Chapter 57. Is this man heartless?
She subconsciously moved towards the shopping mall, but was pulled tightly by Mark, “Mae! Be reasonable!”
The man’s eyes were firm, and his deep voice was so strong that it could somehow calm her down.
Obviously, this man had never had a heart. He might be crueler and more vicious than the robbers inside, but at this moment, Mae was comforted by his firm eyes.
“Trust me, your daughter will be fine.”
Mark continued to speak, using the gentlest tone he could think of to comfort her in a low voice, “Your friends are with the child, they will protect her.”
Mae slowly raised her eyes and looked at the man’s face in front of her. Just like in her memory, his eyes were always cold, but at this moment there was something in his cold eyes that she could not understand, it was complicated.
He can be extremely calm at times as if nothing in this world could easily shake him.
Does he really have no heart?
But how could a man who never hesitated to jump into the icy waters to save Jennifer have no heart?
But if he had the heart, how could he maintain such calmness and composure when he knew that the woman he loved and the child in her womb was in danger? Was he so confident?

Mark was right on one point. If she rushed in now, it would only be self–defeating, and would probably put the hostages in even more danger.
Mark did not understand Mae’s words for a while, but the irony in her bloodshot eyes showed that she was not complimenting him.

No one knew how long it took, but there was a commotion at the entrance and exit of the mall and the special forces rushed in one after another. Soon, many hostages that were taken began to fun out of the shopping mall crying, each of them was pale and in shock.
Then, several robbers wearing black hoods were led out of the shopping mall by the special forces and sent to the police car.
Mae could no longer control herself and run towards the mall. At this moment, Jennifer and her team also exited the mall.
Jennifer was surrounded by a group of people. She seemed to have been frightened a lot. Her entire face was covered in tears. With that pear blossom and rain on her face, it made people feel even more pitiful.
When she looked up, she seemed to have seen Mark, and her tearful eyes suddenly lit up. “Mark!”
She shouted happily and walked quickly in Mark’s direction.
The next second, a person suddenly rushed out of the crowd. Holding a black handgun, he aimed at the crowd and fired a shot.
“Let’s all die with me.”
As soon as his words fell, there was a burst of gunshots, causing the crowd to run away screaming.
The gun was aimed exactly in Mae’s direction. Marks’s heart suddenly froze. It was as if a needle had been pierced into his heart.
“Mae.”
He quickly rushed up. In the next second, a heavy body slammed into his embrace. “Mark, I’m so afraid.”
These words rang out along with the gunshot. Mae subconsciously turned around and saw that Jennifer was being tightly protected by Mark.
At this moment, the blood on Mark’s face completely faded, and that handsome face that was always calm, composed, and cold was covered with panic and bewilderment as if he had lost some precious treasure.
There was a fatal pain in her shoulder blade. The impact of the bullet made her stagger for a while, and she wobbled back a few steps.
The pain was so excruciating that she had no time to care about other things. She reached out and covered her shoulder blade that had been pierced by the bullet. The thick blood instantly stained her light–colored coat, and her hands were already stained with blood.
“Mommy!”
Little Jane’s voice came from the entrance of the mall. Mae suddenly cheered up and looked in the direction of the voice. She saw Jean and Hannah running towards her with Little Jane.
The three of them were not injured. Mae’s heart was relieved. The tense nerves disappeared in an instant. The sharp pain from the wound instantly made every cell in her body ache, trembling.
She was most afraid of pain. This shot was enough to hurt her out of her wits.
No one would have thought that there was still a robber that slipped through the police outside the mall. This unexpected commotion scared the people outside the mall making them wildly run around.
Fortunately, the special forces were extremely fast. After the first shot was fired, before the second shot could be fired, the robber was shot dead by the sniper on the spot.
Seeing the bullet pierce through Mae, Mark felt like his heart was about to run out of his mouth.
For the first time in his life, he felt a sense of helplessness as his entire body was dominated by fear. His hands were shaking violently.
He did not react until he felt a suffocating pain in his heart. He pushed Jennifer away from his embrace and rushed towards Mae’s direction.
“Mommy, *sob~~ Mommy, are you going to die? Little Jane does not want Mommy to die, *sob~~”
Little Jane was frightened by Mae’s blood and cried. Mae gritted her teeth and endured the pain as she comforted the little girl, “Mommy is fine, Little Jane should not be afraid, Mommy is really fine~~*
Chapter 57 is this man heartless?
Because of the severe pain, when Mae spoke, her entire body was shaking.
Cold sweat wet her hair and blood stained her coat, leaving her with a helpless and broken beauty.
“Go to the hospital first.”
Mark’s voice suddenly sounded in her ear, and immediately after, she saw Mark kneeling beside her and hugging her.
She tried to struggle to get out of his hold, but the pain made her lose the strength to struggle. She could only curl up in Mark’s arms and resisted silently–
“Let go of me.”
Her voice was soft and weak. There was a lot of blood from her wound. Fortunately, an ambulance from the whole city had been sent. Mark ignored her resistance and carried her into the ambulance.
Her consciousness gradually began to blur, the oxygen mask covered her face, and she finally lost
consciousness.
She could only faintly hear someone calling her “Mae“. She could not clearly hear it. She did not know who was calling her. The voice was very far away and very close.
When Mae woke up, the strong smell of medicine came through her nose, making her vague consciousness become clearer.
She opened her eyes and saw the snow–white ceiling. There was an IV bottle hanging by the side. Her face was still covered with an oxygen mask. The excruciating pain had eased a lot.
She suddenly remembered something, and suddenly rolled over from the bed and sat up. “Little
Jane…Ah!”
