Chapter 233
The snow was heavy, and the place where Drake rolled down last night was covered with another layer of snow, hiding the rugged rocks underneath.
“What should we do now?” Jane asked.
Although she had a little experience in wilderness survival, it couldn’t compare to Drake’s experience in the special forces.
“I’ll climb up first and then lower a rope for you to pull yourself up,” Drake quickly came up with a plan.
“Will it be dangerous?” Jane looked at the not–so–high but steep slope with some concern.
“It will be fine. I’ll make sure to get you out of here safely,” Drake replied firmly.
Hearing his words, Jane stopped saying anything more. Fortunately, Drake successfully climbed up without any problems and then lowered the rope.
With the help of the rope and Drake’s pulling, Jane also managed to climb up successfully.
Afterwards, they relied on Drake’s sense of direction and headed towards the mountain village.
Halfway through their journey, they encountered a search and rescue team heading up the mountain as well as villagers who had gone up with Drake yesterday evening.
The group safely returned to the village. Jane was already freezing so she immediately went back to stay at a villager’s house. After taking a hot shower and eating something warm, she felt slightly better.
After spending a day adjusting in the mountain village, the next day, Drake took Jane back to Silverbourne City.
When Courtney learned that both of them were safe, she went to the airport pick them up in person.
Seeing Mrs Philips personally coming to pick her up made Jane feel somewhat uncomfortable. After getting into the car though, the stern–faced Mrs Philips took the initiative and brought up the
incident.
“This is partly my fault. I wanted Drake to see your importance, but I didn’t expect that it would almost put you in danger.”
Although Courtney’s original plan was for Jane to stay in the mountain village for a few days and then inform Drake about her accident, and then letting him go and save her, she didn’t expect Jane to actually get into trouble.
Fortunately, she was safe now. Otherwise, she wouldn’t know what to do.
“Madam, this is not your fault,” Jane dismissed Courtney’s concerns.
She also knew that Courtney did all of this to make Drake realize his feelings for her. However, even if it proved that Drake cared more about her, it wouldn’t make her forgive him completely all at once.
After a sigh, Courtney speaks “Although things didn’t turn out as planned, it wasn’t completely useless. At least it proves that Drake truly cares about you. Jane, can you consider staying?”
She looked at Jane with eager eyes and waited for her response.
Jane paused for a moment and didn’t immediately answer Courtney’s question. She simply said,”

Ma’am You can’t force matters of the heart; sometimes it’s better to let nature take its course.”
Hearing this response Courtney clearly seemed disappointed. But as long as Jane stayed and didn’t take away their grandchildren,She couldn’t be bothered by their emotional entanglements.
Just then Drake’s phone which had been off began to ring after being turned on,attracting both of their attention.
Courtney noticed the caller ID was from Annie and immediately her face darkened.
“Her leg isn’t seriously injured. Dr. Harrington said with proper rest, it’ll recover completely in half a year. Don’t let her deceive you,” Courtney said with displeasure.
After Drake left, Annie started bombarding him with phone calls, and after Courtney learned about Annie’s situation and found out that there was nothing wrong with her leg, her impression of Annie worsened.
She had previously used her leg injury to threaten Drake into taking care of her, but now that it was confirmed her leg was fine, she couldn’t trap him any longer.
Upon hearing his mother’s words, Drake looked at the incoming call display intently and then answered the call, putting it on speakerphone.
On the other end of the phone, Annie’s voice immediately came through, with a cautious gentleness.
“Drake, I heard you’re back. How is Jane?”
Hearing Annie speak these words showing concern for Jane caught them all off guard. They didn’t expect to hear such from Annie at all.
Before Drake could speak, Courtney his phone away from him and coldly said to Annie over the phone,
“You’ve already lost; don’t bother Drake anymore.”
Upon hearing Courtney’s voice coming through the phone, Annie remained silent for a moment as if calming herself down.
“Ma’am, I don’t have any other intentions. I just want to ask if Miss Jane has been injured and how serious it is.”
“Hmph, you don’t need to worry about those things.” Courtney said coldly.
“Well, since you say so, I won’t ask anymore. I will keep my promise and won’t bother Drake again.” On the phone, Annie’s voice came through softly.
Hearing Annie’s words, everyone was even more surprised. They didn’t expect that she would really choose to give up.
Before they could recover from their surprise, a scream came through the phone and in the distance, they heard the voice of Annie’s mother, Mildred.
“Annie, what are you doing? Come down quickly! Don’t do anything rash!”
Listening to this, the expressions on everyone’s faces changed slightly. They could already imagine what was happening on the other end of the phone. Annie was probably in a dangerous place.
And most likely, it was on the rooftop of a hospital building!
“Annie, come down quickly! Don’t be impulsive…” The sound of Mildred’s voice got closer. At the

same time, there were also faint voices coming from Annie.
“Mom, don’t come over. If you come over, I’ll jump off from here immediately.”
“Okay… Mom won’t come over. Don’t be impulsive…”
“Drake!” Annie’s voice came through the phone again, different from her emotional conversation with her mother, her tone now carrying a faint sense of sorrow.
“Drake, I know I’ve lost, and you no longer love me. No matter what I do, you won’t stay by my side anymore.”
“Rest assured, I won’t pester you anymore.”
With these words, Annie seemed to have used up all her strength.
“Drake, farewell!” As the last words fell, the phone was filled with the frantic voice of Annie’s mother.
“Ah, Annie, no!”
The voice gradually drifted away, leaving only the rustling sound of the wind in the phone. Finally, with a loud bang, the call was disconnected.
Jane’s heart trembled uncontrollably with this realization. She couldn’t believe that Annie would truly be so determined as to use jumping off a building to prove her feelings.
Jane’s heart was filled with mixed feelings, not knowing what to do. Courtney, too, fell silent, not revealing her thoughts. Drake, after contemplation, calmly instructed the driver, “Go to the hospital.”
Immediately, the driver turned the car around and headed directly to the hospital. Jane didn’t stop him because the incident had been too significant, and she also wanted to confirm if Annie had really jumped off the building.
If she had really jumped because of Drake, what should she do next?
