Nicolas looked up at Liam, who was frowning and typing. Out of curiosity, Nicolas leaned closer, but Liam put away his phone and coldly asked, “Is there anything else?”
That meant he was asking him to leave.
Nicolas had no shame about being caught snooping. He moved closer and played with the Newton’s cradle on the desk, “Simon texted me today, said we should gather later on. He specifically asked me to invite Celeste, saying she helped Michaela a lot and wants to thank her.”
Liam pursed his lips and reluctantly picked up his phone under Nicolas’ stare.
Celeste was now at the old house playing with Sugar.
She had been coming to the old house for several days in a row.
Every time, she would bring some of Sienna’s favorite food for Mr. Robinson to pass along. She stayed in the stable with Sugar while memorizing her lines.
Afraid of angering Sienna, she never initiated contact but had lunch at the old mansion.
Today was no different.
When Janetta called to tell her about the huge success of Mastermind of Law, she was lying in the grass, sunbathing with Sugar.
She didn’t expect the show’s popularity, thinking it was just another experiment in her career.
But the result was fantastic.
Regardless, it was a happy occasion.
After posting on Twitter, she started braiding Sugar’s hair.
When Liam called, she was helping Sugar choose hairpins, arguing whether to use the green or red one.
Sugar was smart, not letting anyone force it to do things it didn’t like. Celeste eventually surrendered, putting in the green hairpin.
With the hairpin in place, Sugar ran around the fence twice, its head held high, feeling triumphant.
Celeste found it funny and speechless. The sense of beauty was too weird. The green hairpin on top of its head looked bad, right?
She glanced down at the caller ID, hit the answer button, and then hung up before the other person even had a chance to speak.
Liam, listening to the busy tone on his phone, was dumbfounded, seemingly unable to believe it.
This ain’t even a fight? She was not even answering her calls, and Nicolas felt too awkward to blame Liam.
“Maybe she accidentally pressed the hang-up button? Call again.”
So Liam made the second call, and then the same thing happened, hang up after answering.
After trying four or five times, Liam’s face had turned really bad.
Nicolas coughed lightly. “Let me call”
A few seconds after Nicolas called, the call was connected.
Celeste’s soft voice came through, “Hello?”
Nicolas glanced at Liam, who was frowning, coughed and said, “Sis-in-law, we’re treating you to dinner tonight, are you coming?”
Celeste joked, “Why would you be so willing to invite someone?”
Nicolas was known for being stingy and usually freeloading on other people’s dinners. If he said he was inviting someone, it must not be so simple.
