Chapter 156 Can’t Give Up Easily
A white light flashed by Radley’s eyes.
Just thinking about Freya’s current condition made him feel as if his heart was being squeezed by an invisible hand, sending a painful sensation throughout his body.
Tears were swirling in Hannah’s eyes when she spoke and cautiously asked, “Radley, what should we do now? What do we do if something really happens to Freya?”
Radley’s voice was heavy. “Don’t worry about this. Go home. I will take care of Freya.”
He would never allow Freya to leave him like this!
Freya had many secrets that she had been hiding from him since they got married.
Now that he had come to terms with his feelings, he wouldn’t give up on her just like that.
The disheartened Hannah eventually left while Radley sat in his office and slowly took out his wallet from his pocket.
Mobile payment was prevalent throughout the country nowadays.
Even though hardly anyone used physical wallets anymore, Radley carried his with him just to protect the things inside. He opened the wallet, revealing a corner of a photo tucked inside.
It was his and Freya’s wedding photo from before.
In the photo, Freya had a radiant smile, and her head was slightly tilted toward him while he wore an expression devoid of any emotion.
Radley had the only photo of the two of them reprinted and started carrying it with him at all times recently.
He tightly pursed his lips. If the situation was really as Hannah had said, and Freya was on the brink of life and death, he had to see her no matter what!
Despite his resolve, he knew that Braxton would definitely not let him in. Since the Kaufmanns had tightened security around that building, it would be difficult for him to sneak in unnoticed unless he asked for Owl’s help.
However, his getting help from the Monaghan Group could potentially lead to conflicts with the Kaufmanns.
Radley tapped his fingers lightly on the desk as he tried to come up with a solution as soon as possible.
At 5 in the afternoon, he left the company and had Connor drive him to Caltun General Hospital.
Radley saw Chris and Mikael in the courtyard when he arrived at the small building where Freya lived.
“What are you both doing here?” he asked.
Chris had already shed his usual playboy attitude when he looked at Radley and replied, “Mikael was worried that you would worry too much about Freya and do something impulsive, so he came to check on her. Besides,” he added, “Freya and we are friends. It’s a given that we would come and see her.”
Hearing that, Radley glanced at the small building. “Braxton didn’t let you in, did he?”
Mikael, who was standing on the side, sighed, “Braxton said that Freya is not here anymore”
She’s not here?! “What do you mean she’s not here?” Radley’s voice trembled slightly.
Mikael knew that Radley had misunderstood and quickly explained, “Freya has been moved to the hospital’s main building.
The main hospital building of Caltun. General Hospital had 33 floors, and Freya was hospitalized on the top floor area that had yet to be open to patients. Currently, she was the only one staying on that entire
floor.
Radley and the others arrived at the main building and coincidentally ran into Ethan coming out of the elevator. Ethan was going to do an examination for Freya.
When the elevator doors opened, Ethan looked somewhat helpless at the three of them, “I really can’t bring anyone to see Miss Kaufmann. It’s the patient’s family’s decision.”
Radley tried to gather information from Ethan in the elevator using various indirect questions. Judging from Ethan’s answers, Radley could tell that Freya’s condition was not good.
There were bodyguards every few steps in the corridor when they reached the 33rd floor.
Braxton had moved Freya from the small building to the top floor of this hospital building because he believed that the security measures here would be more stringent than in the small building.
At the very least, he didn’t have to worry about someone climbing into Freya’s ward through the window.
Radley’s eyes flickered slightly when he looked at the bodyguards in the corridor.
Chris furrowed his brows, “Why are these people stopping us from seeing Freya? We’re not bad people. Braxton is being too cautious!”
Mikael advised from the side, “Freya is the Kaufmanns daughter after all. It’s expected for this to happen. If you were seriously injured, your family would also stop any information from getting out.”
Chris turned to Radley. “Radley, do you want to barge in? Mikael and I can help you deal with these bodyguards.”
Radley had no intention of causing a scene on the top floor. After noting the positions of the guards, he turned around and entered the elevator.
He then pressed the button for the first floor, and that sent the three of them back downstairs.
Chris was still a little annoyed. “Ethan is usually a flexible person, but I noticed that he has been particularly insistent on Freya’s matter this time. It would have been possible to say a few more words or quietly bring someone in otherwise.”
Mikael speculated, “Perhaps the Kaufmanns gave him some benefits, or maybe he has a good personal relationship with them.”
Radley immediately thought of Professor Harlan, Freya’s connection to Ethan was not just because she was the Kaufmanns‘ daughter, but also because of her talent that impressed Ethan.
Seeing that Radley was in a bad state, Chris pulled the two of them to Windr Club.
The next day, trending topics flooded the internet once again.
Even after the news about Freya’s injury was removed from the trending topics a few days ago, the online discussions did not stop.
Today, something even more shocking came out. “Freya Kaufmann Is in Critical Condition.”
The released video was an interview with Ethan. In the footage, reporters surrounded him at the hospital.
Ethan’s eyebrows were furrowed. “You are already infringing on privacy. Do not get in my way of saving the patient!”
The reporters were in a hurry to bombard Ethan with questions. “Dr. Griffiths, we only have one question for you. Many netizens are concerned about Miss Kaufmann-”
Before the reporter could finish speaking, Ethan coldly interrupted, “I have no comment on the patient’s privacy. Please move aside!”
The reporter was not shown on camera, but a slight pause in the audio could be heard before they asked again, “What is President Braxton Kaufmann’s opinion about Miss Kaufmann being in critical condition?”
“Instead of blocking the way here, you should be asking him, if it’s his opinion you want,” Ethan simply threw out. He was already annoyed by the crowd surrounding him.
The reporters immediately acted as though they had caught him slipping. “So Miss Kaufmann is in critical condition!”
Upon hearing that, Ethan seemed to realize that he had misspoken and had a cold expression as he pushed past the people and left!
The internet went wild in an instant, and Freya’s fans flooded the trending topic with sad comments.
“Why did a nice person like Freya end up like this?”
There is no result from the official investigation yet. Who could have harmed her?!
The wealthy have so many dark secrets. She must have offended someone!”
The internet was abuzz with discussions.
At the Monaghan Group, Radley sat in his office, watching the interview on his tablet with a cold expression on his face.
After watching the video, he immediately stood up and reached for his coat on the hanger before he stormed out of the room.
Connor hurriedly followed him. “But Mr. Monaghan, the Commerce Department’s director from the Holland Group is on his way to meet with you!”
Radley merely hissed, “Postpone it!”
