So when Celeste got admitted to T University, Caitlyn threw a huge feast at home, inviting professional actors to perform and treating everyone to a banquet. Even though some people gossiped, it did not take away the grandeur of the occasion.
As for Latonia, she started spreading the news as soon as her son’s admission letter arrived, preparing to celebrate him getting into a good school.
She made it a big deal, yet when everyone arrived with gifts, they discovered she had only set up a few shabby tables outside her house, serving just a few simple dishes.
Accepting all those gifts and offering just a little food in return, it was so disrespectful!
And the key point was, Latonia’s family was not poor at all. Next to Shawn, they were among the better–off families.
So with such a stingy display towards their guests, who would like her?
That’s why when she announced her son’s admission to C University, no one wanted to engage with her. She was obviously trying to take advantage of everyone again.
Seeing no one following up on her remarks, Latonia didn’t feel embarrassed at all. In her mind, these relatives were all jealous of her.
Her gaze wandered around and finally landed on the wife of the Campbell family’s fourth son, “How did your child do in the exams this year?”
The woman didn’t want to deal with Latonia and replied plainly, “It’s the his own business, so I didn’t ask.”
Latonia said, “How can it be just the child’s own business? Your son didn’t do well last year, but shouldn’t he have made some progress? Or did he do worse than last year and not dare to tell you?”
Her sharp and sarcastic words made everyone even more annoyed with her. It’s fine to praise your own child, but not looking down on others‘ children. The woman was angered by Latonia and, seeing Celeste, suddenly had an idea.
“My child has his own plans.” After a pause, she continued, “Latonia, when Celeste took the college entrance exam, her mom threw a big celebration at home and even hired professional actors to perform. This time, your son got into such a good school, you’d better make it even grander than that, right? You can’t just give us that food nobody wants to eat again, can you?”
This made Latonia feel a bit embarrassed, but she said with a straight face, “What are you talking about? What do you mean by giving you food you don’t like? I call it being low–key. Look at how grand Celeste’s mom made it. What happened in the end? Her daughter got married as soon as she graduated, and now they’re the laughingstock back home.”
Celeste immediately tensed up.
Liam casually stroked the back of her hand and said leisurely, “Why are we the laughingstock? I don’t understand what you’re saying, Latonia. Is my wife marrying me that funny?”
Latonia froze. She was so focused on getting back at others, she didn’t watch her own back, and ended up spilling her true thoughts.
She appeared to be looking down on Celeste, but deep down inside, she was dying of jealousy.
If Celeste were here alone, her sarcasm wouldn’t matter. With Shawn around, she wouldn’t do anything even if she’s mad.
But Liam was a different story. He wasn’t part of the Campbell family, and people used to look down on them when they got married. So why would they give them any respect this time?
