Chapter 30 Not Qualified
Julia and Yannie locked eyes, the air around them thick with tension, poised to ignite at the slightest spark.
Following a momentary hush, Yannie withdrew a card from her handbag and
extended it to Julia. “Aren’t you here solely for material gain? There’s one million on this card. Take it and leave.”
Julia’s gaze skimmed over the card before remarking, “Since you’ve concluded that my motives are driven by wealth, I won’t bother to defend myself. After all, you wouldn’t believe me anyway.”
With that, Julia produced her phone and tapped on the transfer record that Jared had sent her.
“Look, your son is far more generous than you–ten times as generous, to be precise. Given that I’m here for financial gain, I’ll just cling tightly to your son’s wealth.” The ten million dollars referred to were the sum Jared had previously transferred to her, meant for purchasing medicine for Shiloh.
Julia’s words irked Yannie. The audacity with which she twisted the situation to her advantage was infuriating. Moreover, Yannie hadn’t anticipated that Jared would bestow ten million Dollars upon Julia at once.
While ten million dollars might not be a considerable sum for their affluent family, it undeniably constituted a significant amount for ordinary people.
“How do you propose to get you to leave?”
Julia nonchalantly shrugged and eased herself onto the sofa, legs raised and hands. draped over the sofa’s back. She lounged with an air of comfort, asserting. “This place is so cozy. Compared to my previous life, it’s practically heaven. Why should I depart?”
“You have no shame!” Cameron couldn’t contain himself, stepping forward to reprimand Julia. He then turned to Yannie. “Godmother, do you see this? She’s openly defiant in front of you now. And who’s to say she won’t ride roughshod over you again in the future?”
Yannie’s patience was wearing thin. Were it not for her lifelong cultivation of upper–class elegance, she might have lost her composure long ago. Cameron’s comments only further ignited her feeling that her seniority was being severely challenged.
“Do
you imagine you can stay here just because you wish it? If I press Jared for a divorce, do you really believe he’d make a scene on your behalf against me?”
Yannie’s words caused a slight crease to form on Julia’s brow. In Jared’s eyes, she was an outsider, incomparable to his own mother.
“I must point out, Madam Brooks, that since you’ve already conducted an investigation
on me, you should be aware of why Jared and I decided to obtain a marriage certificate,” Julia responded calmly.
Yannie’s gaze shifted to Shiloh, seated in a wheelchair. As Julia had stated, she was indeed privy to the situation.
“Godmother, Jared has been duped. Please don’t let yourself fall for it as well. She’s so young; even if she possesses medical knowledge, can she truly surpass the renowned medical professors we used to engage? How could she possibly provide him with a proper cure? She’s exploiting this opportunity, cozying up to Jared, hoping to secure a place by his side. She likely believes that with time, their affection will grow, and once they become an official couple, she’ll have a firm position as the lady of the house.” Cameron continued to fuel Yannie’s anger, whispering these words in her ear. Yannie hailed from a wealthy background, and Cameron’s assertions were tactics frequently employed by those aiming for power. Thus, his words resonated as reasonable to her, causing her regard for Julia to be infused with a significant degree of disdain.
“Is that the truth?” Yannie pointed at Julia, questioning her directly.
Julia offered a serene smile and nodded. “Indeed, that’s the truth.”
She admitted it? Did she just admit to it?
The “composure” in Julia’s tone caught everyone off guard.
Unperturbed, Julia expanded upon her earlier declaration, her voice audacious and unapologetic. “I sought after Jared’s wealth and aspired to become the mistress of this estate. And not only that, I’ve formulated a cunning plan over the past few days. I sedated Jared, engaged in a physical relationship with him, and subsequently manipulated conception, ensuring he wouldn’t be able to extricate himself from me.”
Julia’s confession left Yannie and the others gaping. They had encountered shameless individuals before, but Julia’s brazenness in openly and unabashedly voicing her intentions was beyond their wildest expectations.
“You, you get out of here! You’re unworthy of being part of the Brooks family!” Yannie’s face displayed a storm of anger tinted with shades of blue and purple.
Julia turned her gaze to Shiloh and queried, “What about you? Do you also want me to leave?”
Shiloh hesitated, then began, “I—”
“I always honor my promises. If I can get you back on your feet within two weeks, I’ll accomplish it,” Julia asserted, her gaze firm and determined.
Shiloh deliberately placed his hands on his legs, his internal struggle evident. On the one hand, he was wary of Julia potentially causing harm to his brother; on the other hand, his weariness of confinement to a wheelchair weighed heavily.
“Shiloh, don’t let her deceive you. She’s incapable of healing your leg,” Yannie’s dissatisfaction with Julia was becoming increasingly evident, her desire for Julia’s

swift departure intensifying.
Cameron seized the opportunity to cast a triumphant look at Julia, silently
communicating: your arrogance won’t last long; soon, you’ll be ousted from the Brooks family!
Standing up, Julia moved toward Shiloh and addressed Yannie, “Madam Brooks, you seem to only concern yourself with your elder son. But what about your younger son?” “Nonsense! When did I stop caring for Shiloh?” Yannie’s chest heaved with anger. “Really? Do you genuinely care about him? Then why don’t you ask him directly about his current condition?” Julia’s gaze met Yannie’s calmly as she posed the question. Cameron chimed in, “Is asking even necessary? Do you truly believe you can cure Shiloh’s legs?”
“Keep your interruption to yourself! If you have nothing important to say, step aside!” Julia snapped impatiently at Cameron.
Initially cowed by Julia’s aura, Cameron’s emotions shifted to near–exasperation. Before Cameron could voice his rebuttal, Yannie interjected, “Fine, let her depart without a word then! Shiloh, it’s up to you to tell me if her treatment is effective or
not.”
Shiloh clutched the blanket covering his legs tightly, wrestling with an internal dilemma.
“I…”
“Shiloh, if I leave today, you can be assured that you’ll likely remain confined to this frigid wheelchair for the rest of your life. Forever looking up at others,” each of Julia’s words seemed to tighten Shiloh’s grip.
“Furthermore, your brother possesses his own judgment. Is his judgment inferior to yours?”
For Shiloh, these words acted like an epiphany.
Yes, his brother’s ability to assess situations was unparalleled. Could this woman be harboring ulterior motives? His brother must perceive things more clearly than him. Besides, during this time, Julia hadn’t taken any tangible action against his brother.
And his legs… he wanted to stand again.
He wanted to stand!
With this realization, Shiloh pursed his lips and directed his gaze toward Yannie. “Mom, perhaps she truly can heal my leg.”
“What?” Yannie’s astonishment was palpable, mirrored by Cameron’s incredulous expression.
“Shiloh, what are you saying? Don’t let her manipulate you. How could she possibly have the capability to heal you?” Before Cameron could finish her sentence, she

watched in astonishment as Shiloh lifted the blanket and gradually raised his legs through sheer determination.
