Steven paused for a moment and replied, “These roses have been growing for decades, and their roots have extended deep into the ground. It won’t be easy to remove them completely. Let’s not make a big fuss about it.”
“Alright, I’ll let my parents know.”
“Okay, go ahead.”
After hanging up the phone, Steven flipped through a few more pages of documents and then put them aside.
The roses in the yard were planted by him and his mother.
After so many years, the flowers bloomed and withered, but unfortunately, she couldn’t see them anymore.
When Liam returned to the hospital room, David was already resting.
Celeste was leaning back in a chair, half–closed eyes, her face somewhat tired.
As soon as he entered, he startled her.
She looked up at him, her eyes cold.
“Let’s go out,” Liam said to her.
Celeste got up, grabbed her coat, and followed Liam out.
Neither of them spoke along the way, and it wasn’t until they got in the car that Liam asked, “Where were you last night?”
“With Mr. Garcia, didn’t you hear?”
Liam pursed his lips, “Do you know how powerful the police surveillance system is now?”
Celeste looked up, her expression neither happy nor sad, “How powerful?”
Liam’s face darkened, “As long as your face is captured by the surveillance, they can track your whereabouts.”
“That powerful? Then why are there still so many unsolved cases?”
Liam’s forehead twitched, “Do you think I’m joking with you?”
“No,” Celeste said, “It’s a good thing that the surveillance system is so advanced. The sooner the murderer is caught, the sooner I can clear my
name,”
“Are you innocent?”
Celeste paused, glanced at the phone Liam was holding, and suddenly laughed, “Trying to get something out of me?”
Liam didn’t say anything.
Celeste’s eyes turned cold, leaned close to his ear, and said slowly, “Liam, do you remember what I told you at the charity dinner?”
Liam froze.
Some memories began to surface in his mind.
She said, Liam, this is the last time I’ll let Kaylee off. I’ve let her off for her past actions because she was young, but if she disrespects me again, I won’t show any mercy. You can protect her, but if it comes down to it, I’ll just fight to the death. After all, I’m just a nobody, I need to stand up for myself.
She kept her word.
Liam turned to look at her.
Celeste, however, withdrew, fixing her hair on her shoulders.
“I’m just as upset as you guys about what happened to Kaylee,” she looked at Liam, “I really am.”
But she wasn’t too upset to slap her a few more times.
She wasn’t afraid of Liam recording her, what could her words prove?
She just wanted to tell Liar that if the Reed family couldn’t give her justice, she’d take it herself.
She thought Liam would get mad.
She knew too well how much they loved Kaylee, and after she beat their precious girl like this, how could Liam let it go?
But Liam didn’t say anything. He was silent for a long time before saying, “Let’s go home, Grandpa David wants some soup.”
Celeste was taken aback.
Her throat felt choked, but in the end, she didn’t say anything.
As for the news of Kaylee being beaten, it’s unknown if the Reed family intentionally covered it up, but the outside world didn’t widely spread the
news.

After careful consideration, the Reed family decided to keep the incident of Kaylee’s kidnapping and assault under wraps. They believed that allowing the news to spread would only lead to further complications and potential escalation of the situation. They wanted to handle the matter discreetly and ensure Kaylee’s safety without unnecessary public attention.
The police investigation also didn’t make any breakthroughs.
