Helen was really wound up.
That jerk Shawn had blocked her bank card and stripped her position in the company, leaving her unable to withdraw any funds from the company account.
Although she still had some assets from small investments made with other wives, most of them were not profitable. They were more for socializing and networking purposes.
The kindergarten was her main source of income, and she wouldn’t let it go easily.
“Is her property deed legit?” Helen asked her daughter.
“With a stamp of approval and publicly posted online, do you think she’d dare to forge it?” Angel replied irritably.
Thinking about how she had jeopardized her long–established account because of Helen’s issues made Angel complain, “You had me post the news without understanding the situation. It’s unbearable!”
Ever since the exposure of Jacques Campbell not being Shawn’s son, Helen had noticed that Angel’s patience with her had noticeably waned. She knew exactly what her own daughter was thinking.
Did she think that without her brother, she’d become the sole heir?
How naive!
“If I could figure everything out, what would I need you for?” Helen retorted sternly.
Angel stayed silent, brooding.
Helen said coldly, “Don’t think that without Jacques, the Campbell family fortune will fall into your lap. I know your father better than you do. He’s always wanted a son, and now his mistress is carrying one. Even if she can’t give birth, believe it or not, he’d rather adopt a nephew and hand the Campbell family fortune to him than to you”
Angel was taken aback, instinctively denying. “That’s impossible!”
Helen scoffed, “You’ll be married off eventually. Do you really think he’d let you take the Campbell family fortune with you? If he truly cared for you, why wouldn’t he let you join the company and instead encourage you to find work elsewhere?”
You should think about that. Even if Jacques inherits the Campbell family fortune, even if he ends up being useless, you’d still get your share. But if an outsider takes over, you’ll have nothing to do with the Campbell family! Can you guarantee that your future husband will always be faithful and never divorce you? If you can’t, how will you make it in high society without the backing of the Campbell family?”
These words started to shake Angel
Helen sighed, “Why do you think I insisted on having Jacques? I did it all for you. I know what your father is like. That’s why I wanted to have a son. If he had your future in mind, why would I go to such lengths? Do you think I don’t care about my dignity at my age?”
Angel couldn’t respond to that. While this might be convincing for outsiders, Angel knew that Helen was a mistress who had climbed her way up. How could she say something like that?
Of course, she didn’t dare to argue. But she did think that Helen made a lot of sense
Helen had once again reassured her, “I saved some of your father’s sperm at the hospital. If I can’t have a child, I can find someone to be artificially inseminated. Your father has always wanted a son, hasn’t he? No matter who gives birth to him, as long as he’s adopted by me, we can maintain our current lifestyle. When your father passes away, you’ll still have a say in how the fortune is distributed”
After hearing Helen’s words, Angel felt a lot better.
