Chapter 25
Her fair hand covered her eyes, and she quivered with laughter while listening to the piercing sadness of the dark night. Before long, tears trickled through the gaps between her fingers.
Mark did not get through to his phone. The phone was turned off.
He stared at Mae’s phone, unable to calm down for a long time.
Is that Coach Langley her current husband?
He couldn’t help but think of the phone call Mae received at the party. She smiled and spoke softly. Her gentle eyes were completely different from the strange and alienated look in her eyes when she looked at him.
Was it this Coach Langley who at that moment phoned her that made her use the word “darling” in her talk?
Mark squinted his eyes coldly.
At the same time, this kind of knowledge made Mark’s restless heart feel somewhat inexplicable.
Mae, you are really good.
“Return to Jewel Garden.”
His low voice was filled with inexplicable irritability.
The driver was surprised. “Yes sir.”
Mark the owner of Jewel Garden had not been back for four years. Why did he suddenly want to go there tonight?
Although the driver was puzzled, he did not ask any further questions. He turned the car around and
drove towards Jewel Garden.
Jewel Garden.
“Sir, are you finally back?”
The servant in charge of the villa was surprised to see Mark.
He hadn’t come back there since his wife departed without saying goodbye four years ago.
However, Mark did not dismiss her. He paid her salary on time every month. She still dutifully guarded the place and cleaned it every day.
She had assumed Mr. Mark would never return, but tonight appeared out of nowhere.
The servant was puzzled but did not show it.
Mark only made a grunt in response and then walked upstairs.
Pushing open the bedroom door, he found pitch darkness which took him a while to adjust to.
His hand that was on the doorknob inadvertently increased in strength. He stood at the door for a long time before he pushed open the door and walked in.
In the bedroom he entered, nothing had changed except that Mae’s aura had already faded away without a trace.
The woman who had kept watch for him in their bedroom every night and rushed at him when he >pened the door had long since disappeared.
Back then, he did not expect that Mae would leave immediately without even telling him anything.
He saw the wedding ring she had left on the bedside table, as well as all the jewellery and designer >ags he had given her, which she did not take away.
He thought that she was so angry and that she would return sooner or later.
He patiently waited for a day, two days, a week, a month…
The calm that he had worn was gradually replaced by an unfamiliar panic.
He began to tell himself that as long as she obediently returned, he would not pursue anything and pretend that nothing had happened, but one month, ten months, one year, two years…
She hadn’t come back, and he didn’t find her.
His eyes fell on the soft, lazy sofa in front of the floor–to–ceiling window. Mae used to like to lie there and wait for him to come back.
He involuntarily walked towards the lazy sofa, his tall body sinking into the sofa.
He did not turn on the lights. Only the quiet moonlight outside the window shone in through the veil, hiding his dull face in the darkness.
It seemed that only in this way could he recall everything between him and Mae more clearly.
He didn’t care how long it took.
dong dong dong.
