Liam frowned. “You sure do talk yourself up, don’t you?”
Nicolas replied, “What’s wrong with me? I’m just gaining experience for my future wife, learning what different types of girls want. Only by understanding their needs can I make them happy and improve my success rate. You’re just inexperienced. You had so many girls liking you before; as long as you had dated a couple of them, you wouldn’t be this clueless in front of Celeste.”
Liam wasn’t interested in this theory at all: “You’re full of experience, yet none of your relationships ended up lasting.”
That hit Nicolas where it hurt.
During relationships, he did like the other party, but that was about it; he couldn’t go any further.
Whether it was him or the girls he dated, their so–called care was mostly materialistic.
Celeste was materialistic too; she had no qualms about spending Liam’s money, but she genuinely cared for Liam.
Take the lunch for example. Liam once bragged about it on Facebook, and Nicolas said he didn’t care, but secretly, he was envious.
In this world, what money can buy wasn’t precibus; what it can’t buy was treasure.
Both he and Liam were picky, always socializing and getting sick of outside food, so they appreciated home–cooked meals. Whether it tasted good or not was secondary; the important thing was that someone at home cared about whether you ate well.
Rarely could any of his ex–girlfriends cook, and even if they could, they would tell him seriously that they would never step into the kitchen. Once they started, wouldn’t they have to revolve around the kitchen after marriage? Who could stand that?
He wondered could one meal define a person?
In general, they didn’t care; whether it was him or those ex–girlfriends, they always put themselves first.
Celeste couldn’t cook either, but she cared about Liam’s appetite and was willing to learn for him.
This had made Nicolas envious for a long time.
So when Celeste stopped bringing lunch for Liam, he felt a bit schadenfreude.
“Why bring me into this? Anyway, if you want to win Celeste back, you have to listen to me.” After saying this, he paused and added, “I need to call Mason; he has seen a lot and can give you some advice.”
Frowning, Liam said, “No need to call him.”
Surprised, Nicolas asked, “What happened? Did you guys fight?”
Liam remained silent, his lips pressed into a thin line.
Nicolas was very surprised.
Mason and Liam’s relationship was much better than his and Liam’s.
They were childhood friends who had grown up together, while he only met Liam in his teens.
The Francis family’s status in J City was far less than that of Liam and Mason’s families.

Nicolas‘ parents were both divorcees; he was the youngest child in the family, a late–life child with several elder siblings.
With so many children in the family, the parents had limited energy to take care of each child. When he was born, his parents were busy with their careers and had no time to take care of him. So he was sent to his grandparents‘ house at a very young age.
