Luna Reborn by Juliet Swanson Chapter 72

Chapter 72

My father then clenched his jaw before he eventually nodded his head slightly to me as he said, “I’ll do everything I can. So, don’t worry.”

I couldn’t help but sigh in relief. At least, one person wanted to help me. I felt as if I was going crazy as I was the only one who understood just how critical our whole situation was. Especially if Isabella did work with those rogues.

I exhaled in relief. At least one person would help. I felt like I was going insane being the only person who understood just how dire our situation was. Especially if she was working with the rogues. Who knew what she was actually capable of? I shakily nodded my head and let go of his arm reluctantly.

“You seem tired, Winona. Go back to our home to get a bit of a rest,” my father advised me.

“Right. Yeah, I will,” I mumbled.

Since there was nothing else that I could do here and this was an order, I eventually went back to my home. It might be okay if I rested for a while, right? However, I realized that I became even more restless when I arrived at home. In fact, I found it hard to stay still while I was waiting for my father to tell me about what happened. So, I kept pacing by the stairs as I often kept gazing at the front door as if my stares would miraculously speed up time until my dad returned.

Nevertheless, I felt that I had to do something. Anything. I couldn’t just stand idly waiting. In fact, I couldn’t really stand

around until Isabella moved again. Did she try to play

Benjamin’s heart next? Was this the part where she eventually tried to win his heart over to make him then turn against me? But would Benjamin really do that to me in this timeline?

After all, we went very far that made things go differently in this timeline. In fact, both Benjamin and I could be equals in our contribution to the pack instead of being enemies. That man had shown so much respect to me ever since I had become the Beta’s heir. So, I found it very hard to believe that he wouldn’t even trust me when I told him that Isabella was dangerous to me now.

However, I knew that I wouldn’t stand by to just accept if the worst-case scenario did happen by Benjamin becoming the past version of him. With all the training and hard work that h had, it wasn’t for nothing. I wasn’t scared to stand up for myself against him any longer. This time, I wasn’t scared to fight back.

“Winona,” a voice suddenly came from the door.

Somehow I had been concentrating so hard that I hadn’t even heard that the front door was open. My father stood there with a serious expression on his face that I couldn’t read.

“How did it go?” I asked without even greeting him.

I could feel that my heart was beating very fast over whatever he would say to me.

“Well,” he started as he cleared his throat.

“Well, she is taken to the hospital to be checked on her injuries.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.

“Why would a prisoner be given any access to our pack’s hospital? Couldn’t they just treat her sore ankle from inside her cell?”

However, my father didn’t accept my humor well as he averted his gaze.

“Father?” I asked him pressingly.

Somehow, I could sense that something went wrong here.

“It’s just until they bring her to the cells, right? For further interrogation?”

The man just sighed.

“Winona-”

That was the tone I knew of. It was the tone that my father used when he would say something hard.

“No!” I cut him off as I was almost in disbelief.

Slowly, I stepped away from my father.

“No, don’t tell me that they’re treating her as a victim of the rogues’ attack!”

“Winona, there wasn’t any evide-”

“No!” I shouted.

“No, she murdered Ava! Fuck it, she killed me too, father! Yet, you couldn’t even put her in handcuffs? Do you really not care about it?”

“Enough!” he shouted at my behavior angrily.

“There isn’t any evidence that she’s involved, Winona. You also know about it! Except you want to come forward and tell the entire council about your past, then we’ll have to find out about something else.”

“You know that I can’t do that, father! They’ll think that I’m crazy and will lock me up!”

“Then, this will be the best you can ever get!” my father said angrily as he rubbed his face frustratedly.

“So, it ended up just like that? We’ll just let her wander into our pack to do whatever the hell she wants?”

“No, no, obviously not,” he replied with a voice that almost sounded like he was scolding me.

“Don’t be an idiot. She’ll be under the surveillance of a warrior when she is being treated.”

“Idiot? Did you just call me an idiot?” I asked as I scoffed.

“Well, I’m not the one who lets a fucking killer to get a first- class medical treatment in our own pack. At least, just admit that you messed up here!”

“What the heck did you want me to do, Winona?!” My father snapped back as he walked toward me.

“Huh? If you think they’ll lock you up for saying you were brought back to life, what do you think they’ll do to me when I start going against common sense here? What do you think they’ll do to me when I imprison a girl who is currently being seen as a victim? It’s not only me, what about your mother?”

“From what I can see, you’re no longer in any danger as long as she’s being watched. But, we, your family, aren’t able to afford it if I act out, Winona.”

“I can’t believe that you truly think that I’m no longer in danger even if she’s breathing, regardless of wherever she is. It’s like you who didn’t even listen to me when I told you about what happened in the past. She’s a fucking killer, father! Her influence is way deeper than doing that herself. She didn’t need the sword in her hand last time because she killed me with her words.”

“Did you even hear what I just said? Both my behavior and actions affect more than just you, Winona. Don’t you care about what’ll happen to your mother and I? We can find a solution for this, but you must keep your head cool first. So, stop thinking about yourself and look at this problem constructively.”

“So, you’re just saying that I’m selfish?” I slowly summed up with a sarcastic tone in my voice.

“Fine! Sure! I’m really selfish. Well, I’m sorry for that. I’m sorry for acting out passionately so that the rest of us won’t die!”

“I’m not doing this right now,” my father finally said, feeling defeated.

“You’ve had a traumatic day. You even had to bury someone you loved. Something I really am sorry that you had to experience. I’ll ignore every hurtful thing you’ve said to me and think of your irrational behavior right now as your way of dealing with your grief!”

When I tried to open my mouth to speak, my father held his hand up to stop me from speaking.

“I must meet Leo right now. He’s already waiting for me and I’ m already late. Just… keep yourself calm, Winona. You’re smarter than this.”

My father then left me who angrily looked at the closed door where he had just stood. My eyes were still throwing dagger as if my father could somehow feel my angry glare from the other side. Indeed, I completely got it how sometimes I would do things for my own best interest. I could even comprehend that these decisions led me to fatal mistakes, like in Ava’s

case.

However, pushing to make Isabella die wasn’t one of things that I would consider myself to be selfish for. I didn’t only do this for myself, but I did it for all of us. Although I still didn’t know exactly what would cause the complete massacre of our kind, I knew that it was logical for me to trust that stopping Isabella was a must for that plan because the massacre would happen only when I died.

Besides, I wouldn’t even stay with Benjamin this long like the one I did in the past if I was truly selfish. I just wanted to help my pack. If I was being truly selfish, I knew that I wouldn’t even choose to come back to life and put myself at risk of reliving that nightmare like this just to save anyone. If I was indeed being a selfish girl, I wouldn’t have to work tirelessly every single day since I was brought back alive to change the people around me and their old traditions wherever possible in order to prevent the future. If I was truly being selfish, I wouldn’t have… I wouldn’t have ….

Then, a thought came to me. If I was going to be labeled as a

selfish girl, then why did it really matter? After that, I walked out the door because I already knew exactly what I wanted to

“Kiss me,” I told that person.

“What?”
