Chapter 295 New Year’s Gift
Freya and Isabella played with Jolly for a while, while Sylvia sat on the couch and watched them with a smile. Braxton dealt with some simple work on his phone. The family was harmonious and happy.
They had lunch together at noon, and it was time for Jolly to take a nap.
Freya handed Jolly over to the nanny and asked her to get Jolly to sleep.
After Jolly fell asleep, Freya took Isabella back to the small living room on the second floor.
The two sat and chatted for a while, and Isabella started to complain.
“You didn’t tell me anything when Melissa got involved in such a big incident before. If your brother hadn’t told me about it afterward, I wouldn’t have known!”
Freya chuckled. “The matter has been resolved; there’s no need for you to worry anymore. Mel went back to Vroria a few days ago to celebrate the New Year.”
“I know you say that, but don’t you find it strange?” Isabella frowned, “Who exactly killed Benjamin? After Braxton told me, I’ve been thinking about it. The police investigation showed that Benjamin didn’t offend anyone, which is very strange.”
“He probably did it to frame Melissa,” Freya said lightly.
Isabella’s eyes widened. “So, Melissa offended someone? No, how could she have such a big grudge against someone that they would plot against her? Is it a business rival of the Marshalls?”
Freya pursed her lips. Before this, she didn’t want Isabella to worry, and she didn’t want too many people to know, for the less they knew, the safer it would be.
But after what happened to Melissa, she felt that the people behind the scenes would not let it go so easily.
“Isabella, there’s something I need to tell you.”
Freya contemplated and told Isabella about the people who had been watching the Kaufmanns.
“I didn’t want to tell you about this, because I feared that it would scare you. But as you can see, those people have targeted Melissa. So…”
Freya sighed and looked at Isabella. “I think you should also be careful for now. After all, in three months, you will be my sister-in-law. I’m afraid those people might harm you.”

Isabella’s eyes widened in shock.
“My grandfather mentioned before that your family seems to have had a run of bad luck in the past two years. You got into two car accidents, and Braxton’s leg was broken in another car accident. He even told me to pray for Benjamin when I went on a trip to Mount Bassend.”
“It’s not bad luck as it’s a man-made disaster!”
Freya said coldly, her eyes sharp.
“But don’t worry, this matter shouldn’t last too long. I’m investigating those people. After what happened to Melissa, we found out that the killer died in an abandoned house in North Geft. The body is also a clue.”
Freya pursed her lips. She had more than just a body as evidence. Ink was currently helping her investigate the identity of that glamorous woman.
The gray-clothed man who died was skilled at fighting, and he was also good with a crossbow. A man with such talent wouldn’t be in a low position in their organization.
And since that glamorous woman could order the gray-clothed man, she should at least be his superior.
With the photos that Ink had obtained, the investigation shouldn’t take too long.
“Freya, is it dangerous for you to investigate this matter?” Isabella looked worried. “According to what you said, these people won’t hesitate to kill. You’ve encountered a lot of danger in the past two years. Even the car accident where you fell into the river… I’m worried.”“
“It’s fine.” Freya smiled faintly. “Although I don’t know why, it seems that those people don’t intend to harm me for now. They’re targeting the people around me instead.”
It even seemed like those people didn’t plan to harm the Kaufmanns. Otherwise, just kidnapping Melissa would have been enough trouble for her.
Freya furrowed her brows and shared her doubts with Isabella.
“Someone sneaked into my bedroom before to look for a book, but there hasn’t been any movement recently.”
“Maybe those people realized that you are skilled at fighting, and Braxton has arranged security measures for the Kaufmanns like a fortress. Plus, your car has been modified, so they have very few opportunities to strike.” Isabella smiled. “And you haven’t been out much ever since you came back from Vroria.”
Freya thought for a moment and nodded, but the suspicion in her heart still lingered.

Isabella interrupted Freya’s thoughts and whispered,
“Freya, what about the disease that you said you would research for Braxton? How is it going?”
Freya smiled. “What about it? Are you worried?”
Isabella shook her head repeatedly. “As I said before, as long as I can be with Braxton. I don’t care if we have children or not. But I’m afraid that as time goes on, your brother will find out that we’ve been deceiving him.”
Freya smiled. “Back then, I was indeed deceiving him when I gave him advice. But not anymore.”
“What do you mean?” Isabella’s eyes lit up. “Has the research been successful?”
“It can be considered a success, but it still needs to be combined with surgery to be used on at human body. The drug is still undergoing approval and final testing at the Drug
Administration.” Freya smiled. “Don’t worry; once the Drug Administration approves it, I will perform the surgery on Brax.”
Considering the time, it could still be done before the two of them got married.
Isabella finally let go of her worries, and she hugged Freya in surprise and joy.
“Freya, you’re amazing! You’re my savior!”
Isabella smiled with tears in her eyes, and Freya felt touched.
Although Isabella was willing to give up having a child for Braxton, most people would still want to have a baby with their loved ones if given the choice.
At 8 p.m.
The Kaufmann family and Isabella gathered in the living room.
The New Year Festival was playing on the TV, and Sylvia was very excited.
Freya’s impression of the New Year Festival was from three years ago.
The Kaufmann family had a tradition. On every New Year’s Day, the younger generation. would speak words of blessings to the elders and then receive gifts from them.
The four of them sat on the couch and watched until the end. Freya was already sleepy.
When the countdown started on the New Year Festival, she became interested again and asked Braxton to bow to Sylvia with her.

After Braxton finished, he received a huge gift, followed by Freya.
She solemnly bowed to Sylvia a few times. “Happy New Year, Mom. May everything go well for you. Brax is getting married next year, and I hope our family will have another addition in the new year. I hope you feel younger as the years pass.”
Sylvia smiled brightly, her voice softer and warmer than usual.
“Alright, you’re so good at talking. Look, you’ve made Isabella blush.”
Freya happily accepted the gift.
It was a double portion, and she was a little surprised. “Why did I get two?”
Sylvia glanced at her. “One is for little Jolly.”
“Thank you, Mom.” Freya smiled. “Jolly is still young, so I’ll open it with him.”
The last gift was for Isabella.
Isabella was a little surprised. After receiving the gift, she stood up to bow but was stopped by Sylvia.
The custom of bowing had disappeared in many places, but it was still preserved in the Kaufmann family because of Braxton’s and Freya’s insistence.
Sylvia was afraid that Isabella, her future daughter-in-law, wouldn’t like it, so she stopped the
custom.
After chatting for a while, everyone got tired and went back to their rooms to rest.
