kaylee thought to herself: what could Uncle Clyde get from treating her well? Mom always considered Uncle Clyde’s family as enemies.
Of course, she didn’t dare to say that out loud. Skyler had a strong animosity towards Valeria and Clyde.
However, deep down in her heart, Celeste acknowledged that Uncle Clyde had actually been quite kind to their family. When she was younger, he would always bring gifts for her and her siblings whenever he returned from a business trip. Even the New Year’s money he gave her exceeded what her brothers received.
Losing her father at a young age, Clyde filled the role of a father figure in her heart. She instinctively wanted to get closer to him, but Skyler was strongly against it.
She didn’t dare to argue and just obediently replied, “Okay, Mom.”
Once the atmosphere in the car eased a bit, Skyler said, “Later, go visit Liam and bring those medicines to Celeste.”
Kaylee frowned, “I don’t want to. I hope she can’t get pregnant. Grandma already loves her so much. If she has Liam’s baby, Grandma will like her more. It’s better if she can’t get pregnant in her whole life!”
“You go where I tell you to go. Are you still expecting me to propose your marriage to Mason in front of Grandma?”
Kaylee’s eyes lit up, “Have you talked to Grandma about it?”
“I mentioned it briefly. As long as the Fletcher family agrees, Grandma has no objections.”
“I’m sure Mrs. Fletcher likes me. She’s been fond of me since I was a child.” Kaylee was pretty confident about this. She had been showing her affection for Mason for years and no one was more suitable for him than her due to the two families‘ relationships.
“Don’t get too ahead of yourself. Mason’s opinion still holds significant weight. After his illness, his family became incredibly doting towards him, so if he doesn’t want to marry, no one can force him,” Valeria cautioned, emphasizing the importance of Mason’s decision.
Kaylee wasn’t worried.
Mason was a dutiful son, well known in the upper–class circle. As long as the Fletcher family’s elders agreed, her marriage to Mason was a done deal, right?
Being her mother, Skyler could easily read Kaylee’s thoughts.
She said, “Pay more attention to Mason. You need to make him take the initiative so you won’t be wronged after marrying into his family.”
Kaylee teased, “Mom, you have some experience in this field, huh? Is that how you pursued my dad back then?”
Skyler paused, lips pursed, and said, “Don’t talk nonsense. Just get the medicine to Celeste.”
Kaylee pouted, “Okay, I got it.”
On the other hand, after getting in the car, Valeria started talking to Clyde about today’s events.
From Celeste to Skyler, she couldn’t help but laugh at the memory of Skyler’s face when grandma chose Celeste.
