When he was immersed in Celeste’s praises, he suddenly realized he had fallen into her trap.
She just wanted a free laborer.
He worked an entire afternoon just to save a few hundred bucks of assembly fee. At the time, he couldn’t comprehend it and even resented her for wasting his time.
But now, looking back, all he remembers was Celeste circling around him like a squirrel while he was assembling, wiping his sweat, asking if he was tired, helping him remove splinters from his fingers….
Her every act of frugality showed her love for life.
The sense of accomplishment of assembling the flower shelf far outweighed the few hundred dollars she saved.
If Celeste knew that Liam thought so highly of her frugality, she would probably be surprised.
Her habit of being frugal had been entirely influenced by Trisha, and after her divorce, her expenses had increased, so she had become even more cautious in this regard.
“Which one looks better, this one or this one?” Celeste asked Liam, holding up two skirts.
Liam took a glance. They were both collared, patterned, and the only difference was just the color. One was dark, the other light.
Liam decided, “The light one.”
Celeste thought Liam had a good eye. She said, “I also think the light one looks better, but it’s twice as expensive as the dark one, and they’re made of the same material.”
Then buy the dark one.”
Celeste paused, “So I’m only suited for cheap clothes?”
Liam glanced at his girlfriend and said leisurely. “You look good in anything. The value of the clothes is not in them, but in who wears them.”
Celeste laughed and asked, “Did Owen teach you these sweet nothings? Did you pay him tuition?”
Liam replied seriously. “It’s included in the bonus I gave him.”
She tossed him her bag. “Wait for me, I’ll try on a size.”
Celeste asked a female store clerk for a size. The clerk looked at her and asked, “Are you sure you want to buy this?”
Celeste replied, “I need to try it on to see if it fits and decide whether to buy it.”
The clerk said, “If you’re not sure about buying, I won’t bother getting it from the warehouse. As you can see, the store is busy, I have other customers to attend to”
Celeste was angry.
She hadn’t encountered such a clerk in a long time.
“Where’s your store manager? I want to ask if only those who are sure to buy can try on clothes?”
The store manager came over quickly, apologised several times, and then scolded the clerk, “If a customer wants to try it on, you go get it. Isn’t that your job?”
The clerk was defiant, “Look at how she’s dressed. Does she look like she can afford it? If she tries it on and doesn’t buy it, I have to put it back. Isn’t that a waste of time?”
The manager got angry, “Do you still want your job?”
Only then did the clerk reluctantly bring the clothes.
When Celeste received the clothes, the clerk warned her again, “Please be careful, these clothes are expensive. If you dirty them, you must compensate.” Celeste glanced at her, laughed, and then pointed to the most conspicuous skirts in the store, “Please get me my size for those skirts, I want to try them on too.”
The female clerk frowned, “Are you deliberately causing trouble?”
The manager gently nudged her, “Stop talking and go get them!”
She reluctantly went back to the storage room with a disgruntled expression.
Liam returned from a phone call to see Celeste trying on clothes in the fitting room.
She’s tall, has long legs, and a good frame, looking great in every piece. Each one looked exceptionally beautiful.
Every time Celeste threw on a piece of clothing, she gave herself a once–over in the mirror. But she didn’t make any comments or utter a word.
