Yannie and Cameron were also very nervous.
Yanne tightly held her purse. Her nervousness was just like Randels, a mixture of joy and anticipation one would feel when they would finally reunite with a long–lost friend or loved one.
the other hand, Cameron’s emotions were different.
Deep down, she was constantly cursing and hoping that Juju would never be found, or better, dead. In that case, no one would compete with her in winning the heart of Jared’s mother.
Yannie was the only one on her side now. If Juju showed up, would Yannie even bother being with Cameron?
Of course, not.
Even if Juju was alive, it would be best if she had a miserable life! Something that would make people sick just by looking at her.
“Who is it?” A voice came from the inside.
“Are you here to read the water meters? It’s too early!” The woman thought someone from the neighborhood was here to read the water meters.
The door slowly opened, revealing a middle–aged woman.
She looked annoyed. “You people shouldn’t bother us so early-” She raised her head and saw Randel’s good–looking face, catching her off–guard.
She gasped. ‘Do companies hire good–looking people to read water meters these days?” she thought.
She looked behind him and found more people standing behind him.
“Huh? Why are there so many people here?‘
The woman’s eyes swept past Randel and looked at Julia and Jared.
A gasp escaped her lips again. ‘Why are they all so good–looking?‘ She thought in shock and astonishment.
They looked as if they had stepped out of a fashion magazine. She had never seen such beautiful faces in her entire life.
“H–Hello. What brings you here?”
with her
Enough about water meter readers. These people looked well–off and sophisticated. If she still thought that they came here to read water meters, then there must be something wrong brain.
Randel showed her a photo of Juju.
“Hello, Ma’am. Twenty years ago, you adopted this child. Am I right?”
One glance at the photo, and the woman’s eyes
widened.
Her eyes almost popped out of her face, looking as if she had seen a ghost.
“U–uh… Y–You’ve got the wrong person. I don’t know her!”
Without waiting for Randel‘ s reply, the middle–aged woman turned around and forcefully closed the door.
However, the woman didn’t close the door completely. “Huh?”
She looked down and saw Julia’s foot at the doorstep, preventing the door from being completely

shut. The woman looked at her and saw her smiling face.
“Sorry for bothering you, Ma‘ am. But… What’s with the hurry? You know something about the girl we re looking for, don’t you?”
“I don’t know anything! Get out of here! If you don’t leave right now, I’ll call the police!” The woman warned, thinking that it would scare them away.
Julia crossed her arms and shrugged. “Go ahead. Call them. Let’s see if you dare.”
Back then, it was this middle–aged woman and her husband who sold her to the entertainment club. They were criminals, and she didn’t believe they would really call the police.
If the cops pulled up at their door, they would be the ones in trouble.
“What’s going on? What‘ s with all the noise?!”
At that moment, the middle–aged man heard the commotion and walked to the door.
“Honey, help me! Hurry! These people are threatening me!” The woman cried.
The man immediately grabbed the kitchen knife and stepped out at the door.
“Who the hell are you? Who dared threaten my wife, huh?” he yelled.
Randel stepped forward, unafraid. He showed the photo again and stared at the scrawny man.
“The welfare institution‘ s records showed that this girl was brought here. She is my sister. You adopted her.”
As soon as he heard the word “sister,” the man froze. The kitchen knife fell out of his hand, hitting the ground.
Everyone’s suspicions grew more intense when they saw the couple’s strange reactions. It didn’t take them long to realize that something was amiss.
Randel’s expression hardened. “Where is she?” He asked in a cold, hostile tone.
The man’s lips trembled. He waved his shaking hands and stammered, “S–She‘ s… She‘ s gone.”
“Gone?” Randel repeated as if he didn’t hear it right. “How could she just disappear out of the blue? You have to explain everything to us.
He had followed the leads to this place with high hopes of finally reuniting with the person he had been longing for, only to be told that Juju had disappeared and was nowhere to be found.
“She… She just disappeared,” the woman chimed in. “Twenty years ago, I took her shopping. On the way there, she somehow got lost. My husband and I looked for her… For days! Still, we weren’t able to find her.”
