He stared at the test report for a while, picked up his phone, and made another call.
Before long, someone on the other end picked up.
“Daniel, have you got your results over there?”
A female voice came from the other end of the phone: “Just got out of the meeting room; I’m going to ask now; it should be out.”
The woman paused and asked, “Did you father a love child or something?”
Steven said, “Quit yapping and go check it out. Send it to me as soon as you get it.”
“Got it.”
He hung up the phone, and about ten minutes later, the other side sent over the test results.
Looking again, Steven’s brow furrowed deeper.
The same two samples from two different hospitals yield two different results:–
He was a bit puzzled and made another call: “Daniel, is this result accurate?”
“Of course it’s accurate; we specialize in this kind of identification; if we made a mistake, we’d all be out of a job.”
The sample that Daniel had was personally delivered by him; only they knew about it, so the chances of a mistake were very slim. So, what about the one Nathan sent over?
Was it a mistake on the hospital’s part, or did someone tamper with it?
Is he supposed to be glad that he was prudent enough to go to two different hospitals, just in case?
Steven’s expression grew serious, and he said in deep voice, “Daniel, send the sample to another hospital for me.”
“What? Don’t trust me?”
Steven said in a deep voice, “This matter is very important; I must make sure there are no mistakes. Send it personally; don’t let anyone else help, and send the report directly to me once it’s done.”
Hearing Steven’s tone, the other party quickly took it seriously. “Alright, I’ll switch to a different place.”
“Can the results be out in a day?”
“Steve, you think this is some TV drama where you can get the results as soon as you hand it over? It needs to be purified again; at its fastest, it’ll take two or three days. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure it’s expedited.”
“Okay, I’ll leave this matter to you.”
Actually, between these two reports, which one is real and which one is fake? Steven already had an idea.
But being the cautious person he was, doing it again would give him more peace of mind.
After hanging up the phone, Steven’s face was tight. He was just about to call Nathan in to ask, but then he thought better of it. Let’s see how things unfold. If someone did tamper with the results, there surely wouldn’t be just this one move.
With a serious face, he put the identification book away and into the drawer.
Zack gave Celeste half a day off today.
She had nothing to do in the afternoon, just as the broker invited her to sign the contract, so she packed up and left.
For the house in Redwood Ridge Estates, the broker talked her down to 6.2 million, but the other party required a 50% down payment, which was 3 million.
3 million nearly emptied out a large portion of her savings; it was indeed a bit painful, but luckily the house was fully furnished; she just needed some furniture, and she could move in right away.
So Celeste didn’t haggle any further; she very directly agreed to sign the contract.
After gathering all the necessary documents, she went to the appointment.
But after all the contracts were signed and she was ready to file for the record, the Housing Management Committee told her that she didn’t qualify for home ownership. Because the demand for housing in this city is very high, they limit each person to only one property.
Celeste was puzzled and asked the staff, “You must be mistaken; I don’t have any property under my name.”
“The system can’t be wrong,” the staff said. “It shows that you have a villa in Golden Peninsula and a 400–square–meter residence in Grandview Heights; according to the relevant regulations, you no longer qualify for home ownership in J City.”
Celeste was very confused.
Golden Peninsula was a famous villa area in J City, where she and Liam used to live in Pinecrest Manor; could that be the villa they’re talking about?
What’s going on?
And what about Grandview Heights?
How come she had no idea?
Celeste said in a deep voice, “Can you check for me? When were these two properties filed for?”
After some operation, the staff told her, “For the villa in Golden Peninsula, the information was changed in March of the year before; Grandview Heights was filed in September of last year.”
The seller was a bit annoyed when he heard this.
