This morning, Kaylee was discovered by a cleaner lying unconscious at the side of the road, her mouth stained with blood.
Someone called the police, and a group of people helped take her to the hospital. They found her phone and ID in her belongings and contacted Skyler.
Skyler rushed to the hospital and immediately went pale and weak at the knees when she saw her.
Kaylee’s cheeks were swollen to at least twice their normal size, and her mouth was stuffed with stones wrapped in cloth. Her mouth couldn’t open as wide as before because of the swelling, and she couldn’t even remove the stones herself. So when they found her, her mouth was still packed.
The doctor used surgical scissors to cut the cloth in her mouth and slowly removed the stones, one by one. That’s when they could see the extent of her injuries.
Her mouth was adorned with numerous small wounds, which, while not posing a life–threatening situation or causing damage to her teeth, were nonetheless distressing to behold.
The mouth, unlike the skin, is a mucous membrane that constantly secretes saliva, making its wounds heal slower than other parts of the body. With a mouthful of injuries like this, it would be at least ten days to two weeks before she could talk again, and even eating would be extremely difficult.
After all, food can’t enter the esophagus without passing through the mouth, and anything that touched those wounds would cause extreme pain.
The doctor had seen many injuries in his career, from broken arms to broken legs, and nothing surprised him. But this kind of attack, aimed specifically at someone’s mouth, was a first for him.
It was an injury that managed to be both humiliating and torturous.
Skyler, watching Kaylee in so much pain that she could only make whimpering noises, couldn’t help but shed tears.

Skyler saw Kaylee nod her head. She wiped away her tears and, with red eyes, said, “Come in.”
Kaylee couldn’t speak, so she could only respond to the police’s questions by typing answers on her phone.
The police asked her in detail about everything that happened last night.
Kaylee only remembered going to the bathroom, only to have someone cover her mouth and nose. When she woke up, both her eyes and mouth were sealed, and she was beaten mercilessly.
As she recalled last night’s ordeal, Kaylee trembled with fear, desperately trying to speak through her whimpers.
The police wanted to ask more details about what happened. But whenever they brought up last night’s events, Kaylee would turn pale with terror and start shaking uncontrollably. With her swollen face, it was difficult to look at.
So they changed the topic, “Aside from beating you, did they do anything else?”
Skyler’s face darkened immediately, “What kind of question are you asking? We asked you to catch the criminals, and you’re wasting time here? If we wait any longer, they’ll get away!”
