Chapter 129: All He Had, She Didn’t Need Any More
She just nodded. “Well, I know who it is.”
“You do?”
Mark looked at Mae’s cold and calm answer and his eyes unconsciously darkened a few more points.
This kind of loss of wanting to “ask for praise” but being ignored was much stronger at the moment.
“It was Peter Grey, right?”
Mae pursed her lips and smiled, forcibly removing Mark’s hand from her wrist. “I won’t keep Mr. Smith for dinner. You can go ahead.”
Having said that, the door closed behind her, determinedly and without a pause.
Mark stood outside the door without moving, his eyes staring forlornly at the door in front of him. After a few moments, he burst out laughing bitterly.
All his connections and maneuvers that he thought were superior were worthless in front of Mae.
She did not need everything he gave her. As long as she was willing, she could solve everything by herself, or the person who helped her solve it for her and it was no longer his turn.
At that moment, Mark truly realized that Mae not only did not want him as a man anymore, but she did not need anything from him.
Even if he was just a tool man, she did not need him.
Christmas Eve.
Households were decorated with lights and the carefully prepared Christmas Eve dinners were
served one after another.
Although the main Smith family was small, there were quite a few servants because they stayed
behind for Christmas Eve.
The Christmas Eve dinner for dozens of people was lively.
“Grandpa, are you looking for me?”
Mark pushed open the door to the study where Old Mr. Smith was waiting for him, wearing a pair of old–fashioned glasses.
“I wanted to ask you a small question.”
Old Mr. Smith greeted him and sat down, asking casually, “Have you and Mae been in contact lately?”
His expression jolted, and his cold, handsome eyebrows furrowed steeply. “Why are you asking that?”
“You answer me first.”
Old Mr. Smith said.
“Something like that.”
Old Mr. Smith looked at his obviously worried expression and laughed:
“What? Looking at you like that… do you regret the divorce?”
At these words, Mark’s expression stiffened slightly, but he still denied it with a stiff upper lip. “No.”
It was such a simple word, but he did not have the slightest bit of confidence. He did not even have the confidence to emphasize it again.
Old Mr. Smith laughed a little and did not interrupt him.
“Today, her grandfather, the elder of the Lee family, came to see me.”
Mark’s eyebrows wrinkled deeper compared to the severity of a moment ago. This time he added a few more points of severity. “Why did he come to find you?”
“It is said that Lee’s benefits have been very poor in the past one or two years, coupled with the fact that many projects could not be carried out during this period. Lee Corporation is now in the midst of a crisis of impending bankruptcy. The old man of the Lee family hopes that I can help them for the sake of the relationship between the two in–laws.”
As he said this, he gave a slight nod and looked at his grandson, who was always dull and cold in nature, and said, “The Lee family members don’t know that you two are divorced?
Mark replied somewhat cheerfully, “Maybe.”
He had only let Smith’s official blog deny that he and Mae had divorced some time ago, so he thought that the Lee family must have seen that statement as well. While not many people knew about the fact that he and Mae had divorced privately.
Seeing that his grandson clearly had no intention of talking about it, Old Mr. Smith did not pursue the matter further.
“I don’t care about their affairs anymore. Let them come to you directly if they have anything more to say. Whether you help them or not, you can decide on your own, and Grandpa won’t interfere.”
“I know, Grandpa.”
Mark wrinkled his forehead, Mae’s shadow flashing in his mind again, and the bottom of his eyes couldn’t help but darken.
“All right. Let’s go down and eat.”
“Okay.”
Mark got up to help the old man and they left the study.
In the living room came Rebecca’s cheerful voice, “Jennifer, come on. Be careful walking. Sit down first. Dinner will be served soon.”
As Mark helped the old man down, he saw Jennifer sitting on the sofa in the living room in her festive attire. Rebecca was accompanying her, the two of them chatting happily.
“Why are you here?”
Mark’s face suddenly darkened, and his face, which was originally free of unnecessary expressions, suddenly became cloudy at that moment.
Jennifer’s heart trembled when she heard the voice, and Mrs. Smith’s pleasant expression froze with it.
They both raised their eyes to see Mark helping the old man to the stairs, his stern gaze coming
straight at them and finally landing on Jennifer’s face.
“Who told you to leave the hospital?”
“I…”
Jennifer was a little scared, and she looked at Rebecca, her eyes carrying a few moments of pleading for help.
Rebecca hadn’t expected Mark’s reaction to be so great either. For a moment her heart was a little
worried.
She had originally decided to make up her mind first. She didn’t believe that her son would be able to
hurt him as his mother.
Besides, it is Christmas Eve. There were two old people inside. People already came. Could he still
drive them out?
But even so, when she saw her son’s face, Rebecca’s heart also felt some panic.
“I asked the driver to bring Jennifer over.”
Rebecca stood up and said, “This Christmas Eve, I cannot bear to let Jennifer stay alone in the hospital. I have asked the doctor and she now can come out to walk. You really should not take Mae’s words as a’holy decree.”
Although she said this, Rebecca didn’t dare look Mark directly in the eye.
Jennifer, on the other hand, sat nervously on the sofa. When Rebecca picked her up to come to the Smith family for Christmas Eve, she was so happy that she personally went to the mall and picked out this set of clothes that showed her skin color and covered her pregnant belly. Even dressed up and spent the whole afternoon doing makeup before coming to see Mark.
She wanted to make a perfect impression when she saw the Smith family to see the Smith family and the two old elders.
She came over with anticipation and apprehension, and now that she saw Mark’s face full of disgust and anger, she couldn’t help but feel a little scared in her heart.
“Mark, I haven’t had a full Christmas since my parents died. I really envy you for being able to have a family reunion. If you don’t like me being here, I’ll leave now.”
She lowered her eyes, pitiful and forlorn. Her hand was on the sofa as she prepared to get up but was pushed down by Rebecca.
“Mark, how can you be so heartless? Even though you…”
Mark wasn’t interested in listening to Rebecca at all, taking his cell phone and calling his driver over. “Come here, send Jennifer back to the hospital.”
Jennifer’s face suddenly turned white, she thought that she had just made this move to retreat was enough to make Mark’s heart soften enough to allow her to stay and eat Christmas Eve dinner with him, and Auntie Han even said that she would let her stay at the Smith family’s house for Christmas Eve to spend the evening with thern.
All the way here, she fantasized about sitting with Mark for dinner, watching the party, and chatting and setting off fireworks together.
Even if he didn’t want to see her, he wouldn’t embarrass her on a day like this, but she didn’t expect

him to let the driver send her back without saying a word after she arrived.
