Chapter 78: Mae’s Sudden Return, As If Everything Had Changed
At the Gray family’s dinner party, Mark was so nervous the moment Jennifer fell. So, she could be sure of this.
Looking at it, Mae was a bit displeased and returned the iPad to Jean. She turned around and went to the study.
An hour later, Mae came out of the room holding a thin file bag and handed it to her.
“Divorce papers?”
Jean took out the contents of the file bag and looked at it. “You’re suing for divorce?”
“Yes. Before, I didn’t want to waste energy on it. I just wanted him to sign it, but since he’s not cooperating, the only thing I can do is sue.”
Mae spoke in a calm tone, that matter–of–fact tone as if she were not the subject of the indictment.
“Help me check if there is a problem. If there is none, we will go to court tomorrow.”
Jean had no intention of persuading Mae. “Okay, I’ll be your lawyer. Even if I can’t scrape a layer of skin off that dog, I’ll let you successfully divorce your marriage.”
Mae smiled at her words. “That ten billion dollars already bought the marriage, this time I don’t have any other demands. I just need a divorce.”
Jean pouted. “You’re too nice. This bastard has a few hundred billion dollars and you only wanted ten billion from him?”
“I’m too lazy to drag it out. The more we think about it, the longer it takes.”
Mae’s expression was indifferent, and she did not talk more about Mark’s interest. She was just waiting until the special medicine to treat the disease of little Jane came out, then she will take little Jane out of there.
She did not mention this to Jean. After all, it would still take a long time before the special medicine was produced.
In the Smith family.
Mark was called home by her mother, Mrs. Smith.
“Madam, Young Master is back.”
Mrs. Smith had been holding her breath for days because of what happened online. When she heard that her son was back, she immediately slapped her face and looked toward the door.
“Auntie, don’t blame Mark. He didn’t do anything wrong. I had nothing to do with him… in the first place.”
Because of what happened online, Jennifer’s face was haggard, but she couldn’t see half a bit of hostility. She was always gently persuading Mrs. Smith.
However, Mrs. Smith was unwilling to do this for her. “You, being bullied by that little bitch Mae like this and Mark is still helping that bitch. Why are you still excusing Mark?”
She looked at her with a look of hatred and pain. “You are too considerate and understanding. Mae, that little bitch dared to bully you. Don’t worry. Later Mark will come over. Auntie will call the shots

for you. I couldn’t believe he dared not listen to her mother’s words.”
Jennifer understood the meaning of Mrs. Rebecca’s words and her heart was secretly happy. On the surface, she was still hypocritically convincing Mrs. Smith. “Auntie, you will talk to Mark later, don’t be angry. I don’t want you and Mark to destroy your relationship because of me.”
Mrs. Smith patted Jennifer’s hand with pain and pity. “What a good child. Auntie will never let you suffer about this matter.”
After saying this, Mark happened to enter the house.
“Mom, what’s the rush to call me back?”
Mark asked in a flat tone.
It was as if this person was born cold–hearted. Even to his own mother, he did not show any
semblance of warmth.
“Can’t I ask you to come home?”
Mrs. Smith looked at him questioningly without humor. “Tell me, how long has it been since you’ve been home?”
Mark didn’t argue much. He just said, “I’ve been living elsewhere recently.”
Mrs. Smith was very angry that her aloof son couldn’t say more than ten words to her for a long time. Even every word he said made Mrs. Smith feel that this son of hers was only talking to her superficially.
Mrs. Smith was dumbfounded again, but she didn’t think of anything else while Jennifer’s face changed slightly next to her. Instinctively, when Mark said “elsewhere,” he meant Mae.
Could… he be living in their former marital home?
Ever since Mae left four years ago, Mark had moved out of Hartwell Courtyard, as if it was tainted with Mae’s scent, making him so disgusted that he didn’t want to stay there.
Such a thought made her happy for a while, and she even fantasized that when she became Mrs. Smith, she would let Mark sell that house.
She didn’t want to live in the marital home where Mae had lived.
But she did not expect this time, Mae’s sudden return, as if everything had changed.
What she thought was a sure victory suddenly became an illusion, and this knowledge made her more and more anxious. The uneasiness and sense of crisis in her heart became more and more
intense
No, it couldn’t be.
These four years, she had put in so much effort, how could she let Mae just snatch it away?
Mrs. Rebecca knew that Mark would only ignore her by saying more, so she just cut to the chase.
“You know about what happened online, right?”
Mark sniffed and looked at his mother, her face unwavering. “What is it?”
“Mark.”
Not waiting for Mrs. Smith to open her mouth, Jennifer snatched a step ahead of her and spoke. Her

face had a weary look revealing a few moments of faint annoyance. “It’s the thing I told you before. The people on the internet are cursing me….”
She pursed her lips as she said this, looking exceptionally pitiful and even innocent.
After Jennifer reminded her, Mark frowned slightly “Didn’t I leave that to the PR department?”
The seemingly flat tone contained a few points of faint impatience, causing Jennifer’s eyes to
redden.
Seeing her expression, Mrs. Smith was immediately disturbed and said to Mark:
“Is this how you’re dealing with it? Now people on the Internet are calling Jennifer a mistress. Those idiots don’t know how hard they were bullying her. Can’t you see any of this?”
The more Mrs. Smith talked, the angrier she got while thinking of the vicious words those people used when they cursed at Jennifer. Mrs. Smith was furious.
She didn’t dare curse her own son, so she could only curse that shameless little bitch Mae.
Mark really didn’t know how people were discussing this on the Internet, but he felt that the meaning he explained to the PR department was clear enough. After that, he didn’t bother with those irrelevant things anymore.
“One after another, they are calling Jennifer a mistress. If this continues, how do you expect her to behave? After all, it’s all because of Mae, that little bitch…”
Mrs. Smith cursed suddenly, unconsciously cursing with the words: “little bitch.” Looking at her son in front of him, she tried to swallow them back.
“If she hadn’t come back this time to stir up trouble, Jennifer would not have been scrutinized.”
From the beginning to the end, she did not mention that she was the first one to create this mess, and also the first to provoke Mae. She only thought of letting her son step forward to support Jennifer and had no intention of mentioning other things.
Hearing this, Mark’s eyebrows furrowed slightly, revealing a hint of impatience between his eyebrows. “Why do you want to bring irrelevant people between me and Mae?”
