Chapter 101 Questionable Intentions
Julia’s heart raced like crazy at Jared’s words,warmth slowly spreading through her body.
Jared looked at her with sparkling eyes, seemingly telling her she was the most important thing in the world–his world. And with his charming looks and intense gaze,even Julia couldn’t brush the uneasy feeling off.
But as his gaze deepened, so did Julia’s guilt.
Julia’s sole reason for hanging out with Jared all boiled down to the Little Jade Statue,a vessel that held secrets about her real identity.
It was so crucial to finding answers to her questions that she jumped into this mission without thinking. She thought if she could find that statue, she could track who gave her this mission in the first place. And by following clues,she might find the person pulling the strings and uncover her
true roots.
Time had messed up Julia’s memories, especially since she had been a sick kid. Her childhood was blurry, yet fragments of it remained.
She was sure she had a loving family–parents,grandparents, and clan. So why in the world did it all disappear out of nowhere? How did she end up in an orphanage?
These were the mysteries Julia was dead set on cracking.
Shrugging everything off in the meantime, Julia composed herself and shot a shy smile at Jared. “Kidding.You know exactly what I’m after, Jared. As I said,Carter hurt me so much that I wanted to get back at him.”
Unconvinced, Jared looked at Julia suspiciously.“Dig in.The food’s getting cold,“he said before grabbing the knife and fork,deftly cutting the steak into manageable pieces, and giving them to Julia.
Since Julia seemed reluctant to discuss it, Jared didn’t press further. But he was sure of one thing Julia didn’t just marry him as some elaborate scheme to mess with Carter.
After a while, Julia’s phone rang again.
It was Lincoln calling.
“Sup, Boss!It’s almost 10 o’clock.When are you getting here?”
“I’ll be there soon-“Julia replied, but couldn’t finish her words as she saw Jared slump over the table,unconscious.
‘This guy… Did he drink too much?”
“Boss? Are you there? Did something-”
“Just a second.“Julia cut Lincoln,went to Jared, and tried talking to him, but he didn’t respond. ‘He’s really drunk,’she concluded, shaking her head.
Sighing, she turned to the phone call and announced,“Forget it.I won’t come over tonight.” “What?!“Lincoln yelled at the other end of the line.“You’re not coming?Then whose birthday are we celebrating? No, scratch that.Why celebrate at all?!”
“Jared’s had too much drink He passed out, and I can’t leave him like that.”
“He’s faking it!He must be!Don’t let him trick you!“Lincoln sounded sure.
Julia, however,remained deaf to his words. “Why? Do you think he’s as cunning as you?“

Hearing that, Lincoln quickly defended himself.“Hey, I’m not cunning!It’s just that I’m a man, so I know men well. Trust me, Boss.I bet Jared is faking it!If not, I’ll stay single forever.”
“Well, you’re single anyway. Now, save your words, ‘coz I need to go. I have to take care of him.” Not waiting for Lincoln’s reply, Julia ended the call.
“Hello? Boss? Oh no, Boss got fooled!“Lincoln sighed as he sat on the sofa,then looked at Denver and others.“Aren’t you worried at all?”
Calm, Denver replied, “Why should we be?”
“You should!That Jared guy might be up to something!“Lincoln persisted.
Shrugging, Denver reasoned,“Relax,dude. Boss is smart. She won’t be fooled. Besides, don’t you think she was the one who was up to something?I bet she spiked Jared’s drink.”
Picking sense to Denver’s words, Lincoln’s eyes widened.“You’re right, but wait!Even if Boss has a plan,we must stop her from doing something risky!And think about Wolf Six. He’s been obsessing over Boss.What if he comes back from America and finds out Boss is married? Damn, he will lose
it!”
“Let’s cross the bridge when we get there, Lincoln.“Denver uninterestedly replied.“We’ll see what happens when he comes back.”
After that, Denver picked up the microphone, ready to blow the roo
Meanwhile, Julia walked Jared into the room,supporting him.
Looking at Jared sleeping, she softly said, “Rest well. I won’t disturb your sleep anymore.I’m tired too, so I’ll sleep in the adjacent room.”
When a yawn slipped her mouth, she casually turned to leave.
But just as she took a step, Jared gently caught her wrist, and with a swift motion, he pulled her and guided her to land on the bed next to him.
Before Julia could react, she found herself wrapped in his arms.
After being frozen and speechless for a second, Julia looked up and stared at Jared’s well–defined chin.Then, her gaze continued roaming upward, meeting his handsome eyes.
Looking at him, Julia couldn’t help but be reminded of Denver.
Denver’s success as a live–streaming host wasn’t just due to his way of words but also his good looks.Thinking about this, Julia wondered that if Jared ever decided to try live streaming, he wouldn’t need to talk as smoothly as Denver.Just his presence on camera would be beyond enough.
Julia found her thoughts amusing and laughed.
Hearing her, Jared’s brows furrowed slightly. He wanted to open his eyes and see why she was laughing, but he pretended to stay asleep.
Clueless that he was awake, Julia repositioned his body and found a comfortable spot herself in his arms.

“If one day you figure out my true intentions,would you still treat me the same way?“she asked,sounding a little sadder than she intended to be.
So while Jared tried to keep on with his pretense, his hand clenched at his side subconsciously.
One fancy thing about life was that everything could happen all at once. Some people rejoice,and some fret. But on Carter’s side,only gloomy faces abounded.
Back at the villa, Lilian was furious about the cruise ship incident ruining the wedding.
“It’s Julia!It has to be Julia!Ever since she came here,we haven’t had peace. No doubt, she’s behind this!”
Carter was about to refute her but thought better of it. His mother, Lilian,was too angry,and arguing wouldn’t help. Also, the fireworks image with“Happy Birthday, Julia“kept replaying in his
mind.
Someone was celebrating Julia’s birthday,and they ensured they saw it.
‘Julia,what exactly do you feel for him?‘he pondered.
He kept asking himself questions when Vivien interrupted his thoughts.
“Carter, drop whatever it is that you’re thinking, okay? It’s fine, really…“Vivien reassured. Seeing her fragile state,Carter couldn’t help but feel guilt and sympathy altogether. “Don’t worry, my love. I’ll give you a grand and flawless wedding, “Carter affirmed with unwavering resolve.
Just then, Benedict walked in, looking odd.
“Did
you find out what happened with the cruise ship?“Carter asked.
“Boss,about that…The cruise ship…The cruise ship wasn’t sinking at all.“Benedict revealed.
