Chapter 135
Aliza pov
I just stand there, looking at the stone in shock. He did this and came here every day for a year? Why hasn’t he told me this himself?
“I took you here because I want you to know how much he regretted what he did, he would never hurt you again,” he says, and I already know he wouldn’t hurt me.
“I know, but why hasn’t he told me this himself?” I say what’s on my mind. It feels surreal to look at my own name on the stone.
“You have to ask him that. I know what the doctor said, and I understand from Darian’s words that you don’t want to let him mark you,” he says, and now I understand why he took me here.
around to face him.
“I lost my wolf that day and have been living without her for years. Today I got hope she might come back to me, hope I haven’t had for years. I know if I don’t get her back, it will be painful again,” I say, looking at him where he stands with his graze on me.
“It wouldn’t change who you are and the life you have now if she doesn’t come back. I know it will be painful to come to terms with it, but you are still the same Aliza and Luna to this pack, Noah’s mother and Darian’s mate. He has been in pain as well, and all he wants right now is his mate to rightfully claim you as his. He needs his mate to be strong and able to run this pack and keep you safe,” he says before he turns around and walks away towards the gate again, leaving me with
those words.
I never thought I would be having this kind of conversation with my father–in–law, and right now it feels like I got scolded for being stupid and not seeing the bigger picture here.
Turning my head around, I look at the stone and my name one last time before I start to walk after him towards the car. He got me here and managed to get me to see what I was missing, the bigger picture. I hate to say it, but he is right, and it is time I step up.
Reaching the gate, I open it and see him sitting in the car by the window, and a guard is standing and holding the door open for me when I get inside the car. Taking a seat beside him in the back seat when I see him looking at his phone.
“I got the message!” I say to him when he keeps looking at the phone.
“Good! I know you will be an excellent Luna to this pack and the best mate to Darian. If you ever have any trouble, you can always come to me, and I will help you. I’m happy he got you back,” he says, lifting his head when he smiles at me.
Looking at him when he places his hand over mine and gives it a light squeeze before he lets go, I have no idea what to say to him. Once Darian gets home, he will mark me, and I will not object to it. It’s time I take control of my situation instead of hiding in his flat. I’m the Luna, and I have responsibilities as well.
“Okay,” I say when the car starts to roll, and drive back to his flat. Taking the papers and hold them to me when we sit in silence again while he is reading on his phone.
building and I see two guards by the elevator.
“We will help you on Monday to get on top of the things you need to handle. Let me know when you want Noah over, and I will bring him here,” he says when a guard opens my door.
“I will,” I say, getting out of the car. I have nothing else to say today, I only want a moment to myself after all this.
The elevator doors open when I approach them, and quickly get inside when the guard follows after me and pushes the button.
The door closed, and the elevator moves up. When I look at the numbers on each floor, it feels like an eternity once we reach his floor and the door opens.
Walking out alone, I take a deep breath and sigh to myself. I need a hot cup of coffee and read these papers. Then I might be able to come to terms with it all.
Reaching the kitchen, I head over to the table and place my papers down before I get over and make some nice coffee. Waiting for it to be done, I grab a mug and take a stand by the machine. Filling my mug
once it’s done, walk over to the table, and take a seat with it, sipping on my coffee before I start to go through the papers.
I’m occupied with reading them for a long time, and I even got to fill up my mug once more before I had gone through it all. With all the information I have read, there isn’t much more than what I already knew from the office today. I know I have several things that might be signs my wolf is still there, and if they’re not signs and she doesn’t come back when he marks me, his father is right. I’m still me, and I have to step up and do what I’m supposed to do.
Getting over to the sink, I place my mug in it and wash the pot from the last coffee before I wash the mug and place them to the side. Hearing the elevator arrive, I dry my hands on a towel and start to head out of the kitchen when fast steps move in the hallway.
Aliza,” I hear Liz call after me when I step out of the kitchen and see her come walking fast to where I am.
“What’s the problem?” I ask her when she stops in front of me and looks upset.
“I have been calling you for ages, why don’t you pick up?” She asks me
when I remember that I didn’t turn on my phone after we left the hospital.
“Right, I forgot to turn it on.” I say, looking at her.
“Well, I haven’t been able to reach Heidi or anyone at work! Now I’m worried,” she says when I walk over to grab my phone from my bag.
Finding it, I pull out my phone and press the button to turn it on. The screen lights up while I lift my head to look at Liz, who stands in front of me by the table.
“Who have you tried calling?” I ask her when she crosses her arms over her chest.
“Everyone!” she says when my phone starts beeping and I see several missed calls from Liz and voice messages. Then a text message pops up from an unknown number, and I instantly get a bad feeling about it when I press to open the text.
“If you want to save your friend, you wait for further instructions and
don’t tell anyone,” the text says when I get a picture of a badly beaten
up Heidi on a floor in what looks like a prison cell.
