In a group setting, people weren’t exactly fond of this kind of deliberate show–off
If you did well, you might just steal the show, but if you failed, you might drag everyone down with you.
Therefore, when Sydney spoke up, some people began to look at Celeste with less friendly eyes.
Celeste understood this, but at the moment, she could only stick to her plan
After all, no one cared about why her costume was different, they only cared about the final performance.
Hearing Sydney’s words, Javier also asked, “Celeste, why are you dressed like this? Where’s your team uniform?”
Instead of answering his question, Celeste said, “Director, I’ve been thinking about the character Nannie these past few days. I remember in the script that she comes from a privileged background, she’s never known hardship, she’s aloof and arrogant, so much so that she can’t accept the fact that she lost to the highly talented Kathie.”
Javier loved discussing characters with his actors. He nodded as Celeste spoke, “Yes, Nannie is aloof, but she’s also very hardworking. She didn’t choose an easy life just because she was privileged. What she can’t accept is that her efforts lost to talent, and Kathie’s talent is why she could never surpass Kathie”
Javier paused, “Do you have other thoughts?”
Celeste shook her head, “I just have some thoughts about this character. I was thinking that Nannie, being such an arrogant person, is a bit self–centered. Despite her cold demeanor, deep down, she craves attention.”
At this, Naomi laughed, “If you want to add your own ideas to the storyline, just say so. Why bother talking about character creation? Is it even written in the script?”
“Quiet!” Javier frowned and stopped her. Turning to Celeste he said, “Celeste, tell us more about your thoughts.”
Naomi looked at Celeste with annoyance.
Ignoring her, Celeste continued, “A self–centered person like her would want to attract attention in any situation. For example, during training, she might deliberately dress differently to stand out and get everyone’s attention. On one hand, it reinforces her character, on the other hand, it reflects her status within the team… like being an outsider”
Javier’s eyes lit up. He thought for a few seconds and nodded, “You make a lot of sense. Nannie, being arrogant and self–centered, would likely want to stand out during training. It’s just something she’d do.”
He looked at Celeste’s vintage red dance costume.
She was aloof and arrogant while she was surrounded by the group of actresses in their pink and white attire. The character from the script came alive before their eyes.
“Let’s do a test shoot.”
Sydney’s gaze deepened.
She said, “Director Javier, I suggest we try two approaches and see which one works better.”
Celeste paused and gave her a nonchalant look.
Sydney smiled and said, “Only the pursuit of perfection is the best.”
