Luna Reborn by Juliet Swanson Chapter 60

Chapter 60

“That was so stupid of you to go there all alone,” my mother scolded me as she did a check-up on me.

Based on the protocol, I had been sent to a hospital as both Benjamin and I had finally finished giving our report to the patrol team. This had to be done whether I was actually hurt or not. It was more of a paperwork formality.

However, I just turned my head away with defiance as I told my mother, “You can’t keep saying that all the time, you know? Now, I have a job and a responsibility to the pack. If both Benjamin and I hadn’t entered that cave, we might have missed our only chance at getting the truth. Besides, the report only told us one rogue was spotted. It wasn’t 30. I didn’ t even know that rogues could group together like that.”

My mother just grabbed me by the chin as she forced me to look at her while she said, “Being responsible for the pack because of a job doesn’t mean that you have to die for them.”

Her words really hit my sensitive spot because of what I only did that once. Did she know? Did my father end up revealing my past? Personally, I would avoid telling my mother the truth because I didn’t want to upset her. After all, my mother was killed in my past timeline.

Actually, I wouldn’t mind if she knew the truth. However, her facial expression was more of a concerned mother instead of someone who knew about my history. Her worry did make me realize that things could go differently in the past, though. Would I try to run away sooner if my mother was still alive?

Would she have tried to rescue me?

Then, I sighed as I pulled my face away before I uttered, “I’m sorry for this.”

While her words did make me recall my own past, it also made me remember what I had seen in the cave before.

“By the way…, “I told her as I thought hard.

“Mom, do you know where I can find Doctor Andrews?”

But my mother just frowned as she asked back, “Doctor Andrews? I’m not sure if there’s a doctor that goes by that name.”

When I heard the words I didn’t want to hear, my chest became tighter. It was true, then. The doctor wasn’t employed here. Yet, he would have to set up his career well at the Lock Heart Pack if he wanted to become a head doctor. There wouldn’t be any way to be a head doctor within next year without any solid experience. Something was seriously off. I really needed more answers.

That night, I went to Lily to ask her to contact the private investigator. I really had to know how Isabella could show up within our territory without the investigator knowing about it, how that girl was able to find me, and I also needed any information he could find about Doctor Clive Andrews.

Not only that, I had to know whether the doctor was still alive or not and living in another territory or not. If not, it might be able to help me to come in peace with what I thought I had seen in that cave. Or, perhaps, Doctor Andrews being a rogue could be true. Did I change something so drastically in this timeline that the doctor became a rogue? Or was it that he

had always been a rogue from the past timeline, but nobody ever knew about it? By that logic, Clive Andrews might also not be his real name.

Besides, this opportunity might be the private investigator’s last chance because his result was so unsatisfactory. In fact, I even considered that it was now time for me to get a different investigator. This investigator that I had chosen let Isabella stroll right across the border without even being realized by that investigator. So, what had I been paying him the last two years for?

Even though I tried not to think about that, I also wondered if Isabella might somehow manipulate my investigator to betray me. Did he actually play me as a double agent this entire

time? Perhaps, this was time for me to meet him in person to get the answers from him myself.

In the meantime though, I decided to just do my best to brush everything aside as I waited the few days it would take for Lily to report back to me. Well, everything, except one thing.

“What did he say to you?” Ava asked, but her mouth was totally agape.

I could also hear her fork dropped to her plate loudly because of how shocked she was. Indeed, I had made up my mind by meeting with Ava a couple days after the cave incident in order to, hopefully, clear at least some of my more dilemmatic thinking. I really needed someone else to say yes to me that Bash just acted immature. So, what he was actually saying was ridiculous. Thus, I told Ava everything that happened for the first two days Bash had come back.

“He said that he had stopped messing around and tried to tell

me again that he … had a crush on me. Like really have a real crush. Allegedly.”

I kept looking down at my food as I didn’t want to meet Ava’s eyes during this embarrassing conversation topic.

“So, what did you say?” she asked so loudly that she almost yelled.

After that, I looked around to see some people were now looking at both Ava and I.

“Huss! Ava, people are staring at us,” I told her as I pointed

that out.

Several times, that girl blinked to try to calm herself down as I said, “Sorry… I’m just so surprised. Aren’t you happy about it, though?”

“Happy?”

TH

I just looked at her confusedly, but it couldn’t be compared to the totally shocking things that she would say next.

“Well, what I mean is that you obviously had feelings for Bash back when the three of us would usually hang out. That’s why I thought that you’d be happy when he finally confessed to you.”
