Chapter 299: Questioning
The couple’s narratives were not exactly far–fetched, and their stories perfectly tied with each other. Their facial expressions as they told the story about losing Juju seemed genuine, making it harder to tell if they were lying or not.
Julia, on the other hand, inwardly scoffed. She clenched her jaw as she stared at the couple. She had to admit, they were quite skilled at lying. Had she not known about her past, she might have believed them.
“So, you lost her? Then, why didn’t you report it to the police?”
The woman sighed and lowered her eyes. “We reported it, but we never thought they would find her!”
“Poor kid. That child was really unlucky. Originally, we decided to adopt her and raise her as our own daughter. We never expected something like that to happen. I feel so bad just thinking about that day!”
The middle–aged woman even shed tears as she finished her story, and her act was incredibly convincing.
The man, however, didn’t want to be outshined. So, he mustered the saddest look he could show as he hugged his wife.
Watching the two, Randel and the rest of them believed the couple.
“Juju…” Randel murmured in a defeated, hoarse voice. He let out a deep sigh. He looked at the couple with red eyes.
Julia, who had been watching Randel‘ s expression, withdrew her gaze and turned her attention back to the couple.
“Is that so? You really went to the cops? Well, you should come with us to the police station to double–check the records.”
The couple both swallowed hard. They looked at each other warily before turning to Julia in disbelief.
Both Jared and Randel, intelligent as they were, sensed something off from the couple’s expressions.
Julia raised an eyebrow and looked at the couple with a smirk.
“What’s wrong? Are you scared to face the police? Or is there something you‘ re trying to hide from us?”
The couple stared at Julia, flabbergasted.
For some reason, the way Julia looked at them made it seem as though she could see through all their thoughts. It made them more wary, sending shivers down their spines.
“You two! Tell us the truth! Where is Juju?” Randel growled impatiently.
The couple’s faces turned pale. They shook their heads as they slowly backed away. “We… We just told you the t–truth… She’s really g–gone!”
Julia turned to Randel. “Why are we wasting more time with them? It’s obvious they‘ re hiding something. Let’s take them to the police station. Now.”
Randel looked at her and nodded.
The couple was so frightened that they fell to their knees.

Chapter 299: Questioning
“No! Don’t take us to the cops! We’ll talk! We’ll tell the truth!”
All of them looked at each other.
“In the past… We…” The woman stuttered, hesitating to talk.
Julia sighed. “Again, we’re just wasting time. I think it’s better to take them to the police station directly.”
As soon as Julia said this, the couple could no longer stay mum. They immediately started narrating what happened, revealing the truth.
“To be honest, when my husband and I went to the welfare institution, we didn’t really intend to adopt a child. We just wanted… to find a… a pretty girl and sell her.”
Randel couldn’t take it anymore. He kicked the woman hard, knocking her to the ground.
“You dirty assholes! How could you do that to a child?” He roared in fury. His eyes blazed with anger and pain.
It was the first time Julia had seen Randel so mad.
“My Juju! Why did she suffer like this? Her parents died in a fire, and she barely escaped! Then, what? She fell seriously ill and had amnesia. Then, this? She met people like you who sold her like a toy? You heartless monsters!” Yannie cried out, tears falling down her cheeks.
It was heartbreaking.
It was nothing but heartbreaking!
“You damn monsters! You‘ re animals!” Jared couldn’t help but curse angrily.
He and Juju were the same age. Although he was very young at the time, his most vivid memory of Juju was her always clinging to his older brother, happy and full of life.
