But Celeste knew that a custom cake like this, specially shaped and all, wouldn’t come cheap
When it was Liam’s birthday, she had initially planned to order a cake shaped like the first generation Luna robot. But after asking about the price, she thought it was too expensive and ended up choosing a black swan cake instead.
The black swan cake was pretty expensive too, but considering it was Liam’s birthday, she thought it was worth the splurge. After all, earning money wasn’t easy for him either
Looking at Clair’s cake now, she suddenly felt like she was the epitome of frugality.
Clair made her wish, blew out the candles, and applause filled the room.
Steven had planned on recording everything with his phone, but his phone rang. So he asked a friend to record for him while he answered the call
After the ceremony, a young lady suddenly suggested, “Let’s play the scarf toss game. Whoever the scarf lands on will be the first dance partner of the day”
Celeste was puzzled and turned to Trisha, “What’s this game?”
Trisha scoffed, “Clearly, she’s got her eyes on someone and is using this game as an excuse to get her friends to help her set things up.”
“No way, isn’t that a bit too obvious and low–level?”
As it turned out, no one cared about being low–level as long as it worked.
Clair had tried to decline but couldn’t resist her friend’s enthusiasm. So she placed a preserved flower in the scarf, glanced at the crowd, and began to
toss it
Some of the men reached forward to catch it, while others ducked to avoid it.
Liam had just managed to extricate himself from the crowd and was about to find Celeste when the scarf flew straight at his face. He instinctively reached out and caught it.
Everyone turned and saw Liam, still in his turn–around pose, holding the scarf
Liam fell silent
“Wow, it’s Liam Reed!”
“Oh my god, talk about fate.”
“I heard they’ve known each other since they were kids. If this isn’t meant to be, I don’t know what is.”
“Good thing he’s divorced. Otherwise, this would be a bit awkward.”
“Exactly, his divorce just made room for a new romance. They’re both attractive and come from similar backgrounds.”
Liam looked stern.
He turned to look at Celeste, but she was already ignoring him out of anger.
Clair walked through the crowd to Liam, her eyes sparkling, her voice soft, “Liam, did you catch it?”
Liam expressionlessly handed the scarf to Nicolas next to him, “My friend has been wanting to ask you for a dance. I caught it for him.”
Nicolas was at a loss for words.
Damn, always push him in front when things go south but never treat him well otherwise.
Although annoyed, Nicolas was a loyal friend. Considering Clair’s relationship with the Garcia family and with Celeste, he thought he should help snuff out Clair’s crush on Liam as soon as possible. Otherwise, if both Garcia’s family daughters developed a liking for Liam, they would be even more hostile towards him.
So he took the handkerchief, smiled, and said, “I’ve long heard of your good reputation, and it’s an honor to have the opportunity to dance with you.”
After he finished speaking, he extended his hand in an inviting gesture.
Clair’s expression stiffened for a moment.
A young lady nearby commented, “Shouldn’t the one who caught the scarf be the one to dance? How does catching it for someone else work? Is Mr. Reed looking down on Clair?”
