Liam nearly burst into laughter as he feigned indifference, shooting Celeste a cold glance before grumbling, “I’d rather you be cute, not insane.”
The corner of Celeste’s mouth twitched, “Liam, don’t push it!”
Liam quickly pinpointed his source of complaint, “You can’t tolerate me for a minute, but you’re endlessly patient with him. Last time at the races, I fell harder than he did. Yet you ran off with him. Don’t you think you’re a bit too considerate of him?”
Celeste was taken aback, “Weren’t you already up and walking?”
Liam immediately played the victim, “I dislocated my arm! He only got a minor scrape. By the time you guys got to the clinic, his wound was already scabbing over!*
Celeste asked, “Why didn’t you say anything then?”
A forgotten incident resurrected by Celeste’s question, amplifying Liam’s sense of injustice. “You started blaming me as soon as you arrived, accusing me of bringing him to the races and pinning all the responsibility on me How was I supposed to speak up?” Liam looked down, “You despised me so much back then, and you wouldn’t have cared if I said anything”
Celeste gaped, struggling to find words. “I truly didn’t know you were injured, but my reprimand wasn’t solely because Mason got hurt”
When Liam fell off the horse, her heart nearly stopped until she saw him get up and walk towards them. She sighed in relief. Her anger towards Liam was partly due to fear of him getting hurt and partly due to her annoyance at still caring about Liam’s feelings after their divorce. These conflicting emotions made it impossible for her to control her reproach towards him.

Celeste was speechless. She hadn’t intended to apologize, and this wasn’t entirely her fault.
“Don’t be so friendly with him next time.” Liam said.
Celeste replied, “Should I avoid him next time we meet?”
Liam nodded. “That would be best”
Celeste lightly hit him. “Have your little jealous fit then I didn’t feel anything special to him. I just feel sorry for him.” Celeste paused, “Do you know about his burns? Large areas of his body are scarred.”
Liam froze. his expression changing slightly as he asked in a low voice, “How do you know about his injuries?”
Celeste blurted out, “He showed me.”
Liam’s face darkened, he gritted his teeth, “He showed you? Did he strip in front of you?”
Celeste twitched her mouth in disgust, “What are you thinking? Didn’t we bring Grandpa David to the cruise ship before?” Celeste hesitated. “I saw it when he rolled up his sleeves to wash his hands.”
Liam caught the hesitation in her words and sneered, “You saw it when he rolled up his sleeves to make pasta, didn’t you?”
Celeste ignored Liam’s jealousy and continued, “He’s so young, with burn scars all over his body, suffers from migraines. And you told me he watched his little brother die when he was young. I think he’s pitiful, but he’s so positive and gentle. I feel guilty for a long time if I even speak harshly to him. How could I possibly lash out at him?”
