Chapter 251.2: She Is Not Pregnant, She Is Pretending (2)
Carter shared her thoughts. It wasn’t very certain that someone from a prominent family would grant them entry like this.
While the head of the Brooks family kept much of their family information private, some tidbits of knowledge were still circulating.
The previous head of the Brooks family had three brothers, with the eldest being the eldest. Julia encountered the other two brothers on various occasions, along with other family members. The ones who had never made a public appearance were the current head of the family and his younger brother.
Rumors had it that the current head of the family was reclusive, uninterested in romantic pursuits, and remained single. However, this description didn’t seem to fit the man named Jared.
There was also the younger brother of the head of the Brooks family, who had suffered severe leg injuries in a childhood car accident, rendering him with physical disabilities. This seemed to be in line with their speculation. Jared was likely a lesser–known member of the Brooks family, someone with minor status or prominence.
Carter began to feel somewhat relieved, thinking that perhaps Julia hadn’t revealed Jared’s identity as a member of the Brooks family because it was a lot to handle.
But just as he was starting to find some comfort in this, that man took Julia away, and the news of their marriage only added to Carter‘ s confusion and unease.
Vivien reached out and gently tugged on Carter’s sleeve.
“Carter, I’m not feeling well,” Vivien said in a pitiful tone.
Carter refocused his attention on Vivien and looked at her concerns. “I’ll help you to a private room so you can rest.”
“Okay,” Vivien replied, leaning against Carter for support.
As Carter held her in his arms, he couldn’t help but feel a complex mix of emotions.
“Would you like me to find a doctor for you?” he asked.
Vivien shook her head. “No need to trouble yourself. I’m just a bit tired. I’ve read about pregnancy, and feeling tired is quite common during this time.”
“Then let me help you get some rest,” Carter suggested.
“Yeah,” Vivien agreed, and they headed upstairs together.
Upstairs, Julia observed Vivien and Carter‘ s departure.
Vivien was quite the expert at pretending, as always. She really knows how to pull it off convincingly.
Julia couldn’t help but wonder, if Vivien tried her best to feign another pregnancy, what would she do if she couldn’t actually get pregnant again?
Would she go to the extent of pretending to have a miscarriage like she did last time?
Julia raised a hand to touch her chin, deep in thought, as she analyzed the situation. She felt that Vivien wasn’t naive enough to attempt such a ruse. Vivien had no way out–she needed to become pregnant and deliver a child to solidify her identity as Mrs. Ross.
Therefore, if Vivien found herself unable to conceive, she only had one option: to continue

pretending to be pregnant until the day of delivery, then somehow procure a child and claim it as
her own.
Initially, Julia had wanted to expose Vivien’s lies as soon as possible, causing Carter and Lilian to become disillusioned with her. But upon further reflection, it didn’t seem dramatic enough. So, she decided to reveal Vivien‘ s deception after the day of her supposed childbirth.
That would be far more satisfying.
“He’s gone, and you‘ re still watching,” a cold voice suddenly emanated from behind, sending shivers down Julia‘ s spine.
Julia turned around to face the man, whose dark countenance seemed to blend into the night.
“Uh…”
‘Is he jealous again?‘
She had been so engrossed in her thoughts that she had temporarily forgotten about Jared.
“I wasn’t watching him; I was observing Vivien, Julia responded.
Jared narrowed his eyes, clearly not entirely convinced by Julia’s words.
“Really! I’m not lying to you. I was checking out Vivien‘ s belly. She’s not pregnant; she’s just pretending,” Julia reiterated.
“Oh,” Jared responded nonchalantly and didn’t show much of a reaction.
That’s it? Julia blinked in surprise. Most people would react with some curiosity or gossip.
“You‘ re not curious at all?” Julia couldn’t help but ask.
Jared’s gaze drifted downward and settled on Julia s own belly. “Other people‘ s bellies don‘ t concern me. I’m only interested in this one.
Julia couldn’t help but blush at his response.
