Chapter 54 

“What?” 

I immediately let go of my hands and retreated from his arms. 

“Affection? Like fellow friends? I had always thought of you and I as friends, Bash. Remember that you were the one to deny it?” 

I thought I was going to pass out because of how fast my heart was thumping. 

He quickly closed the gap I’d created between us as he approached, gripped my face in his palm, then forced me to gaze up at him. I was paralyzed as I gazed up into his seemingly dead serious eyes. 

“I’m sure you got it, Winona,” was the sentence he stated to make things clear. 

I was absolutely caught off guard by his quick revelation, so while he kept my gaze, I experienced a complete loss of consciousness. However, after a short while, reality set in. 

I forced myself to move backwards once again, an uncertainty over all he had just started gradually became apparent. 

How on earth was it even conceivable? Why did he wait so long to notify me if that were the case? Why did he conceal it from me for two years? 

A horrible realization immediately struck me. A possible explanation as to why he held off on approaching me for so 

“How often have you previously used that line on women?” I eventually questioned. “You assume that since I’m older, I’m suddenly fair game? That I resemble the women you would drag into unoccupied classrooms for making love during your lunch breaks?” 

His expression changed and he appeared stunned. “What? No, Winona.” 

“I expected you to have matured at least a little, while you were coming back,” I remarked, growing more irritated in my tone. “Is that really everything you wished for? Even so, did you give our relationship any thought? Or, was it only the case that you were visiting the city for a party, wanted to get some woman to sleep with before returning home?” 

“No, Winona, you’ve got it….” 

“You have ignored me for two years, but when you’ve only come back in my life for a short while, you’re attempting to pick me up, Bash?” 

He had switched from accepting he had hurt me… to wanting to make out with me. Which aspect of it did he believe I would ever find acceptable? I was prepared to let go of the past, move forward, and restore a relationship that had been holding me down for so long… but this? 

I frantically swapped the enraged tears away, as I felt them starting to stream down my cheeks once again. 

“I’ll tell you this. No way, Bash. I hate you. I won’t be on your to-do list for playboys. Fucked a Saintess? You should 

probably check it off, huh? It’s a safe bet that you won’t come 

across another one of those in the entire nation, right?” 

“Winona! Just a moment, please.”

“I never gave a damn that you did it everywhere. I would never judge you. Not yet, anyhow. However, Bash, please refrain from indulging in nasty games with me. Years have passed, so I’m not the same weak girl I once was. I don’t need your fake good manners to make me feel better.” 

“What the hell, Winona?” 

“No! Enough. There are many girls who will be intrigued within… but not me.” 

He appeared hurt as he turned to go, but I convinced myself that it was only because I had refused to give in to his foolish request to enter my pants. 

Since it seemed preferable to the alternative. The alternative when he really did love me and was being serious about it, not simply the standard Bash viewed about women. For the simple reason, it was stuff that I couldn’t, or didn’t want to think about. Being in a relationship with a person like Bash had serious consequences for both me and my position. 

Not to add that, I was reincarnated with the intention of living, to prevent the past from occurring again. There was no place for passionate sentiments or more heartache. That was something I had already gone through, and for it, I had also been slain. 

To avoid having to see him leave, I turned around and 

covered my face. It was already too much to handle when having to look into those damned dejected eyes of his. 

He was aware, just as I was, that our relationship would only lead to issues; why would he even try then? Or why not simply be straightforward and say he was looking for a one-night stand? Then, at least, I would reject the offer and not have to deal with his confusing emotional behavior. 

I had only wished for us to remain friends and make up for what went wrong. The fact that he would even do this, implied that he had no regard for me or our friendship. I was so relieved he was even speaking to me again, that I felt like I was going to collapse at his feet. Was that how each and every female responded? 

I was not sure how long I lingered outside on the balcony, but it seemed like a very long time. I refused to return and unintentionally made eye contact with Bash. I also wasn’t interested to see him follow my suggestion to locate another female. I’ve had enough of watching Bash seduce multiple women throughout my life. 

But I also experienced internal struggle. There were many ideas and emotions that I wasn’t certain how to handle or whether I really intended to understand. 

‘You made the right decision, the old me implied within. ‘In either case, this is what’s best for us. 

“I’m aware of it!” I snarled furiously to myself. “I don’t need you to interfere.” 

“Are you good?” I gasped in surprise, as soon as I noticed someone asking me. 

When I swiftly looked around, I spotted a female. She was probably not much older than mine, with had black curly hair and sparkling blue eyes. However, I thought she wasn’t from 

Lock Heart, even though I should admit that she was rather attractive. 

I swiped my tears with the handkerchief she had given me as I cleared my throat. “Oh! I’m pretty good. My eyes… simply watered because of the night wind. However, thanks.” 

She gave me a comforting smile, knowing that I lied, but finally chose to continue going. She must have detected my tone, if I wasn’t interested in talking about it or having anyone 

around. 

I did, however, catch her glance around as she walked away. 

“Are you looking for someone?” I queried. 

“Oh… sort of.” She turned back to face me and hesitantly grinned. “Well, actually… It’s tricky.” Her cheeks slightly flushed. 

“Perhaps I can help? I belong to this pack.” 

“Could you, please? That would be incredible.” My suggestion immediately caused her eyes to light up, so she excitedly went back over to me. “Alistair Carter, are you familiar with them?” 

I grimaced. I was aware of who they were. “Why are you trying to find them?” 

“Oh, well,” she remarked. “I’m not sure. it’s quite foolish.” 

She was blushing, then pulled her hair behind her ear awkwardly. 

“They… rescued me.” 

She sensed that I was becoming more perplexed, so she hurriedly moved on. 

“About two years ago, I was in grave danger, but their intelligence ultimately saved my life. If it weren’t for them, I’d be in fact dead right now,” she explained, speaking with a fairytale-like excitement. “I followed the letter trace. It led me to a person’s name who was in this pack, but I’m beginning to fear that my search may have turned up nothing.” 

Yes, I was familiar with Alistair Carter. 

I was familiar, because they were me. That was my alias identity.

It was indicated that this girl was probably Zoey Sullivan, the daughter of Alpha Raymond from the eastern Hidden Moon pack. The same Alpha that I had used to make my first fortune. Money obtained… by less than honorable ways. She might have an identical name as that vile Zoey, but I doubt she would be that attendant, considering that she was an Alpha’s daughter. 

“You intend to locate them in order to express your gratitude?” 

More flush appeared on her cheeks. “I know it sounds insane, but I believed they might be my mate.” 

I was really caught away and just gazed at the female in front of me. That was definitely not what I had anticipated. 

“Why?” I couldn’t help questioning.
