“No need,” Celeste said without even lifting her head. “I’ve already handed the case to Mr. Fletcher. Who in their right mind changes lawyers halfway? What would people think if I changed my lawyer? They might think I don’t trust his professional capability, so I want a change. I can’t say such things.”
Liam said, “I can talk to him; you don’t have to.”
“Is it about you saying it or me?” Celeste said, a bit impatiently, “I’ve already paid some money; do I have to get it back?”
“What’s the problem with getting it back?” Liam frowned. “It’s not like we’re short of his money, right?”
“It’s not about the money, but about losing face,” Celeste finished, giving him a glare. “Besides, it’s my business; mind your own!”
Liam was about to say something when Celeste cut him off: “One more word, and take your shirt and go!”
Liam closed his mouth.
After a while, Liam spoke again: “I’ve told a renowned obstetrician about your condition. He’s coming to J City next month for a lecture, and he said he could make a face–to–face diagnosis then.”
Celeste’s fingers clenched tightly.
A few minutes later, Liam was kicked out of the apartment topless, followed by his shirt.
“Dr. Ledford,” Trisha said, resting her head on her hand, looking tipsy, “What’s your ideal type?”
Jace, holding his drink, smiled at her and said, “I had some ideas before. But I think it’s pointless now. When you meet someone you truly like, those standards don’t matter anymore. The person you like is your ideal type.”
“Well said!” Trisha giggled. “My ideal type used to be Leonardo DiCaprio, but after meeting you, he seems just so–so.”
Jace chuckled lightly.
Although this girl was a bit silly, she was quite interesting.
“Do you have a boyfriend?”
Jace asked.
Trisha shook her head and took a sip of her drink before saying, “I’ve been single for 25 years. Well, actually, a neighbor kid once fooled me. He said he would marry me when we grew up. But he disappeared before we even graduated from kindergarten; pretty sad, huh?”
Jace laughed, saying, “You can’t take a kid’s words seriously.”
Trisha, a bit tipsy, whispered, “Dr. Ledford, when is this lump on my chest going to go away?”
“Three to six months, maybe. But it varies. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle should speed up the recovery.”
Trisha mumbled, “Really? I always feel like the lump has gotten bigger.”
“That’s unlikely. Benign lumps usually don’t grow. If you’re worried, I can check it for you at the hospital tomorrow.”
Trisha frowned. “Can’t you check it now? Can’t you just feel it?”
Just as Jace started to wonder whether this girl was truly drunk or pretending, she started unbuttoning her shirt.
Nicolas walked in just as this was happening.
He quickly covered Trisha up and asked, “How drunk are you?”
Jace said, “She just kept drinking; I couldn’t stop her.”
He stood up and said, “Where’s her place? I’ll take her home.”
Nicolas didn’t look up, put his jacket on Trisha, and helped her up. “No need. You can go. I’ll take her.”
Trisha, who was about to fall asleep, suddenly perked up and said, “I don’t want you; I want Dr. Ledford!”
Nicolas frowned. “Does he even know where you live?”
